‎ A Two things changed my life: my mother and a white, plastic, daisy bike basket. I would be a different person if my mom hadn't turned a silly bicycle accessory (配件) into a life lesson I carry with me today.‎ ‎     It was summer and, one day, my mother drove me to the bike shop to get a tire fixed — and there it was in the window. White, shiny, plastic and decorated with daisies, the basket seemed so appealing and I knew I had to have it.‎ ‎     "Mom, please can I get it? I'll do extra chores for as long as you say. I'll do anything, but I need that basket. I love that basket. Please, Mom. Please?"‎ ‎     "You know," she said, gently rubbing my back while we both stared at what I believed was the coolest thing ever, "If you save up, you could buy this yourself."‎ ‎     "By the time I make enough it'll be gone!"‎ ‎     "Maybe Roger here could hold it for you." she smiled at Roger, the bike guy.‎ ‎     "For that long? He can't hold it for that long, Mom. Someone else will buy it. Please, Mom, please?"‎ ‎     "There might be another choice," she said. My mother bought the beautiful basket and put it safely out of reach in some hiding place I couldn't find. Each week I eagerly counted my growing nest egg earned by extra work here and there (washing the car, helping my mother make dinner, delivering milk around the neighborhood). And then, weeks later maybe, I counted, re-counted and jumped for joy. Oh, I made it! I finally had the exact amount we'd agreed upon.‎ ‎     Days later, the unthinkable happened. A neighborhood girl I'd played with appeared with the exact same basket fixed to her shiny, new bike. I rode my bike fast home to tell my mother about this disaster, this horrible turn of events.‎ ‎     And then came the lesson I've taken with me through my life: "Honey, your basket is extra-special," Mom said, gently wiping away my hot tears. "Your basket is special because you paid for it yourself."‎ ‎1. In Paragraph 1, the writer shows a sense of _______.‎ A: loneliness B: thankfulness C: helplessness D: cleverness ‎2. The writer finally got the basket she desired by _______.‎ A: working and saving B: crying and begging C: waiting and sharing D: borrowing and returning ‎3. What lesson did the mother want to teach her children?‎ A: Hard work leads to success.‎ B: After rain comes fair weather.‎ C: The fruit of one's labor tastes sweeter.‎ D: Understanding and patience bring happiness.‎ B The situation is that familiar --- deadlines are approaching, time runs out, disorder and confusion fills the day. The feeling is just as familiar ---a slightly faster heart rate, and shortness of breath. Yes, it is panic time.‎ It’s too late to kick yourself with “I should have started on this sooner.” or “It was a mistake to accept this tight deadline.” The only thing left to deal with the situation is to panic more efficiently.‎ ‎① Focus.‎ Panic happens when you are on an overload --- too many things to do, too much pressure, too little time. But if you focus on the tasks that you need to take care of, and line them up in a logical list, you can have better control of a highly stressful and wild situation.‎ ‎② Get rid of distractions.‎ Time wasters and unnecessary activities are the last things you need during this time. Let everyone know you are on panic mode and should not be disturbed unless it is an emergency.‎ ‎③ Watch your time.‎ Don’t be too engaged in one detail so that you reduce your timing for the other important details. Mind the time and deal with each task so that you can finish all of the required activities sufficiently.‎ Try to solve a panic situation as quickly as you can so that you can rest and get back your energy and strength for the next one.‎ ‎4. The author suggests those on an overload______ .‎ A. paying no attention to their panic mode   ‎ B. planning their work according to a timetable C. doing their work in a careful and logical way    ‎ D. asking their friends to help do the work ‎5. The underlined word "distraction" probably refers to something that______.‎ A. draws off one’s attention   ‎ B. needs to be done at once C. is worth doing    ‎ D. costs much money ‎6. Which of the following can be the title of the passage?‎ A. A Familiar Situation    ‎ B. Panic More Efficiently C. Keep Your Spirit High   ‎ ‎  D. Throw Away Distractions C With only about 1, 000 pandas left in the world, China is desperately trying to clone(克隆)the animal and save the endangered species. That's a move similar to what Texas A & M University researchers have been undertaking for the past five years in a project called “Noah's Ark”.  Noah's Ark is aimed at collecting eggs, embryos(胚胎), semen and DNA of endangered animals and storing them in liquid nitrogen(氮). If certain species should become extinct, Dr. Duane Kraemer, a professor in Texas A & M's College of Veterinary Medicine, says there would be enough of the basic building blocks to reintroduce the species in the future.  It is estimated that as many as 2, 000 species of mammals, birds, reptiles will become extinct in over 100 years. The panda, native only to China, is in danger of becoming extinct in the next 25 years.  This week, Chinese scientists said they grew an embryo by introducing cells from a dead female panda into the egg cells of a Japanese white rabbit. They are now trying to implant the embryo into a host animal.  