In this challenge, young competitors must write Chinese characters by hand. To prepare for the competition, the competitors usually spend months studying dictionaries.‎ Perhaps the show’s popularity should not be a surprise. Along with gunpowder and paper, many Chinese people consider the creation of Chinese calligraphy(书法) to be one of their primary contributions. Unfortunately, all over the country, Chinese people are forgetting how to write their own language without computerized help. Software on smart phones and computers allows users to type in the basic sound of the word using the Latin alphabet(字母). The correct character is chosen from a list. The result? It’s possible to recognize characters without remembering how to write them.‎ But there’s still hope for the paint brush. China’s Education Ministry wants children to spend more time learning how to write.‎ In one Beijing primary school we visited, students practice calligraphy every day inside a specially decorated classroom with traditional Chinese paintings hanging on the walls. Soft music plays as a group of sixyearold dip brush pens into black ink. They look up at the blackboard often to study their teacher’s examples before carefully trying to reproduce those characters on ‎ thin rice paper. “If adults can survive without using handwriting, why bother to teach it now?” we ask the calligraphy teacher, Shen Bin. “The ability to write characters is part of Chinese tradition and culture,” she reasons. “Students must learn now so they don’t forget when they grow up.” says the teacher.‎ ‎21.What can we learn about the Character Hero?‎ A.It draws great public attention across the country.‎ B.It’s the mostviewed TV programs in the world.‎ C.It means to spread Chinese culture to the world.‎ D.It’s open to people of all ages and all walks.‎ ‎22.Why are Chinese people forgetting how to write the characters?‎ A.Chinese people don’t refer to dictionaries very often.‎ B.Chinese people no longer use brush pens or practice calligraphy.‎ C.Chinese people are using the Latin alphabet instead of the characters.‎ D.Chinese people needn’t write by hand as often with the help of technology.‎ ‎23.According to Shen Bin, being able to write characters by hand is ________.‎ A.necessary for adults to survive in China B.a requirement made by the Education Ministry C.helpful to keep Chinese tradition and culture alive D.an ability to be developed only when you are students B Newborns begin to develop language skills long before they begin speaking. And, compared to adults, they develop these skills more quickly. People have a hard time learning new languages as they grow older, but babies have the ability to learn any language easily.‎ For a long time, scientists have tried to explain how such young children can learn the complicated grammatical rules and sounds of a language. Now, researchers are getting a better idea of what’s happening in the brains of the tiniest language learners. This new information might help kids with learning problems as well as adults who want to learn new languages. It might even help scientists who are trying to design computers that can communicate like people do.‎ Most babies go “ma ma” by 6 months of age, and most children speak in full sentences by age 3. For many years, scientists have wondered how the brains of young children figure out how ‎ to communicate using language. With help from new technologies, scientists are now finding that babies begin life with the ability to learn any language. They get into contact with other people, listen to what they say and watch their movements very closely. That is why they quickly master the languages they hear most often.‎ Studies show that, up to about 6 months of age, babies can recognize all the sounds that make up all the languages in the world. Starting at around 6 months old a baby’s brain focuses on the most common sounds it hears. Then, children begin responding only to the sounds of the language they hear the most.‎ In a similar way older babies start recognizing the patterns that make up the rules of their native language. For example, English children who are about 18 months old start to figure out that words ending in “-ing” or “-ed” are usually verbs, and that verbs are action words.‎ ‎24.The new research in the second paragraph can be helpful in _____.‎ A.finding successful language learners B.teaching kids with learning problems C.designing human-shaped computers D.improving babies’ language ability ‎25.The researchers found out that babies learn a language mainly by _____.‎ A.repeating the words of other people ‎ B.remembering the full sentences they hear C.hearing and closely watching others speak ‎ D.figuring out the meaning of different sounds ‎26.The purpose of the text is to _____.‎ A. discuss B. educate C. inform D. entertain C As is often the case, parents are very shocked to discover their children have lied to them for the first time. But new research has suggested many parents may not even notice many of the lies their children tell them.‎ Psychologists have discovered that most parents are over-confident in their children’s honesty and this may impair their ability to discover a lie.‎ The findings may help to explain why some parents seem to be willing to let their children get away with almost anything even in the face of the evidence. They say parents suffer from a ‎ “truth bias(偏见)” with their own youngsters, but when faced with lies from other people’s children, they have less difficulty telling if a statement is true or not.‎ Dr Angela Evans, a psychologist at Brock University in Canada, said, “The close relationship that parents share with their own children may lead to parents failing to detect their children’s lies. Parents’ truth bias may result in parents being less suspicious of their children, allowing them to successfully cheat them.”‎ Most children are thought to start lying as early as two years old but start telling more believable lies at around the age of four years old. Learning how to lie is considered as a key part of cognitive(认知的) and social development in children. But many parents are shocked when their children start lying to them. In their study, Dr Evans and her colleagues filmed 108 children aged between 8 and 16 as they performed a test after being asked not to look at the answers. They were then asked afterwards if they had looked, with 50 truthfully denying looking, 49 lying about looking and 9 admitting to looking.