Now thanks to some researchers at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Austria, we finally have some convincing evidence.‎ For this study, biologist Corson Miller and his team exposed eleven selected dogs to digital images of women that were either angry or happy. Half the dogs were rewarded for touching the screen when shown a happy face, while the other half were given their treat for selecting those that appeared angry.‎ Interestingly, the dogs were not provided with the entire face. Some dogs were shown only upper halves while the others observed lower halves. That’s because the scientists believe humans show their eruptions on their entire face.‎ After some training on how to recognize small differences like the wrinkles between the eyes or the changes in their shape that accompany the happy or angry expressions, the dogs were mostly able to identify the correct expression not only on a familiar face but on a strange face, the researchers concluded the dogs were smart enough to read human emotions.‎ They also found those being trained to read angry expressions took a longer time to learn. They guess it may be because dogs find angry faces disgusting, causing them to back ‎ away quickly. However, once the smart dogs realized they were getting rewarded, the trepidation seemed to disappear. In fact, the dogs had such a good time playing the computer “game” that scientists had a hard time keeping them away from the touch screens after the study was completed.‎ The researchers also noticed only dogs with a male owner had a harder time understanding the expressions correctly. Since the touched screen models were all females, this confirmed what had been observed in previous studies—dogs are more efficient at reading facial expressions of people that are the same gender as their owner.‎ ‎21.How did the scientists conduct the experiment?‎ A.By mixing the selected dogs together.‎ B.By rewarding only half of the dogs touching the screen.‎ C.By leaving dogs to women who are either happy or angry.‎ D.By showing digital pictures of women’s happy or angry faces.‎ ‎22.What is the meaning of the underlined word “trepidation” in Paragraph 5?‎ A.fear and hesitation B.doubt and uncertainty C.curiosity and eagerness D.excitement and happiness ‎23.According to the last paragraph, dogs with female owners ________.‎ A.are scared away at the male faces B.can only read the expressions on partial faces C.are uninterested in telling facial expressions D.have difficulty telling the moods on the faces of males ‎24.What is the best title for this passage?‎ A.Dogs and Their Owners B.Dogs’ Mood Research C.Dogs Identify the Moods D.Mood Changes Influence Dogs B Just a couple of hours ago, I was on the plane, ready to fly home from London. The flight had been delayed by a few hours so it felt good to be so close to take-off. I had my iPod in place and a new book to read. Then, over the loudspeaker came the pilot’s voice: "The ground crew has found a metal instrument in one tire. We regret that we must cancel this flight."‎ The passengers’ reactions that announcement led to were interesting. One man close to me began to argue with a flight attendant. A couple in another row complained loudly. A businessman in a black suit actually kicked the seat in front of him. Yet some passengers responded differently. An elderly gentleman smiled as he helped others take their bags down from the overhead compartments (隔间). A teenager, rather than trying to rush off the plane like most of the other passengers, stopped to help a woman with a disability. And the Chinese doctor claims that he has found an answer to the problems of aging.‎ His solution is a herbal medicine to slow the process of aging.‎ Dr. Shen Ziyin has been trained in Western medicine. At the same time he studied traditional Chinese medicine. And, he has been working for the past forty years to put together the best of both and find a cure for aging. He has taken a hint from the ancient Chinese medicine system called "shen".‎ According to Shen, it is the kidney (肾脏)which adjusts the functioning of the body as well as its aging process. It is responsible for the level of activity that the human bodies go through. Studies conducted by Dr. Shen show that herbal medicine based on the shen system slow the aging process, says a report in The Telegraph newspaper.‎ We notice that when people grow old, they have reduced strength, loss of hair, backache, weakness in general, and wrinkles, among others. This happens because when people grow old, their bodies produce T-cells. These T-cells contain a particular substance called Fas. Fas makes the cells in the body destruct themselves.‎ So the only way to slow down aging is to slow the production of T-cells in the body. This can happen if people eat low calorie food. Then the body is not active enough to produce extra T-cells. But, is going hungry all the time a good price to pay for staying young?‎ This is where Dr. Shen's herbal medicine comes in. But how effective it will be, only time can tell.‎ ‎32.How did Dr. Shen find the solution to the problem of aging?‎ A.By studying Western medicine.‎ B.By learning traditional Chinese medicine.‎ C.By doing research on both Western and Chinese people.‎ D.By combining both Western and Chinese medicine.‎ ‎33.What plays the most important role in keeping people young according to Shen?‎ A.Medical treatment. B.People's good kidney.‎ C.Level of people's activity. D.Positive life attitude.‎ ‎34.The reason why people become old is that _____.‎ A.they become weaker and weaker B.their bodies are unable to fight diseases C.they have reduced strength, loss of hair D.their bodies produce T-cells ‎35.We can probably learn from the passage that _____.‎ A.eating more low calorie food can allow people to keep young B.the more Chinese herbal medicine people drink, the better for health C.people should try to quicken the production of T-cells in the body D.Dr. Shen's herbal medicine is very effective 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎ Vitamin D is necessary for bone-building, immune function, blood sugar control, positive mood and more. 36. However, it’s not a great idea to just take a supplement (补品) off the drugstore shelf and start taking it.‎ Since many of us have an inadequate amount vitamin D, also known as the “sunshine vitamin”, doctors will often give us high levels of D supplements, with doses ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 IU (International Units) per day, up to 50,000 IU per week and sometimes even more. 37. Adults aged 71 and older need 800 IU, since the ability to absorb vitamin D drops with age.
