A Have you ever dreamed of having a fashionable watch of great value? A small watchmaker in Switzerland in 1922 designed the first automatic watch to show the day, month, and date. Only seven of these splendid watches were ever made and these watches were almost lost to history. Today, it is so hard to get an original watch that some watch historians are even willing to offer $200, 000 for one. These watches attracted a lot of people for their splendid color, fashionable style, and new uses in the 1920s. The owners of the watches were admired and set apart from the crowd. Because the number of the original watches is very limited, owning such a watch will make you feel very special. Today, you are offered the same kind of watch with improvement. It has a 24-jewel mechanical movement, the kind desired by watch collectors. The watchmaker has made the movement of the watch much more modern with an automatic rotor so that the watch never needs to be wound by hand. The watch comes in a very beautiful case with a crocodile design on it. To get a watch in such a perfect design means to get a chance to know a piece of watch-making history and to wear such a watch will show your personal taste and social position. You can get the watch either in person or by mail at an affordable price. You will also receive good service from the watch seller. If you are not satisfied with the watch after you get it, you may simply return it within 30 days. Don’t miss the chance to realize your dream. 1. The original automatic watches are valuable because ________. A. the watches were made many years ago B. only a few watches of the kind were made C. only rich people can afford the watches D. the watches were made by a Swiss watchmaker 2. Watch collectors want to get the improved watch, especially for its________. A. new uses B. splendid color C. fashionable style D. mechanical movement 3. The passage is probably taken from a _______. A. magazine B. report C. text book D. science book B Unlike modern animal scientists, dinosaur scientists cannot sit on a hillside and use telescopes to watch dinosaurs in order to know how they lived and whether they were good parents. Instead, they have to search hard for information from dinosaurs’ fossils because dinosaurs died out millions of years ago. It’s very difficult for the scientists to reach an agreement because different results can be got from the same fossils. Many fossils of the same kind of dinosaurs have been dug out from one place. They might have formed when an entire group of dinosaurs got stuck all at once, or they might have learnt the result of dinosaurs getting stuck one after another over a course of a few centuries. Thus we can say that dinosaurs might have in the first case lived in big groups and in the second lived alone. Though there are two different results, dinosaur scientists now generally agree that at least some kinds of dinosaurs lived in big groups. “That’s pretty much settled at this point,” says Paul Sereno. A kind of dinosaurs called Sauropods left behind tracks in the western United States that appear to run north and south, suggesting that they even moved long distances together. As to whether dinosaurs cared for their young, dinosaur scientists have turned to the closest living relatives of dinosaurs — birds and crocodiles — for possible models. Birds give a lot of care to their young, while crocodiles just help their young to the water. The discovered fossils of dinosaurs sitting on their eggs and staying with their young suggest the parents were taking care of their babies, but we still cannot say that all dinosaurs did the same. There is still a long way to go before the above questions could be answered. Dinosaur scientists will have to find more proof to reach an agreement. 4. Dinosaurs scientists can get information directly by ________. A. examining modern animals B. studying dinosaur fossils C. watching dinosaurs D. using telescopes 5. What is pretty much settled according to Paul Sereno? A. Half of the dinosaurs lived alone. B. Most dinosaurs moved long distances. C. Many dinosaurs settled in the north. D. Some dinosaurs lived in big groups. 6. Dinosaur scientists can probably know whether dinosaurs were good parents by ______. A. watching many kinds of animals B. following the tracks left behind C. studying dinosaurs’ living relatives D. working on dug-out dinosaur eggs c Modern buildings are set up on a large scale in the city. Should they be allowed to be built next to older buildings in a historic area of a city? In order to answer this question, we must first examine whether people really want to preserve the historic feel of an area. All historical buildings are not attractive. However, there may be other reasons — for example, economic reasons — why they should be preserved. So, let us assume that historical buildings are both attractive and important to be the majority of people. What should we do then if a new building is needed? In my view, new architectural styles can exist perfectly well alongside an older style. Indeed, there are many examples in my hometown where modern designs have been placed very successfully next to old buildings. As long as the building in question is pleasing and does not dominate its surroundings too much, it often improves the attractiveness of the area. It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt the area they are in, but the same can be said of some old ones too. Yet people still speak against new buildings in historic areas. I think this is simply because people are naturally conservative(保守的)and do not like change. Although we have to respect people’s feelings as fellow users of the buildings, I believe that it is the duty of the architect and planner to move things forward. If we always reproduced what was there before, we would all still be living in caves. Thus, I would argue against copying previous architectural styles and choose something fresh and different, even though that might be the more risky choice. 7. What is the author’s view of historical buildings in Paragraph 1? A. Some of them are unattractive. B. Many of them are too old to preserve. C. They don’t offer the historic feel of an area. D. They are more pleasing than modern buildings. 8. Which of the following does the author mostly agree with? A. We should reproduce the same old buildings. A. Buildings shouldn’t fit in with their surroundings. B. Some old buildings have reduced the interest of the area they are in. C. No one knows why people are against new buildings. 9. The underlined words “move things forward” mean______. A. destroy old buildings B. put things in a different place C. respect people’s feelings D. choose new architectural style 10. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To explain why people dislike change B. To warn that we could end up living in caves C. To answer the questions people show great interest in D. To argue that modern buildings can be built in historic areas 第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Being a good listener can help you to see the world through the eyes of others. It enriches your understanding and expands your capacity for empathy(同情). ___11___ Good listening skills can provide you with a deeper level of understanding about someone’s situation, and helps to know what words are best to use or which words to avoid. If you want to know how to be a good listener, read on to get started! Place yourself in the other person's shoes. It's easy to get lost in yourself and to only consider the impact of the other person's “telling” on you. ____12____ And assume that if you had been in their shoes, you would have come to the same conclusion. By being a good listener this can also help you become better friends with the person by getting to know more about them. ____13____ Some people think that, when they’re listening, they should find a quick and easy solution to the person’s problem. Instead of this attitude, you should take the time to think of a “solution” when the person is speaking — and only if he or she is really looking for help in this way. If you start frantically thinking of all of the quick fixes for the person’s problems, then you won't really be listening. Sympathize. Show them that you care by nodding at appropriate times so they know that you are listening. Also says little things such as “Yeah” when the person is talking about something that they want you to agree on or “Wow” when the person talks about a tragedy or something bad done against them. ___14___ Say these words at the appropriate times and softly so that you don’t come off as overbearing and interrupting. Remember what you've been told. One important part of being a good listener is to actually absorb the information the person has told you. So, if the person is telling you about his problems with his best friend, Jake, and you’ve never met the guy before, you can at least remember his name so you can refer to him that way, making it seem like you’re better acquainted with the situation. If you don’t remember any names, details, or important events, then it won’t sound like you’re listening. ____15___ Another important part of being a good listener is that you go beyond just hearing the person out having a conversation, and never thinking about it again. If you really want to show that you care, then you should ask the person about the situation the next time you're alone together, or even shoot him or her a text or give a phone call to see how the situation is progressing. If it’s something serious like a job search, or a health complication, then it can be very nice to show that you care by checking in, even when you’re not being asked to. A. Saying these words shows them that you are not only listening but also paying attention. B. Don’t try to help immediately. C. Give the speaker your full attention. D. You must open out and look at the problems from the other person’s perspective. E. Repeat some things the speaker said and, at the same time, provide positive feedback as encouragement. F. Follow up. G. It also increases your contact with the outside world by helping you improve your communication skills. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分 45分) 第一节 (共 20小题;每小题 1.5分,满分 30 分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项 In 1999, Rebecca Constantino began doing a study at schools across Los Angeles. Yet plastic trash has now reached the remote regions of the Arctic and the Alps. A team of 37 (scientist) has discovered large quantities of microplastics(微塑料) — very small pieces of plastic waste — in the Arctic snow. While microplastics have been found in sea-water, drinking water, and even in animals over 38 past several years, this is the first study to show microplastics in snow, 39 indicates it is an airborne pollutant that must be paid attention to. The researchers state that microplastics in snow suggest that microplastics may be in the air that we 40 (breath). The color of the sky was changing, first light gray, then dark gray, and finally dark . The wind was blowing heavily, and the trees were shaking in the strong wind. It began to rain cats and dogs. Soon, the road was filled with puddles from the rain. In such a stormy afternoon, My mother took my five-year-old brother, Christopher, and me to a new big toy store she had read about in the newspaper. “So many toys,” the advertisement had shouted in full and flashy color, “that we had to get a huge warehouse(仓库) to fit them all!” Christopher and I couldn't have been more excited. We ran across the parking lot, through the cold and biting rain, as fast as our little legs could carry us. We left our mother outside to battle with the frustrating umbrella, which never worked when she wanted it to. “Christine! Take care of your young brother!” Mother shouted at the top of her voice. “Christine! I'm going to find the Lego section (乐高积木区)!There’s a new pirate ship(海盗船) I want, and I have four dollars! Maybe I can buy it!” Christopher exclaimed and ran off excitedly. I only half heard him. I took a right turn and, to my wide-eyed delight, found myself in the midst of the Barbie (芭比) World. I was studying a Barbie and doing some simple math in my head when suddenly an earthshaking clap of thunder roared from the storm outside. I jumped at the noise, dropping the doll to the floor. The lights flickered (闪烁) once and died, covering everything in a blanket of blackness. Thunder continued to shake the sky and lightning illuminated (照亮) the store for seconds, casting (投)frightening shadows on my mind. 注意:1.所续写的短文的词数应为150左右; 2.至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4.续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Para 1: “Oh no,” I thought, “Where’s Christopher?” ________________________________________________ ________________________________________________ Para 2: “Christine, I’m here.” ___________________________________________________________________ 高二六月份英语月考卷 参考答案 1-3 BDA 4-6 BDC 7-10ACDD 11-15GDBAF 16. Director of Nan Hu Community Committee 第二节 “Oh no,” I thought, “Where’s Christopher?” Scared, I was frozen to the spot, overcome with the need to see my brother to hug and make certain he was all right. My stomach twisted and turned inside. I ran up and down the aisles through the darkness, panic filling my small chest and making it difficult to breathe. I knocked into displays of candy and tripped over toys, all the while crazily calling my brother’s name. Anxious as I was, I could barely see his figure. Tears of frustration and fear trickled down my face, but I continued to run. “Christine, I’m here.” Excitement took my breath away — there in the dark Lego aisle I found Christopher. He was standing alone, perfectly still, clutching tightly to the pirate ship set. I began to cry out from relief, throwing my arms around him and hugged him tightly. He hugged me back, saying, “I knew if I waited here, Christine, you would be able to find me.” Then, I took his hand in mine and we went to find our mother, who must be desperately searching the store for us.查看更多