‎ Videos of those denying looking were then shown to 152 parents of children aged 8 to 16, 80 of whom had children who had taken part in the test. The researchers found that the parents were less able to spot lies told by their own children than by other people’s children.‎ ‎27.What does the underlined word “impair” in Paragraph 2 mean?‎ A.Show. B.Develop. C.Recognize. D.Damage.‎ ‎28.When lying to their parents, children can’t be easily found because ________.‎ A.their parents aren’t prepared for the lies B.their parents can’t notice any of their lies C.they are very good at hiding their lies D.they know how to lie to their parents ‎29.What does Dr Evans want to find about children’s lying?‎ A.What makes parents lose trust in their children.‎ B.What causes children to tell lies to their parents.‎ C.What makes parents fail to see their children’s lies.‎ D.What affects children’s relations with their parents.‎ ‎30.What can be inferred from Dr Evans’s study in the last two paragraphs?‎ A.Parents tend to protect their own children.‎ B.Lying is a part of children’s development.‎ C.Children aged 8 to 16 are very likely to tell lies.‎ D.Parents can easily judge lies told by children of others.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Why Do We Find It Hard to Say “No”?‎ As we all know, saying “no” to others is not easy at all. But sometimes we have to learn to say “no”. 31. Below are common reasons why people find it hard to say “no”:‎ ‎● 32. You are a kind soul at heart. You don’t want to turn the person away and you want to help when possible, even if it may eat into your time.‎ ‎● Afraid of being rude. I was brought up under the idea that saying “no”, especially to people who are older, is rude. This thinking is common in Asian culture, where face saving is important. 33.‎ ‎● Wanting to be agreeable. You don’t want to alienate (疏远) yourself from the group because you’re not in agreement. So you agree to others’ requests.‎ ‎● Fear of conflict (冲突). 34. This might lead to an ugly confrontation (面对). Even if there isn’t, there might be disagreement which might lead to bad effects in the future.‎ ‎●35. Perhaps you are worried saying “no” means closing doors. For example, one of my friends’ wives was asked to work in another department in her company. Since she liked her team, she didn’t want to go. However, she didn’t want to say “no” as she felt it would affect her promotion (晋升) chances in the future.‎ A.Wanting to help others.‎ B.Fear of losing chances.‎ C.Wanting to keep a good relationship.‎ D.I slowly realized I needed to learn to say “no”.‎ E. You are afraid the person might be angry if you refuse him / her.‎ F. It means not making others look bad or lose face.‎ G. To learn to say “no”, we have to first understand what’s stopping us from it.‎ 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 (共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。‎ Telling the truth is a very good habit. They always played together and went home together. One day Robert and Henry were going home from school, when, on turning a corner, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let’s go and see!”‎ ‎“No,” said Henry. “Let us go quietly home and not meddle with(插手) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into mischief(trouble). Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don’t want them to worry about me. ”‎ ‎“You are a coward, and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.‎ But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn’t want to play with him together.‎ Henry was sad but he wasn’t angry with Robert for his rude behavior, because he learned that true courage is shown most in bearing misunderstanding when it was not deserved, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys’ laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn’t invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn’t go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.‎ A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled, and screamed for help, but all in vain. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did not even try to help him.‎ 注意:‎ ‎1. ‎ Paragraph 1:‎ Robert was fast sinking.____________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________‎ Paragraph 2:‎ Thus, Robert’s life was saved._______________________________________________‎ ‎__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ 第二节 应用文写作(满分25分)‎ 假定你是李华,你的美国朋友Peter听说中国年轻人现在提倡简化(simplify)生活,发邮件向你咨询有关简化生活的建议。 ‎ Dear Peter,‎ I’m writing to tell you that__________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ Yours,‎ Li Hu ‎【参考答案】‎ ‎1~5 CCACB 6~10 BCABC 11~15 CBABB 16~20 BCAAC ‎21~25 ADCBC 26~30 CDACD 31~35 GAFEB 36~40 CADBC ‎41~45 ADABA 46~50 BCCDA 51~55 ADBDC ‎56.because/as 57.years 58.taller 59.Personally 60.takes ‎61.hers 62.relaxing 63.a 64.in 65.which 读后续写参考:‎ Robert was fast sinking. It seemed as if Robert would be drowned. Just at the moment, Henry happened to be passing by. Hearing the screams, Henry ran to the riverside, threw off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He reached Robert just as he was sinking the last time. By great effort, and with much danger to himself, he brought Robert to the shore.‎ Thus, Robert’s life was saved. Robert and his new friends were ashamed at having called Henry a coward. They realized that Henry had true courage. They said sorry to Henry for their rude behavior and asked for his forgiveness. Henry forgave them happily. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this, Robert learned what true courage was: never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil.‎ 应用文写作参考:‎ Dear Peter,‎ I’m writing to tell you that more and more young people in China prefer to live a simple life. The following are my suggestions on how best to simplify our life.‎ First of all, what I propose is that we shouldn’t waste too much food, money or time, which is a good way to keep our mental and physical health. In addition, trying to keep away from electronic products can make you feel more relaxed and energetic. Last but not least, by spending more time accompanying your family rather than joining different kinds of clubs, you will feel less stressed and anxious.‎ I hope you will find these recommendations useful.‎ Yours Li Hua