The entire procedure could take from three to five years to complete.  “The nuclear transfer(核子移植)of one species to another is not easy, and the ‎ lack of available(capable of being used)panda eggs could be a major problem,” Kraemer believes. “They will probably have to do several hundred transfers to result in one pregnancy(having a baby). It takes a long time and it's difficult, but this could be groundbreaking science if it works. They are certainly not putting any live pandas at risk, so it is worth the effort,” adds Kraemer, who is one of the leaders of the Project at Texas A & M, the first-ever attempt at cloning a dog.  “They are trying to do something that's never been done, and this is very similar to our work in Noah's Ark. We're both trying to save animals that face extinction. I certainly appreciate their effort and there's a lot we can learn from what they are attempting to do. It's a research that is very much needed.”  7.The aim of “Noah's Ark” project is to ________.  A.make efforts to clone the endangered pandas  B.save endangered animals from dying out  C.collect DNA of endangered animals to study  D.transfer the nuclear of one animal to another  8.According to Professor Kraemer, the major problem in cloning pandas would be the lack of ________.  A.available panda eggs B.host animals  C.qualified researchers D.enough money  9.The best title for the passage may be ________.  A.China's Success in Pandas Cloning  B.The First Cloned Panda in the World  C.Exploring the Possibility to Clone Pandas  D.China —the Native Place of Pandas Forever  10.From the passage we know that ________.  A.Kraemer and his team have succeeded in cloning a dog  B.scientists try to implant a panda's egg into a rabbit  C.Kraemer will work with Chinese scientists in clone researches  D.about two thousand of species will probably die out in a century ‎ ‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题 2分,满分10 分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。 选项中有两项为多余选项。 ‎ ‎  When people have a choice of whom to work with, likability can sometimes matter a little bit more than ability, said Tiziana Casciaro, an associate professor at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, who researches likability in the workplace.  11   These strategies can help:‎ ‎       12    ‎ ‎     You can induce a sense of similarity with almost anybody by finding things you have in common. They may not be apparent right away, so be observant. Great salespeople do this all the time by studying potential customers for bits and pieces of their lives they can relate to.‎ ‎     Like someone and they'll like you right back ‎      13   Flattery(奉承) can convey fondness, but  she  doesn't  recommend  ‎ using the fake kind, even though it may work. Casciaro said, "Flattery that is completely made up is exhausting and morally blameworthy." Instead, let a praise come from a real place.   14    For instance, "I really appreciate what you did yesterday."  When you give people praises, it goes a very long way towards their liking you back.‎ ‎    Be a familiar presence ‎     Humans like things that are familiar, so just seeing you around in person makes you more likable to others. "This concept gives a whole new meaning to the idea of face time," Casciaro said.   15    If not, just try to talk to people as much as possible in person during work hours, she advised. You want to maximize rich interactions and cut down on the drier ones, like texts and phone calls. Be sure to be seen.‎ A: Ask a lot of questions.‎ B: See the positive in a person and express it to him.‎ C: People like to guess what others think about them.‎ D: What can you do to increase your chances of being liked?‎ E: Find the common points that link you with another person.‎ F: It's almost irresistible that we like people who seem to like us.‎ G: Go to after-work drinks if you have time and you would find the outing enjoyable.‎ 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空( 共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题纸上将该项涂黑。‎ ‎  It's a sad and familiar voice that we often hear in big cities: "Can you spare some change?"‎ ‎    Usually, when faced with that particular 16 , I have feelings of guilt if I pass by  17  giving a coin or two.‎ ‎    I had that feeling  18 in Venice while on a tour of Italy's famous sites in 2006. We decided to start at Miss Parson's house. Miss Parson was loved by us kids who lived near by because she often shared her self-made cookies with us. We usually finished them in a second, especially when we were hungry after class. Sometimes, when we visited her or did something for her, she always gave us Surprise.‎ Kate and I wondered what kinds of treats she'd offer. As we walked down the street, I held an umbrella, a bag for Candy, and my sister's hand. Jack-o-Lanterns gave soft light along the street. Spider webs hung in all the windows. Parents who were dressed up like monsters(怪物) stood in doorways. After we had walked a few blocks, we were wet from head to toes, and I felt Kate was trembling with cold.‎ There was a light on at Miss Parson's house, but there were no ghosts, goblins(小妖精), or Jack-o-Lanterns. We climbed up the steps and saw Miss Parson through a window.
