Usually the people who tell me that working from home is wonderful have never worked from home. They spend most of their career working from an office and hate it. In fact,I love being able to work from home and make my own hours.I truly appreciate being able to drop what I’m doing to attend kids or go shopping, but there’s a side to it we don’t often talk about, the hard side.No one wants to believe people like me,working from home, have anything to complain about.Really,I’ m not going to complain, but I do want to share a few things about telecommuting(远程办公)that few home -based people want to tell you, because working from home doesn’t look so wonderful. One of the reasons I love my job is the flexibility(灵活性).I know that I can volunteer for school projects, meet friends for lunch and work out for an hour as long as I get my work done. But did you know telecommuters have to make up the time if they wish to fill their days with fun items? So while my husband and kids are watching a movie,I’m working until midnight.Besides, when you work from home, you’re held to your phone and Skype(网络电话)in case someone wants to talk to you during business hours. So it’s not so easy to be flexible! 24.We learn from the passage that the writer ________. A.get work done,or you’ll have no freedom B.east or west, home working is the best C.freedom should always come before work D.all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy 27.Who is the passage mainly intended for? A.Job hunters. B.Office workers. C.Researchers. D.Telecommuters. C Do you know how it is when you see someone yawn and you start yawning too? Or how hard it is to be among people laughing and not laugh yourself? Well, apparently it's because we have mirror neurons (神经元)in our brains. Put simply, the existence of mirror neurons suggests that every time we see someone else do something, our brains imitate (模仿)it, whether or not we actually perform the same action. This explains a great deal about how we learn to smile, talk, walk, dance or play sports. But the idea goes further: mirror neurons not only appear to explain physical actions, they also tell us that there is a biological basis for the way we understand other people. Mirror neurons can undoubtedly be found all over our brains, but especially in the areas which relate to our ability to use languages, and to understand how other people feel. Researchers have found that mirror neurons relate strongly to language. A group of researchers discovered that if they gave people sentences to listen to (for example: "The hand took hold of the ball"), the same mirror neurons were triggered as when the action was actually performed (in this example, actually taking hold of a ball). Any problems with mirror neurons may well result in problems with behavior. Much research suggests that people with social and behavioral problems have mirror neurons which are not fully functioning. However, it is not yet known exactly how these discoveries might help find treatments for social disorders. Research into mirror neurons seems to provide us with ever more information concerning how humans behave and interact(互动).Indeed, it may turn out to be the equivalent (相等物)for neuroscience of what Einstein's theory of relativity was for physics. And the next time you feel the urge to cough in the cinema when someone else does—well, perhaps you'll understand why. 28. Mirror neurons can explain ________. A. why we cry when we are hurt B. why we cough when we suffer from a cold C. why we smile when we see someone else smile D. why we yawn when we see someone else stay up late 29. The underlined word "triggered" in the third paragraph probably means “________”. A. set off B. cut off C. built up D. broken up 30. We can learn from the passage that mirror neurons ________. A. relate to human behavior and interaction B. control human physical actions and feelings C. result in bad behavior and social disorders D. determine our knowledge and language abilities 31. What is the passage mainly about? A. Ways to find mirror neurons. B. Problems of mirror neurons. C. Existence of mirror neurons. D. Functions of mirror neurons. D Suppose you become a leader in an organization. It’s very likely that you’ll want to have volunteers to help with the organization’s activities. To do so, it should help to understand why people undertake volunteer work and what keeps their interest in the work. Let’s begin with the question of why people volunteer. Researchers have identified several factors that motivate people to get involved. For example, people volunteer to express personal values related to unselfishness, to expand their range of experiences, and to strengthen social relationships. If volunteer positions do not meet these needs, people may not wish to participate. To select volunteers, you may need to understand the motivations of the people you wish to attract. People also volunteer because they are required to do so. To increase levels of community service, some schools have launched compulsory volunteer programs. Unfortunately, these programs can shift people’s wish of participation from an internal factor (e.g., “I volunteer because it’s important to me”) to an external factor (e.g., “I volunteer because I’m required to do so”). When that happens, people become less likely to volunteer in the future. People must be sensitive to this possibility when they make volunteer activities a must. Once people begin to volunteer, what leads them to remain in their positions over time? To answer this question, researchers have conducted follow-up studies in which they track volunteers over time. For instance, one study followed 238 volunteers in Florida over a year. One of the most important factors that influenced their satisfaction as volunteers was the amount of suffering they experienced in their volunteer positions. Although this result may not