He moved there a few years ago, and I was eager to see his new place and meet his friends. My earliest memories of my father are a tall, handsome, successful man devoted to his wor and his family, but un fortable with his children. As a child I loved him. He seemed unhappy with me unless I got straight A’s and unhappy with my boyfriends if their fathers were not as “successful” as he was. Whenever I went out with him on wee ends, I used to struggle to thin up things to say, feeling on guard. On the first day of my visit, we went out with one of my father’s friends for lunch at an outdoor café. We wal ed along that afternoon, did some shopping, ate on the street table, and laughed over my son’s funny facial expressions. Gone was my father’s critical (挑剔的) air and strict rules. Who was this person I new as my father, who seemed so friendly and interesting to be around? What had held him bac before? The next day dad too out his childhood pictures and told me quite a few stories about his own childhood. Although our times together became easier over the years, I never felt closer to him at that moment. After so many years, I’m at last seeing another side of my father. And in so doing, I’m delighted with my new friend. My dad, in his new home in Ari ona, is bac to me from where he was. 21. What does the author thin of her father before her visit to Tucson? A. At first, I did not now if I should go because honestly, I am not the biggest sports fan of any ind. However, I would not never regret going there after I watched it. Although many people don’t consider cross-country a sport, I disagree. Cross-country beginners have to wor out and exercise just li e you do for any other sport. They run for hours and miles. In fact, many sports consider running as their punishment for bad behaviour(行为), but I wonder what the coach would do to punish a cross-country beginner. Honestly, I never new how much fun I would have watching many ids run for fun. They ept running no matter how tired they were. The public would not only just cheer for the runners they now but also cheer for all runners, fast and slow. When the students heard you cheering them on, or even just clapping(鼓掌) to encourage them, they would start sprinting and try their best to cross the finish line. My students did a wonderful job and I too many pictures of them. When they found that someone from their school came to see them, they were very exacted. Cross-county is actually pretty great and I definitely want to support cross-country later in my teaching career. What I will do next is to go the meets with my students. 24. We can learn from the second paragraph that cross-country beginners____. A.often exercise for a short time at first B. need to train hard through running C.will not be punished because of bad behaviour(行为) D. never exercise mile after mile 25.What is the meaning of the underlined word “sprinting” in Paragraph 2? A.Ta ing a brea B. Be ing shy C.Running as fast as possible D. Shouting as loudly as possible 26. How will the author support cross-country? A. By cheering on the runners B. By guiding the runners C. By attending the meets D. By running along with the runners C Most people thin greyhounds(灰狗)practise a lot during their free time. But they are actually quite la y Greyhounds are good at fast races but not long-distance running. They do need regular exercise but they li e to run for a short burst and then get bac on the bed or a fortable seat. Another misunderstanding is that greyhounds must be aggressive(好斗的)because they are big in si e. In fact greyhounds love people and are gentle with children. Greyhounds can live for 12-14 years but usually only race for two or three years, and after that they ma e great pets. They don’t need a lot of space, don’ t ma e a lot of noise, and don’ t eat a lot for their si e. Normally, greyhounds can be as tall as 90 cm. There is, however, a small-si ed greyhound, which stands only 33 cm. Greyhounds e in a variety of colors. Grey and yellowish-brown are the most mon. Others include blac ,white, blue, red and brown or a mix of these. Greyhounds have smooth body coats, low body fat and are very healthy. Because they’re slim(苗条的)they don’t have the leg problems li e other dogs the same height. But they do feel the cold, especially since they would much rather be at home in bed than wal ing around outside. 27. The main purpose of the passage is to______ . A. tell people two misunderstandings about greyhounds. B. let people now more about greyhounds. C. explain why greyhounds are aggressive. D. describe greyhounds of different colors. 28.What can we infer from the passage? A. People love greyhounds because of its aggression. B. Greyhounds li e staying in bed all day. C. A.to eep it slim B.to eep it warm C.to ta e special care of its legs D.to ta e it to animal doctors regularly 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 We shouldn’t judge a person by their appearance but we do. In fact, the experts say that when we meet someone for the first time we ma e a decision about what that person is li e in three seconds. 31 One of the most important things we loo at is clothes, but it isn't the brand of clothes that people wear that is important.
