【英语】2019届二轮复习阅读理解专题记叙文类型模拟试题10篇训练之二十(16页word版)
2019届二轮复习阅读理解专题记叙文类型模拟试题10篇训练之二十 [一] It was a cold night in Washington,D.C., and I was heading back to the hotel when a man approached me. He asked me for some money so he could get something to eat. I'd read the signs: “Don't give money to beggars.” So I shook my head and kept walking. I wasn't prepared for a reply, but he said, “I really am homeless and I really am hungry! You can come with me and watch me eat!” But I kept on walking. The incident bothered me for the rest of the week. I had money in my pocket and it wouldn't have killed me to hand over a dollar or two even if he had been lying. On a freezing cold night, I still assumed the worst of a fellow human being. Flying back to Anchorage, I couldn't help thinking of him. I tried to seek excuses for my failure to help by assuming government agencies, churches and charities were there to feed him. Besides, you're not supposed to give money to beggars. Somewhere over Seattle, I started to write my weekly garden column for The Anchorage Daily News. Out of the blue, I came up with an idea. Bean's Cafe, the soup kitchen in Anchorage, feeds hundreds of hungry Alaskans every day. Why not try to get all my readers to plant one row in their gardens devoted to Bean's? Before long my idea took_off. People would fax me or call when they took something in. Those who only grew flowers donated them. Food for the spirit. And relief for my conscience. As more and more people started working with the Plant a Row concept, many companies gave free seeds to customers and displayed the logo, which also arose in national gardening publications. Row markers with the Plant a Row logo were distributed to gardeners to set apart their “Row for the Hungry”. It is unexpected that millions of Americans are threatened by hunger. If every gardener in America — and we're seventy million strong — plants one row for the hungry, we can lower the number of neighbors who don't have enough to eat. Maybe then I will stop feeling guilty about abandoning a hungry man I could have helped. 12.Why did the author turn down the beggar's request? Toward the end of our long drive home, even the kids were leaning forward in their seats urging my lead foot on. At that point in a road trip, even sixtyfive miles per hour feels slow. We have become numb to our speed and numb to the road signs flashing by. My family lives on the edge of Lancaster County. Only thirty miles from home,I hit the brakes, and we began to roll, slowly, behind a horsedrawn carriage. We began to open our eyes again. We saw familiar green hills and the farm with the best watermelons. I rolled down the windows, and we breathed again. Justcut hay and a barn full of dairy cattle. At five miles per hour, you remember what you forget at sixtyfive. You are thinking about a place, even when you are moving from place to place. I am a placemaker. A homemaker, too. I am a mother of a young kid at home, and also a writer and a gardener. But,for me,those roles are wrapped up with the one big thing I want to do with the rest of my life:I want to cultivate a place and share it with others. The place I make with my family is a redbrick farmhouse built in 1880.It has quite a few nineteenthcentury bedrooms and a few acres of land, and we love nothing more than to fill them with neighbors and friends. We grow vegetables and flowers, keep a baker’s dozen of egg—laying chickens, and, since we moved in three years ago,we have planted many, many trees. Living with my life’s purpose does not allow for much travel. I need to be here, feeding the chickens and watering the tomatoes. Any extra in the budget, and we spend it on trees. But I learned something at the end of our family road trip. Travel can help me in the task of caring for my own place. When I slow down and pay attention to the road between here and there, travel tells me the connections between my place and all the other places. 4.What does the author try to express in the first paragraph? B.Because she enjoyed the scenery along the road. C.Because she needed a break after the long drive. Being born to Mexican immigrants meant that my parents had to work very hard to provide for my family and I had to learn to struggle through school paperwork on my own, because my parents’ English was limited and they couldn’t always be there motivating us through the process. If I wanted to succeed academically,my perseverance, and strength would be tested. I never set out to start a non-profit, nor did I have a desire to turn my life upside down. All I asked for was a little "purpose" to my life. And you know what they say, be careful what you ask for... I visited a safe house for abused and abandoned children. My intention was to read with the children in the evening, once a week after my work day. I loved my marketing job and planned to continue advancing my career for many years to come. One night as I said goodbye to the children I watched them go into a nearby room to sleep. They slowly climbed onto couches and futons. Some were crying and the staff tried to comfort them and ease them onto a soft surface. There was no changing of their clothes, no bedtime stories, no hugs from moms or dads. I was puzzled. This was not the way bedtime was supposed to be for a child. I waited for the staff to finish with the children and asked them if they needed pajamas... could I bring some? The next week I brought 12 pairs of pajamas with me—one for each child I was told would be there. As the children came into the room to sit and read with me, I gave each one a pair of pajamas. One little girl wouldn't take pajamas from me. She stood perfectly still, looked up at me, and asked in a whisper, "What are these?" "They're pajamas," I said. "Where do I wear them?" I answered her, "To bed at night." She looked at me, puzzled. "What do you usually wear to bed?" I asked her. "My pants," she said quietly. My heart sank. It was at that moment I knew I had found my true purpose in life. I told everyone to give me new pajamas... for my birthday, anniversary... Christmas... and I gave them to the children. How incredible when my friends came with me! I knew what was happening; I was feeling a new swell in my heart... for these children who needed pajamas and a book for bedtime. 10. Host side Sanfrecce Hiroshima beat New Zealand's Auckland City 1-0 to earn a quarterfinal clash with African champions Al Ahly of Egypt, but the result will remain a footnote to FIFA's "revolution". Despite refusing calls for the introduction of GLT for many years, FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke stated that there was "no reason to be against this technology" on the eve of the match. The first referee to have access to the system in a competitive game was Djamel Haimoudi but the Algerian had no need to call upon GoalRef's magnetic field system in Yokohama. This is the first of two goal-line systems being trialed at the competition for the continental club champions, in which the title-holders of the host nation (J-League winners Sanfrecce Hiroshima on this occasion) also participate. Hiroshima, who won the Japanese championship for the first time last month to earn their place in football history, will also take part as the second system is used, with camera-based Hawk-Eye being used for Sunday's tie with the seven-time African champions. "This is a kind of revolution," Valcke told FIFA's website before the match. "It is the first time that this kind of technology is coming into football. We must ensure that when the ball goes into the goal, the referee must get the information that the ball has gone in. "The referee has the final decision. The technology won't change the speed, value or spirit of the game." It changed little as Hiroshima saw off Auckland City, thanks to a wonderful strike from Toshihiro Aoyama after 66 minutes, as the New Zealanders' impressive goalkeeper Tamati Williams was finally beaten. 1. What is the main idea of the passage? A. GLT began to be adopted in the world football match. B. FIFA's World Cup was held in Japan on Thursday. C. Sanfrecce Hiroshima defeated New Zealand's Auckland City 1-0. D. The match in Japan will be a revolution in football history. 2. What can we infer from FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke? A. Many teams forbid the GLT in their football matches for years. B. Adopting the GLT in the football matches is acceptable. C. No one should refuse the GLT in the football matches. D. All matches in the world should use the GLT since Thursday. 3. How many title-holders are mentioned in this passage? A. 6. B. 5. C. 4. D. 3. 4.
