The WHO finds that poor cooking, heating and lighting technologies are killing millions of people each year. Indoor air pollution results from the use of dangerous fuels and cook-stoves in the home. To help fight the problem, the WHO announced, new guidelines aimed at reducing household pollutants.‎ WHO officials say nearly three billion people are unable to use clean fuels and technologies for cooking, heating and lighting. And they say more than seven million people die from exposure to indoor or outdoor air pollution each year. Of that number, the WHO says about 4. 3 million people die from household air pollution ‎ given off by simple coal cook-stoves. WHO officials say indoor pollution leads to early deaths from stroke, heart and lung disease. The main victims are women and girls in developing countries, where they usually stay at home and do the household work.‎ Carlos Dora is Coordinator in the WHO’s Department of Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health. He says people should not use unprocessed coal and kerosene (煤油) fuel indoors. He says opening a window or door to let out the harmful air will not improve the situation. It will only pollute the outdoors.‎ Nigel Bruce is a professor of Public Health at the University of Liverpool. He says researchers are developing good cook-stoves and other equipment to burn fuels in a more efficient way.‎ WHO experts note some new, safe and low-cost technologies that could help are already available. In India, you can buy an induction (电磁) stove for about $ 8.00. And in Africa you can buy a solar lamp for less than $ 1. 00. But, this, the agency says, is just a start. How to protect women and girls ‎ C. Indoor pollution kills millions each year D. The importance of health in developing countries ‎ C Many facts suggest that children are overweight and the situation is getting worse, according to the doctors. I feel there are a number of reasons for this.‎ Some people blame the fact that we are surrounded by shops selling unhealthy, fatty foods, such as fried chicken and ice cream, at low prices. This has turned out a whole generation of grown-ups who seldom cook a meal for themselves. If there were fewer of these restaurants, then probably children would buy less take-away food.‎ There is another argument that blames parents for allowing their children to become overweight. I agree with this, because good eating habits begin early in life, long before children start to visit fast food shops. If children are given fried chicken and chocolate rather than healthy food, or are always allowed to choose what they eat, they will go for sweet and salty foods every time, and this will carry on throughout their lives.‎ There is a third reason for this situation. Children these days take very little exercise. They do not walk to school. When they get home, they sit in front of the television or their computers and play computer games. Not only is this an unhealthy pastime (消遣), it also gives them time to eat more unhealthy food. What they need is to go outside and play active games or sports.‎ The above are the main reasons for this problem, and therefore we have to encourage young people to be more active, as well as steering them away from fast food shops and bad eating habits.‎ ‎28.According to the text, what kind of children may eat more unhealthy food?‎ A.Those who often do sports ‎ B.Those who often walk to school ‎ C.Those who often watch television ‎ D.Those who often have meals at home ‎ ‎29.The author thinks that children are becoming overweight because _____.‎ A.their parents often cook meals for them B.they are too busy to go out and play C.they can't choose what to eat D.there are too many fast food shops around ‎30.What does the underlined word "steering" in the last sentence most probably means?‎ A. moving B. forcing. C. driving D. guiding.‎ ‎31.The main purpose of the text is to .‎ A. tell a story B. provide facts C. give advice D. compare opinions D Humans spend nearly a third of their lives sleeping. Going without sleep will make you psychotic(精神错乱)and, eventually, kill you, It's clear that shut-eye is important to the body’s ability to function. But no one knows what sleep actually does. “It's sort of embarrassing.”said Dr. Michael Halassa, a neuroscientist at New York University. "It’s obvious why we need to eat but it's not clear why we need to sleep at all We’re easily hurt when we’re asleep, so whatever sleep does,it must be worth the risk of the brain taking itself mostly offline. There are a few theories about why we sleep, and although none of them are totally solid, a few try to explain what happens each night, pulling in research on topics ranging from cellular processes to cognition. Researchers say it does seem clear that sleep is key to the brain’s ability to recognise itself. It’s not hard to prove that sleep is important. Rats totally deprived(剥夺) of sleep die within two or three weeks, according to research by the pioneering university of Chicago sleep scientists Allan Rechtschaffen. No one has done similar experiments on humans, but a 2014 study published in The Joumal of Euroscience found that mere 24 hours of sleep deprivation caused heathy people to have hallucinations(幻觉))and other psychotic symptoms.‎ One reason why it is difficult to get a handle on why we sleep is that sleep is actually pretty difficult to study. Sleep deprivation studies are the most common way to study sleep, but depriving an animal of sleep disturbs many of its biological systems. It's hard to tell which outcomes are directly due to sleep deprivation rather than, say, stress.‎ The other reason why sleep is hard to understand is that the brain may be doing two different things during the two major stages of sleep. As the night wears on, sleepers cycle through non-rapid eye movement(non-REM)and rapid eye movement ‎ (REM)sleep. The brain's electrical activity during REM sleep looks much like it does when a person is awake, but the muscles of the body don't work.‎ ‎32. What does the underlined phrase "get a handle on"mean in the third paragraph?‎ A. deal with B. keep pace with C. take control of D. get an understanding of ‎33. Which of the following may scientists have no doubt about?‎ A. Why we need sleep. B.Sleep is important C. Sleep is easy to study. D. Stress causes sleep deprivation ‎34. Why has nobody done sleep-deprivation experiments on humans?‎ A. They cost humans’life.‎ B. They do great harm to humans.‎ C. All biological systems may be disturbed.‎ D. Human brains do different things during sleep.‎ ‎35. Where can this passage most probably be found?‎ A. In a scientific report. B. In a lifestyle report.‎ ‎ C. In an official document. D.
