(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)‎ A Years ago, our City Farm was started by local volunteers in Windmill Hill, and today volunteers continue to offer help to all areas of the farm. The City Farm tries to meet the needs of local people through many social, environmental and educational activities. We could not continue this work without the generosity of volunteers who devote their time and skills to helping us.‎ ‎ Why volunteer?‎ ‎ People choose to volunteer for many reasons. For some, it offers a chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others, it provides an opportunity to develop new skills and enrich their experience and knowledge.‎ ‎ Gardening ‎ There are wonderful garden spaces at Windmill Hill City Farm. They are open to the public all year round. We welcome people who would like to volunteer in our community gardens to learn and share the skills to plant the gardens for everyone to enjoy, as well as growing and harvesting (收获) food for our café and farm shops.‎ ‎ Helping in the café ‎ Volunteers support the café by helping in the kitchens and serving our customers. Volunteering in the café is a valuable opportunity for people who want to develop their skills in a friendly customer service environment.‎ ‎ Volunteering with animals ‎ Animals need feeding and keeping comfortable. Besides our supported volunteer groups doing animal care, we have a small number of weekend volunteers. Vacancies(空职) become available from time to time and we have a very high interest in finding some fixed volunteers to look after the animals.‎ So if you're willing to join us, please email Lizzie at lizzie. spencer@wndmillhillcityfarm.org.uk.‎ ‎1. Volunteers who can work on weekends are needed.‎ B ‎ Before you make friends, you have to decide who you want to be your friends. Most people like to have friends who like to do the same thing they do.‎ ‎ The quickest way to make a friend is to smile. When you smile, people think you are friendly and easy to talk to. It may not be easy at first to smile, but remember most people will stay away from a scared(害怕的or angry-looking face.‎ ‎ One easy way to start a conversation with someone is to say something nice about him. Think about how great you feel when someone says something nice to you. Doesn't ‎ it make you want to keep talking to that person?‎ ‎ Ask your new friends questions about themselves. Who their favorite singer is, where they live, what they do after school are all good questions to start a conversation. Make sure you have something to add to the conversation, too. When someone asks you a question, do have an answer for him or her. There's nothing that will stop a conversation quicker than a shrug for an answer.‎ ‎ Kids who show an interest in other kids or are kind and friendly make good friends easily. Remember, everyone wants to be around people who like to do similar things or are nice to them.‎ ‎4. Most people like to make friends with those________.‎ ‎ A. who are sad every day ‎ B. who share the same interest ‎ C. who are fond of talking ‎ D. who say bad things to them ‎5. What does the underlined part in this passage mean?‎ ‎ A. Being very proud.‎ ‎ B. Making no answer.‎ ‎ C. Knowing nothing.‎ ‎ D. Not hoping to answer.‎ ‎7. This passage gives us some advice on _________.‎ ‎ A. how to make friends ‎ B. what kind of person you can make friends with ‎ C. how to start a conversation ‎ D. how to mile C ‎ People enjoy taking trips. But what are the reasons they leave home? One reason is for education.‎ ‎ People travel because they want to broaden their horizons (眼界) to learn about other people and other places. They are curious about other cultures. When people are tourists, they get a quick look at different ways of living. Even a short look at another kind of lifestyle is an important lesson. On a trip, a person can learn directly by visiting museums and historic spots. What does a tourist learn who sees the art museums, visits the historical palaces and other scenic spots in Paris and shops along the River Seine? He gets a vivid picture, a real life of one of the French people. He learns about their attitudes, how they feel about business, beauty and history. What about the tourist who goes to Hong Kong? Does he get the same information that he could get from a book? He might read that Hong Kong is crowded. But seeing and feeling the lack of space will impress him much more. He might read that there are nearly 200 vehicles for every kilometre of roadway. But the sight of so many vehicles parked along the roadside would be a much more vivid lesson. The tourist to Hong Kong will never forget the contrasts: the straight vertical (垂直的) lines of tall modern buildings and the moving lines of boats that people live in.‎ ‎8. Why do people leave home to travel according to the passage?‎ ‎ A. For education B. For adventure.‎ ‎ C. To enjoy themselves. D. To look for a different lifestyle.‎ ‎9. What do we learn from the passage about Paris?‎ ‎ A. It has a dense (密集的) population.‎ ‎ B. It has many towering buildings.‎ ‎ C. There are 200 vehicles for every kilometre of roadway.‎ ‎ D. There are many museums and palaces.‎ ‎10. What impression will a tourist get of Hong Kong?‎ ‎ A. It has many big and beautiful parks.‎ ‎ B. It is a city of contrasts.‎ ‎ C. It possesses many historical sites.‎ ‎ D. It is an important industrial centre.‎ ‎11. What does the passage tell us about travelling?‎ ‎ A. It makes our life more interesting.‎ ‎ B. It enables us to get first-hand knowledge.‎ ‎ C. It helps develop our personalities.‎ ‎ D. It is bad in our lifestyle.‎ D I remember a day when I was a little kid. I was making a sandwich in the kitchen when I noticed the date on one of the wine (白酒) bottles.‎ ‎“Dad, dad!” I cried. “This wine is too old to drink.”‎ ‎“Son, hold on,” he said.‎ ‎“No, you can't drink this tonight! This bottle of wine was made 10 years ago.”‎ ‎“Wait, let me tell you…”‎ ‎ “Would you like me to throw it away from you?” I asked.‎ ‎ “Son, wait a second,” he said. “Son, some wines get better over time. The longer you wait to drink it, the better it will be. Although this may seem strange, it is true.”‎ ‎ When I was young, I didn't have any understanding of what this meant, but now, this would have been very helpful to remember as I went through my teenage years.‎ ‎ In our society, we forget this simple rule: the longer you want for certain things, the better they will be. But we want the best job as quickly as possible; we want to graduate from college in as few years as possible; we even speed through our homework just to chat with friends. When we do this, we lose something of great importance.‎ ‎ We all want to get to the next step so quickly that perhaps we don't get ready enough to get there. This has a negative effect on our society. When trying to go to the right college, we will do anything to get in and when we rush through our classwork, we may not study enough for the test, and end up failing. We need to be ready for whatever comes, ready for the unexpected. Wine gets better over time, so ‎ do the things in our paths of life.‎ ‎12. Why did the author tell his father not to drink the bottle of wine?‎ ‎ A. Because it smelt terrible.‎ ‎ B. Because it was mixed with something else.‎ ‎ C. Because his father drank too much that night.‎ ‎ D. Because it had been kept for years.‎ ‎13. What the author's father said_________.‎ ‎ A. made the author puzzled when he was a little child ‎ B. was too simple a rule to be meaningful to the author ‎ C. threw the author into deep thought then ‎ ‎ D. was an excuse to drink the wine ‎14. In the author's opinion, if we do things too quickly, we will________.‎ ‎ A. do it better ‎ B. save much time ‎ C. graduate from college more quickly ‎ D. miss something important to us in life ‎15. Which of the following best reflects the main idea of the passage?‎ ‎ A. Well begun is half done.‎ ‎ B. More haste(匆忙), less speed.‎ ‎ C. Failure is the mother of success.‎ ‎ D. Nothing is impossible to a willing heat.‎ 第二节(共5小题 每小题2分 满分10分) 根据短文内容从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 ‎ A good relationship between students and teachers makes the classroom a very inviting place.
