The popular saying has inspired many people to read or go sightseeing. Traveling, just like reading, is a refreshing journey from the busy world. Books, brain food, can keep you company on your travel. 1. On the Road, 1957, by Jack Kerouac The book is a globally popular spiritual guide book about youth. Lotus,2006, by Annbaby This novel set in Tibet, tells three people’s stories, each with their unique characteristics. It reveals modern people’s emotions and inner life, their confusion about love, and exploration of Buddhism. The book is a good partner to bring you to the sacred land Tibet. 21. Which book is about the exploration of life value through a journey? A. On the Road. B. Life is Elsewhere. C. The Stories of the Sahara. D. Lotus. 22. Whose book is suitable to accompany your trip to Germany? A. Jack Kerouac’s. B. Milan Kundera’s. C. Sanmao’s. D. Annbaby’s. 23. What can we learn from the text? A. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To advertise four travel guidebooks. B. To introduce four novels about traveling. C. To recommend four books linked to destinations. D. To arouse readers’ interest in reading books. B I was in the Sants Cruz Mountains not long ago, speaking and singing at awomen’s conference. We were focusing on the theme of loving others in practical ways through our gifts, and something in particular happened during one of the sessions(会议) will remain imprinted in memory. A young Syrian woman (Lilith) was invited to the conference at the last minute, and everyone seemed surprised and delighted that she’d actually come. Just a few days earlier, Lilith had fled her country and found refuge with one of the women attending the conference. Lilith had witnessed horrors no one of her young age should ever see. Despite the further danger it presented, she’d decided to leave her home and her family to find safety here in America. Knowing some of her story, and seeing her sitting through the sessions at the retreat(畏缩不前)—head, covered in a scarf, bowed toward the floor—broke my heart. Lilith’s story touched all of us, including Pam, an attendee, who was a quilt maker. Pam had just finished a beautiful quilt, and had brought it with her. She, along with a few of the leaders, decided to give it to Lilith as a symbol of their comfort and love. Lilith had left her own mother behind in her homeland and I can’t imagine how frightened and alone she felt. But in her absence, I could see there were lots of “mamas” in this community of women, who were more than ready to love on her. During our last session, Lilith was called forward and prayed over, hugged, and wrapped up in that beautiful quilt. I thought of the many hours Pam undoubtedly spent working on it, and the terrible events that led Lilith to this moment — surrounded by the beauty and love the quilt embodied (包括). I wept. When they told her it was for her, she wept. A quilt wrapped around a ravaged young woman is just one practical, loving act. 25. What is the purpose of the women’s conference? A. To get together to dance and sing. B. To win equal rights for women. C. To help others in a practical way. D. To exchange gifts with each other. 26. What is the meaning of the underlined word? A. a place of interest B. a place of danger C. a place of conference D. a place of shelter 27. Why did Lilith go to America? A. To attend the women’s conference. B. To find her family. C. To find safety. D. To find a better job. 28. From this passage, we know that the writer is____________. A. sympathetic B. enthusiastic C. intelligent D. talented C You know the feeling that you have left your phone at home and feel anxious, as if you have lost your connection to the world. “Nomophobia” (无手机恐惧症) affects teenagers and adults alike. You can even do an online test to see if you have it. Last week, researchers from Hong Kong warned that nomophobia is infecting everyone. Their study found that people who use their phones to store, share and access personal memories suffer most. When users were asked to describe how they felt about their phones, words such as “hurt” (neck pain was often reported) and “alone” predicted higher levels of nomophobia. “The findings of our study suggest that users regard smartphones as their extended selves and get attached to the devices,” said Dr. Kim Ki Joon. “People experience feelings of anxiety and unpleasantness when separated from their phones.” Meanwhile, an American study shows that smartphone separation can lead to an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. So can being without your phone really give you separation anxiety? Professor Mark Griffiths, psychologist and director of the International Gaming Research Unit at Nottingham Trent University, says it is what is on the phone that counts — the social networking that creates Fomo (fear of missing out). “We are talking about an Internet-connected device that allows people to deal with lots of aspects of their lives,” says Griffiths. “You would have to surgically remove a phone from a teenager because their whole life is rooted in this device.” Griffiths thinks attachment theory, where we develop emotional dependency on the phone because it holds details of our lives, is a small part of nomophobia. For “screenagers”, it is Fomo that creates the most separation anxiety. If they can’t see what’s happening on Snapchat or Instagram, they become panic-stricken about not knowing what’s going on socially. “But they adapt very quickly if you take them on holiday and there’s no Internet,” says Griffiths. 29. Which of the following may Dr. Kim Ki Joon agree with? A. We waste too much time on phones. B. Phones have become part of some users. C. Addiction to phones makes memories suffer. D. Phones and blood pressure are closely linked. 30. According to Giffiths, we get nomophobia because _______. A. we are accustomed to having a phone on us B. we worry we may miss out what our friends are doing C. we need our phones to help us store information D. we fear without phones we will run into a lot of trouble 31. Where can you probably find the above passage? A. In a research report. B. In a fashion brochure. C. In a science textbook. D. In a popular science magazine. D After we meet people, it is up to us to make them our friends. Let us stop a moment and consider what really makes a friend. The major qualities, like faithfulness, devotion, friendly company, flash through our minds. But it is the large number of very small particular qualities that make up one’s whole character, such as cheerfulness, friendliness, and punctuality (守时).After all, “ to make a friend, be a friend” is not such a big and difficult order. There are particular favorable qualities, which attract others to us, and some elements which do have an effect on people in fundamental psychology(基础心理学) or not. If you are in the presence of a shy person, talking and asking casual (随意的) questions maybring him out of his shell. Think of what would be most acceptable to the other person, for you to talk, or to listen. Either way, the goal is to make yourself pleasant. Always remember to listen, but listen intelligently. To have anyone “ hang on our words” is themost unnoticeably clever way in the world to please somebody. For a few extremely happy seconds we are the center of attraction, but when it is our turn to be audience, let us remember how we felt as the actor, and let’s be genuinely(真正地) interested in what the other fellow is saying. Other people will like us, if we like them. If you want friends, keep your mind and heart open to friendship. Be alive to the other person’s world. 32. Of the qualities in a friend, which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage? A. Unselfishness. B. Devotion. C. Punctuality. D. Faithfulness. 33.The words “ bring him out of his shell” in this passage most probably means ____. A. make him become active B. make him feel more nervous C. help him understand the question better D. help him listen intelligently 34. The words “ Be alive to” in the last sentence of this passage most probably means________. A. keep with B. be ignorant of C. deal with D. be aware of 35.This passage is mainly about_________________. A. the ways of talking to a shy person B. some favorable qualities to be a psychologist C. how to make yourself attractive to your listeners D. how to make a friend and be a friend 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Every day can be a fresh, new beginning — this is very important if you had a difficult day before.
