My father was an alcoholic, which resulted in an absolute mess in our family including physical abuse in my parents1 marriage. I was five years old when my parents divorced. My mother worked day and night to support the family. This left me with a lot of time by myself. I never received any encouragement to try out for sports or after-school activities. Because of this, I never really thought that I could do it. I thought that without a parent’s company, support and encouragement it was hard for a teen to set up structure for themselves. Had I experienced the love from both of my parents, I would have been able to learn how to make real friends and how to build confidence, teamwork and good decision-making skills. But that was not my reality. Reality was that I fell in with the wrong crowd. I made some bad friends. As I met more people who partied, took drugs and alcohol, I began to follow them. Before I knew it, all I cared about was how I was going to get high. My mom was angry and let me know how much I was letting her down but I didn’t know how to stop and I couldn’t picture my life without the drugs. I protected my using drugs at any cost. I was angry at her because it seemed as if I was not important to her. The one thing about my mom was that she did not give up. I not only needed treatment to fight my addiction, but needed help to remove what I had been carrying around for years. Professionals were able to help us heal together. They were able to help my mom learn how to push me when I needed drugs, and communicate with an angry teenage. We didn’t take the route that most mothers and sons take in life, but we are proof that addiction doesn’t have to tear a family apart forever. 28. What can be learned about the author’s parents? A. He was discouraged to try any sport. D. He couldn’t get any support from others. 30. What can we infer from Paragraph 3? A. He succeeded in getting rid of drug. B. He showed trust in the professionals. C. He often communicated with his mother. D. He didn’t care about letting her mother down. 31. What does the text mainly talk about? A. Drugs for a teen’s growth. B. The importance of love for a teen. C. A trip inside the mind of an addicted teen. D. The influence of parents’ divorce on a teen. D England hasn’t hosted the World Cup since 1966, but it’s never yet been held in China. The two countries are now the most likely rivals to hold the 2030 tournament. The news might come as a bit of a surprise to those who follow World Cup rules faithfully. Until now, it’s not been possible for the tournament to be held in the same continent without it being held on another continent for at least another two World Cups in between. Technically, that meant that China couldn’t have hosted in 2030 due to the 2022 event in Qatar. However, according to a mass of reports, that rule looks certain to be updated, so that each continent would only have to wait for one tournament before hosting again. There are lots of reasons why China now looks the most likely host country for 2030. Firstly, football continues to go from strength to strength in China, and over the last few months, the Chinese Super League is attracting a growing number of international superstars to its team. President Xi Jinping is an enthusiastic soccer supporter, and he is said to be prepared to invest in the sport, and in the development of young players, with the aim of China being a potential World Cup winning nation by 2050, China also already has a huge number of international standard football facilities (设备), with an extraordinary track record of the building of new stadiums and infrastructure (基础设备) for events. However, England will also be sure to enter a strong bid to host the 2030 tournament. They haven’t hosted since 1966, and it’s exactly the type of event that a post-Brexit (退欧后的) nation will be keep to run. 32. What does the underlined word “rivals” in the first paragraph probably mean? A. Competitors. B. Applicants. C. Supporters. D. Participants. 33. What might people following World Cup rules faithfully think of the news about the two countries? A. It’s relaxing. B. It’s surprising. C. It’s inspiring D. It’s satisfying. 34. Which is NOT the reason why China most probably host 2030 tournament? A. The president is in favor of football B. China is making progress in playing football. C. China has international standard football facilities. D. More and more countries encourage China to be the host. 35. What can be known from the text? A. China has made great contributions to the tournament. B. England gradually loses interest in the tournament. C. A strong contest between two countries is to follow. D. The two countries will host the tournament together. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Basic first aid allows you to quickly determine a person’s physical condition and the correct course of treatment.
