The Circle B Some colors people see late at night could cause signs of clinical depression. That was the finding of a study that builds on earlier study findings. They show that individuals who live or work in low levels of light overnight can develop clinical depression. Doctors use the word “clinical depression” to describe severe form of depression. Signs may include loss of interest or pleasure in most activities, low energy levels and thoughts of death or suicide.‎ In the new study, American investigators designed an experiment that exposed hamsters(仓鼠)to different colors. The researchers chose hamsters because they are nocturnal, which means they sleep during the day and are active at night.‎ The animals were separated into four groups. One group of hamsters was kept in the dark during their night-time period. Another group was placed in front of a blue light, a third group slept in front of a white light, while a fourth was put in front of a red light.‎ After four weeks, the researchers noted how much sugary water the hamsters drank. They found that the most depressed animals drank the least amount of water.‎ Randy Nelson heads the Department of Neuroscience at Ohio State University. He says animals that slept in blue and white light appeared to be the most depressed. “What we saw is that these animals didn’t show any sleep uneasiness at all but they did mess up biological clock genes and they did show depressive sign while if they were in the dim(微弱)red light, they did not.”‎ Randy Nelson notes that photosensitive(感光)cells in the eyes have little to do with ‎ eyesight. He says these cells send signals to the area of the brain that controls what has been called the natural sleep-wake cycle.‎ He says there’s a lot of blue in white light. This explains why the blue light and white light hamsters appear to be more depressed than the hamsters seeing red light or darkness.‎ ‎25.Researchers use hamsters in the experiment because __________.‎ A.they are similar to humans in dealing with colors B.they are easy to observe and study C.they are sensitive to colors like human beings D.they are active at night and sleep during the day ‎26.What sign shows that the hamsters are being depressed?‎ A.They drink less sugary water.‎ B.They don’t sleep well.‎ C.Their eyesight becomes worse.‎ D.Their energy level becomes low.‎ ‎27.__________ tends to cause hamsters to be depressed.‎ A.Dim light B.Red light C.Blue light D.Darkness ‎28.What can help people who work late at night to avoid being depressed?‎ A.Not being exposed to dim red light when using computers.‎ B.Equipping their computer screens to put it more in the reddish light.‎ C.Living or working in low levels of light overnight.‎ D.Going to see doctors of clinical depression regularly for help.‎ C Sure, it's good to get along with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant.‎ And yes, it's good to get along with your teacher because, in general, it's smart to learn how to relate to the different types of people you'll meet throughout your life.‎ But really, there's one super-important reason why you should get along with your teacher. When you do, "learning bursts right open," says Evelyn Vuko, a longtime teacher who writes an education column called “Teacher Says” for the Washington Post Newspaper.‎ In fact, kids who get along with their teachers not only learn more, but they're more comfortable asking questions and getting extra help. This makes it easier to understand new material and do your best on tests. When you have this kind of relationship with a teacher, he or she can be someone to turn to with problems , such as problems with learning or school issues, such as bullying(欺负人).‎ As a kid in a primary or middle school, you're at a wonderful stage in your life. You're like a sponge(海绵), able to soak up lots of new and exciting information. On top of that, you're able to think about all this information in new ways. Your teacher knows that, and in most cases, is very excited to be the person who's giving you all that material and helping you put it together. Remember, teachers are people, too, and they feel great if you're open to what they're teaching you. That's why they wanted to be teachers in the first place—to teach!‎ Some kids may be able to learn in any situation, whether they like the teacher or not. But most kids are sensitive to the way they get along with the teacher, and if things aren't going well, they won't learn as well and won't enjoy being in class.‎ ‎29. You find it comfortable to ask questions, so you can build a good relationship with teachers.‎ C. You have a good relationship with your teacher, so you can turn to him/her when in trouble.‎ D. Having a bad relationship with your teachers does more or less harm to your studies.‎ ‎ D Market research has been done to see if people would accept meat from either cloned animals or the offspring (后代) of clones.A study done by the International Food Information Council in 2007 asked US respondents (调查对象) if they would buy meat, milk, and eggs from cloned animals.‎ Of the respondents, 10%would be “very likely”, 36% would be “somewhat likely”, while 28%would be “not too likely” and a quarter “not at all likely”.The respondents were slightly more favourable when asked the same question about the offspring of cloned animals.‎ In the US,the hormone(激素) rBST is given to cows to increase milk production. In the EU and a number of other places such hormone treatment is banned. But even in the US,milk and meat is often labelled (贴标签)as rBST hormone free.‎ The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)is not requiring labelling for meat from cloned animals or offspring of clones because its position (态度)is that there is no scientific difference between that and noncloned meat.It has said it will permit voluntary labelling.‎ And despite the scientific evidence it gave, there are still plenty of critics against its position on cloned meat. After the 2008 guidance was published, Senator Barbara Mikulski said,“The FDA has acted recklessly and I am very disappointed in their rush to allow cloned foods.Just because something created in a lab doesn't mean we should have to eat it.If we discover a problem with cloned food after it is in our food supply and it's not labelled, the FDA won't be able to recall(召回) it.”‎ ‎33.What's the aim of the International Food Information Council's study?‎ A.To prove cloned foods are safe.‎ B.To persuade people to eat cloned foods.‎ C.To find the possible bad effects of cloned foods.‎ D.To know people's attitudes towards cloned foods.‎ ‎34.The underlined word “recklessly” in Paragraph 5 is closest in meaning to “________”.‎ A.carelessly B.formally C.effectively D.uselessly ‎35.According to Senator Barbara Mikulski,________.‎ A.cloning animals is illegal B.cloned foods should be labelled C.cloned foods should be forbidden D.cloned foods have health problems 第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Although problems are a part of our lives, it certainly doesn’t mean that we let them rule our lives forever.