surprise you, it leads to important practical advice. The researchers note that attention should be given to “training methods that would prepare volunteers for troublesome situations or provide them with strategies for coping with the problem they do experience”. Another study of 302 volunteers at hospitals in Chicago focused on individual differences in the degree to which people view “volunteer” as an important social role. It was assumed that those people for whom the role of volunteer was most part of their personal identity would also be most likely to continue volunteer work. Participants indicated the degree to which the social role mattered by responding to statements such as “Volunteering in Hospital is an important part of who I am.” Consistent with the researchers’ expectations, they found a positive correlation (正相关) between the strength of role identity and the length of time people continued to volunteer. These results, once again, lead to concrete advice: “Once an individual begins volunteering, continued efforts might focus on developing a volunteer role identity.... Items like T-shirts that allow volunteers to be recognized publicly for their contributions can help strengthen role identity”. 32. People volunteer mainly out of ______ . A. academic requirements B. social expectations C. financial rewards D. internal needs 33. What can we learn from the Florida study ? A. Follow-up studies should last for one year. B. Volunteers should get mentally prepared. C. Strategy training is a must in research. D. Volunteers are provided with concrete advice. 34. What is most likely to motivate volunteers to continue their work ? A. Individual differences in role identity. B. Publicly identifiable volunteer T-shirts. C. Role identity as a volunteer. D. Practical advice from researchers. 35. What is the best title of the passage A. How to Get People to Volunteer B. How to Study Volunteer Behaviors C. How to Keep Volunteers’ Interest D. How to Organize Volunteer Activities 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Students hope to make the most of their study time and get better grades at school. Here are some suggestions to help you develop a learning strategy(策略)to achieve your goals. 1. Set study goals. Lots of research suggests goal setting can help people successfully affect positive changes in their lives. 36 Just be sure to ask yourself some key questions: Am I setting realistic goals? Will I need to work harder to achieve those goals? 2. Create a study plan. No one is more aware of the importance of time than the poor student who hasn’t studied a thing until the night before an exam. 37 The key to breaking the situation is to think ahead and make an effective study plan. 3. 38 Nobody can keep the best level of attention without giving oneself some time to recover from the work. This can take the form of a ten-minute walk, a trip to the gym, having a chat with a friend or simply fixing yourself a hot drink. Timely resting can help improve your focus. 4. Be positive. 39 If you keep saying you won’t devote yourself to learning and can’t do it, attempting to study is only likely to become more difficult. Instead, focusing your mind on positive outcomes and believing you can use your own individual strengths to achieve them will make you feel less anxious and more open to new study tips. 1. Mark small challenges. Faced with very long and difficult subjects, you can set small challenges to keep your spirits high. 40 According to scientific analysis, the more motivated(有积极性的)and excited we are, the better our brain performs. A. By then, of course, it’s too late. B. Find a healthy balance. C. So never doubt the ability of yourself to achieve things. D. Take regular study breaks. E. Try different things and see what works best for you. F. Focus on the day-to-day and find motivations while you study. G. Your attitude has big effect on your learning. We are a unique family, two white parents adopting a brown son and a black daughter both with special needs. Taking everything into consideration, besides Chinese, math and English, I prefer to learn physics, chemistry and biology, as they are truly my strengths. Since my childhood, I have had a deep love for these three subjects, among which I have always been performing best in physics. In addition, I intend to be a doctor after graduation, so it’s necessary for me to have a good command of chemistry and biology to major in medicine at college. What do you think of my choice and do you have some other advice? Looking forward to you response! Yours, Li Hua 录音原文: Text 1 W: What time is your train leaving? M: It leaves at ten. I can’t hear myself think. M: What? W: The radio. M: Oh! Sorry. Text 6 W: Hi Michael! I heard you just came back from a holiday. M: Yes. I stayed for a week in China, and five days in India. It’s the London Tea Trade Centre. As you can see, it is on the north bank of the river Thames. It is the center of an important industry in the everyday lives of the British people. Tea is the British national drink Every man, woman, and child over ten years of age has on average over four cups a day. Or some 1,500 cups annually. About thirty percent of the world’s exports of tea makes its way to London. And Britain is by far the largest importer of tea in the world. Now, in the second picture, you can see how tea is tasted in the Tea Trade Center before it is sold. Here, different types of tea are tasted by skilled tea tasters, before they’re sold at each week’s tea sale. It’s amazing to see them at work. Over a hundred kind of tea are laid out in a line on lone tables. The tasters generally taste teas with milk, since that is how the majority of British people drink their tea. The tasters move down the line with surprising speed, tasting from a spoon and deciding what is a fair price for each tea. After that, they… Yours, Li Hua查看更多
