My target was to raise £2000, a big challenge. But ‎ it was brilliant because collecting not only motivates you to train hard, but also means you’re not just running for yourself. You are running for something much greater.‎ ‎ You’d be surprised at how many people donate (捐赠) money around the time of the marathon. People were so crazy that I hardly noticed how quickly things happened and how quickly the following months flew by. It was my first marathon. I did my research, made a plan and put it up on my wall and crossed an item off every time I went for a run. That’s the key. The training plan lasted 16 weeks. I started with five-mile runs and got myself up to 8 – 10 miles.‎ ‎ Your training pays off on the day of the event. Go over Tower Bridge with thousands of people cheering you on, and run down roads that you never get the opportunity to go to — it’s amazing. It’s like going to a festival. You’re surrounded by people all the way and there’s a real feel of good spirits. Everyone is there because they want to be there. People think you’re mad to do a marathon. But it’s a leap of faith. The truth is that if you never take the risk, you’ll never know how much you’ll push yourself and what you can achieve.‎ ‎ I haven’t made a decision whether to take part in next year’s London Marathon. But that’s fine. I know I’ve already achieved something rather special that I can’t stop talking about.‎ ‎24. What is the author’s purpose in joining in the marathon?‎ ‎ A. To earn a reputation. B. To collect money for charity.‎ ‎ C. To raise awareness of physical exercise. D. To challenge a 40km run.‎ ‎25. What is the most important in the preparation according to the author?‎ ‎ A. The craziness about the marathon. B. The gradual change in the running distance.‎ ‎ C. The proper training plan. D. The donation around the marathon.‎ ‎26. What did the author think of the marathon?‎ ‎ A. It’s inspiring. B. It’s troublesome. C. It’s disordered. D. It’s tired.‎ ‎27. What can we learn from the last paragraph?‎ ‎ A. The author will take part in other marathons all around the world.‎ ‎ B. The author thinks one marathon is enough for a person to take pride of.‎ ‎ C. The author has decided to participate in the 2019 London Marathon.‎ ‎ D. The author regards the marathon experience as one of his proudest.‎ C ‎ At sunset every day, loud sounds can be heard coming from the sky in a community just east of Los Angeles (East L.A.). The noises are from parrots. The colorful birds have become part of everyday life there. “The parrots leave their waste everywhere,” said Havolynn Rose Owaleon. But she and many other community members have gotten used to the birds. Owaleon said, “They are not quiet at all, but you know, it’s something that you listen for, because if I don’t hear them on a daily basis, then I know ‎ something is really wrong.”‎ ‎ Red-crowned parrots are now part of the ecosystem in Southern California. Their ancestors came from Tamaulipas, Mexico, where the parrots are now endangered. The birds were often killed in their native land. But in the United States, they were sold to people as pets. Some of the parrots escaped or were freed by their owners.‎ ‎ They have since reproduced and grown in number in an area with large numbers of people. “They are good at making a habitat (栖息地) for themselves in major cities, and this is what happened in Pasadena and East L.A. So these are birds that live pretty much exclusively (专有地) off of trees that are also not native to our area,” said Ursula Heise. She teaches at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Department of English and at the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability.‎ ‎ Since arriving in Southern California, the red-crowned parrots have become such permanent fixtures (固定物) that they are on the California Bird Records Committee's list of birds in the state.‎ ‎ “They’ve been naturalized as California citizens,” said Heise. She noted that her staff members have put up major buildings and added different kinds of plants in neighborhoods across Southern California.‎ ‎28. What do we know about the parrots in the community in East L.A.?‎ ‎ A. They are in danger of dying out. B. They join in the daily life there.‎ ‎ C. They play an active part in the life of community. D. They are disturbing community members.‎ ‎29. What caused the red-crowned parrots to leave their homeland?‎ ‎ A. Being kept as pets. B. Lack of enough food.‎ ‎ C. Being hunted. D. Being exposed to bad weather.‎ ‎30. Why can red-crowned parrots live in big cities?‎ ‎ A. They have unusual ability to settle themselves. B. They enjoy the air of big cities.‎ ‎ C. The trees in big cities attract them. D. There are enough food for them to feed on.‎ ‎31. What can be a suitable title for the text?‎ ‎ A. Keeping parrots as pets. B. Endangered parrots.‎ ‎ C. Parrots living off trees. D. Flying immigrants.‎ D ‎ Jan. 3, United Press International (UPI) — China’s Chang’e-4 probe (探测器) has landed on the moon’s far side — the first in history. The probe, which was launched on December 8th, touched down late Wednesday night.‎ ‎ “Congratulations to China’s Chang’e-4 team for what appears to be a successful landing on the far side of the moon,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine wrote on Twitter. “This is a first for human beings and an impressive achievement!”‎ ‎ In the coming months, the probe will conduct scientific observations across the ‎ less-understood side of the moon. Scientists hope the observations will offer new understanding of the satellite’s makeup, as well as its formation and evolution.‎ ‎ One of the challenges of exploring the far side of the moon is communication. Chang’e-4 can’t communicate directly with the scientists back on Earth. But in May of 2018, China launched Queqiao, a satellite that will help relay (转接) the probe’s communication. The satellite is located in a stable orbit (轨道) around Earth that keeps both the scientists back on Earth and Chang’e-4 within its sight lines.‎ ‎ China launched more rockets in 2018 than the other global space agencies (机构), and some analysts see their latest achievement as another symbol of their growing power and influence — an influence that spreads into space.‎ ‎ The record-breaking probe is outfitted with a variety of tools such as cameras and a radar system. The probe’s tools will allow Chang’e-4 to measure the mineral composition of the moon’s far side.‎ ‎ “The successful landing is not just a scientific achievement, and it is also about China’s rise as a superpower,” Malcolm Davis, an analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, told The Guardian. “There’s a lot of enthusiasm for the space program in China. There’s a lot of nationalism (民族自豪感) in China; they see China’s role in space as a key part of their rise.”‎ ‎32. How long did it take China’s Chang’e-4 probe to fly and land on the moon?‎ ‎ A. About two weeks. B. More than a month. C. Four weeks or so. D. Two months or so.‎ ‎33. How did China deal with the communication problem when exploring the moon?‎ ‎ A. By communicating directly with the scientists back on Earth.‎ ‎ B. By sending some powerful communication equipment to Chang’e-4.‎ ‎ C. By placing a satellite in a stable orbit around Earth to relay communication.‎ ‎ D. By launching a communication satellite called Queqiao to go around the moon.‎ ‎34. What does the underlined word “outfitted” in Paragraph 6 mean?‎ ‎ A. Equipped. B. Covered. C. Connected. D. Matched.‎ ‎35. What can be concluded from Malcolm Davis’ words in the last paragraph?‎ ‎ A. China is not satisfied with the scientific achievement.‎ ‎ B. China will send a manned spacecraft to explore the moon in future.‎ ‎ C. China’s role in space has gone beyond all the other countries in the world.‎ ‎ D. Chinese show great excitement and interest in space program.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎ Cheerleading (啦啦队) has a rich history in the United States. __36__ Even professional sports teams have cheerleaders, so those who love to cheer can continue the sport into adulthood.‎ ‎ Organized cheering started at Princeton University in 1884, when the crowd created a cheer to inspire its team.
