The bride and her father arrived in a new black American sport car. Her father looked nervous and uncomfortable in front of the cameras. The bride wore a silk wedding dress. She smiled nervously at the waiting photographers and went to a room on the first floor where she met her future husband for the very first time. Carla Germaine and Greg Cordell were the winners of a radio station’s competition. The aim of the competition was to find two strangers prepared to marry without having met each other. Miss Germaine, 23, is a model. Mr. Cordell, 27, is a TV salesman. They were among the two hundred people who entered a special “experiment” organized by BMRB radio in Birmingham, England, Greg, and Carla were among eight finalists who were interviewed live on a radio. The couple celebrated their wedding with a wedding breakfast and a party for 100 guests in the evening, but not everyone shared their joy. Miss Germaine’s mother looked anxious throughout the wedding and Mr. Cordell’s parents are reported to be less than delighted. Organizations, including the marriage guidance Service Relate, have criticized the marriage. As one person put it, “We have enough problems getting young people to take marriage seriously without this. Marriage should always be about love.” The couple are now on a Caribbean honeymoon followed by journalists. Which of the following is the best title of the passage? A. Two Strangers and a Wedding B. A Wedding Based on Love C. A Short-lived Marriage D. A Well-Matched Couple B A good hiking trip should be planned out ahead of time. Whether it is a hike on a mountain trail(路线)or through the woods, an enjoyable hiking trip can easily turn into a dangerous situation if safety is not considered well. North Mountain State Park recommends hikers consider the following tips before hitting any trails: Make a copy of your itinerary to give to a family member or a friend. Make sure that someone close to you knows where you are and how long you will be gone. Wear a good pair of hiking boots or strong athletic shoes. The right shoes will keep you safe, warm, and comfortable. Prepare for various types of weather conditions. Check the forecast before you leave; take along sunglasses and extra clothing (e.g., a hat and /or a jacket for a day hike). Pack plenty of food and water. Consider how long your hike will be and pack accordingly. Pack basic and essential supplies. Bring a first-aid kit(急救箱), a flashlight, a pocket knife, a map of the area (if available), and a compass. You may need other supplies, such as matches, depending on the length of your hike. Determine what time the sun sets. This information is available in most local newspapers. Most people become lost after nightfall, so it is important to know this information in advance. Stay on properly marked trails. Stay on established trails to decrease the chances of becoming lost. Staying on established trails also lowers the risk of doing harm to rare and endangered plants. Carry a whistle. Using a loud whistle is a good way to call attention to your location if you get lost. Keep an eye out for wildlife. Do not approach animals in the wild, even if they seem friendly. The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission (WSPRC) manages a diverse system of more than 120 parks. The 90-year-old park system, which receives nearly 48 million visits a year, ranks 4th nationally in day-use attendance, 10th in overnight attendance, and the WSPRC has a smaller budget(预算) than most states. 25. The underlined word “itinerary” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________. A. a goal B. an address C. a phone book D. a travel plan 26. According to the text, hikers are advised __________. A. to bring friendly animals home B. to use loud whistles C. to set up camps D. to take new trails 27. What can we learn about WSPRC? A. It’s only accessible during summer months. B. It’s operated very well. C. It provides trails and wildlife protection. D. It provides search and rescue services. 28. The purpose of the text is to _______. A. attract people’s interest in the park B. explain the hiking routes C. explain how to be safe when hiking D. introduce various kinds of parks to visitors C When there are some strangers in front of us, which of them will we trust? According to a new study in the online PLOS One, people make their decisions to trust others largely based on their faces. Your appearance can do a lot for you, especially if you are in the financial(金融) industry. The more trustworthy(可信的) you look, the more likely people will buy what you’re selling. Researchers from Britain’s University of Warwick Business School, University College London, and Dartmouth College, US, did a number of experiments. The research team used computer software to make 40 faces, from the least to the most trustworthy-looking. The study said that the difference between a trustworthy face and one that isn’t as trustworthy comes from features that look slightly angry or slightly happy, even when the face is at rest. However, a slightly happy face is more likely to be trusted. Researchers gave participants some money and asked them which face they trusted to invest(投资) the money. Then researchers gave some good and bad information about the people with these faces, and asked the participants(参与者) again whom they trusted. The results showed that even if they got different information, the participants didn’t change their choices. They were still more likely to invest their money with the more trustworthy-looking faces. Chris Olivola, one of the study’s authors, said in the University of Warwick’s press release: “It seems that we are still willing to go with our own instincts (本能) about whether we think someone looks like we can trust them. The temptation (诱惑) to judge strangers by their faces is hard to resist.” 33. According to the study, which of the following faces is most likely to be trusted? A. A sad face. B. An angry face. C. A crying face. D. A smiling face. 34. Which of the following about the experiment is TRUE? A. The trustworthy faces were given good information. B. Researchers took photos of the 40 people’s faces in college. C. Participants liked to choose the faces with good information. D. Most participants gave their money to the trustworthy-looking faces. 35. What did the researchers learn from their experiment? A. People can’t refuse temptations. B. People often judge strangers by their faces. C. People do things with their instincts all the time. D. People don’t trust strangers with sad faces. D Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment. Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas. There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control. Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free. 32. Which of the following is the author most probably in favor of? A. Cycling around a lake. B. Motor racing in the desert. C. Playing basketball in a gym. D. Swimming in a sports center. 33. What do we know about golf from the passage? A. It is popular in Portugal and Spain. B. It causes water shortages around the world. C. It pollutes the earth with chemicals and wastes. D. It needs water and electricity to keep its courses green. 34. The author uses power walking as an example mainly because _________. A. it is an outdoor sport B. it improves our health C. it uses fewer resources D. it is recommended by experts 35. The author writes the passage to _________. A. show us the function of major sports B. encourage us to go in for green sports C. discuss the major influence of popular sports D. introduce different types of environment-friendly sports 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 We all have one, don’t we? A friend who’s always late. The one who turns up for coffee a full half hour after the appointed time. 36 . The dear pal(朋友) who sends a message saying “Sorry, bit delayed.”, when they’re already 20 minutes behind schedule. Or just maybe, if you’re really honest, this persistently tardy (拖延的) individual is actually you yourself. 37 . How on earth can people be so inconsiderate? Recent research suggests that there might be more to this than simple rudeness. Psychologists from Washington University believe people view time differently. 38 . It even provided them with a clock. Despite this, some people became so absorbed in the activity that they completely forgot to check the clock. 39 . The less punctual(守时的) among us often share characteristics such as “optimism, low levels of self-control, anxiety.” Why optimism, you ask? Optimists tend to overestimate(高估) how much they can achieve and underestimate(低估) problems, which means they don’t account for the long traffic jam on the way to meet you for that coffee. Here’s another thought: maybe language is to blame? The English phrase “to be fashionably late” is used to describe the proper time to arrive at an event. If you’re too early, you can appear overly eager, but if you’re a bit late, you seem cool and sophisticated (老练的). The problem is, what one person regards as fashionably late, another may view as plain impolite. 40 . A. Our personality also plays a role B. Keep a distance from those full of excuses(借口) C. Next time you have coffee, do try to be on time D. The one who seems to be forever “stuck in traffic” E. Either way, lateness can be extremely annoying(令人讨厌的) to the receiving end F. Participants(参与者) were required to set down how long they finished a task G. Their study gave participants a specific amount of time to complete a task 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项中,选出可以填人空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 We humans love to make comparisons(比较).
