Peterson is a famous psychologist,所以选项B和D不正确。 B The internet isn't always a happy place. But there are groups trying to change that. Kuakuaqun, or “praising group” on Wechat, in which people send out compliments and positive messages, are becoming popular among university students in China. Praising groups have been founded by students from several universities, such as Fudan University, Communication University of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. People can even buy memberships of such groups on online platforms like Taobao. Once admitted, they make complimentary comments about each other and even ask to be complimented on particular things. The praising groups come at a time when the mental health of young Chinese is getting attention. As young Chinese seek company and confidence, the praising groups meet a lot of psychological needs. “The group allows me to see the good qualities in myself that I often overlook and look at the bright side of everything. Kindness from strangers can help me feel much better,” Tian Jiayin, 22, told China Daily. The popularity of chat groups is also a reflection of Chinese culture, reported Global Times. As many young Chinese are raised to be modest, it’s uncommon for them to openly seek and give praise. As a result, they desire compliments as they grow up. “If the kids got more praise from parents and teachers, their desire for praise wouldn't be so strong,” said Dai Ji, a psychologist from Hunan University of Commerce. But Chen Kan, a psychologist from Fudan University, warned that members of praising groups should be cautious about giving or receiving praise. “The biggest risk is the constant emphasis on the ‘false self’, which makes it harder to see the ‘true self’,” she said. 4. What does the underlined word “compliments” in Paragraph 1 mean? A. praises B. questions C. advice D. information 5. Why do many Chinese university students like Kuakuaqun? A. It gives them a discount on Taobao. B. It helps them with their studies. C. It makes them feel confident. D. It helps them make new friends. 6. What does Chen Kan think of giving or receiving praise? A. Receiving praise is more helpful than being modest. B. Parents and teachers should give young people more praise. C. kids should be encouraged to openly seek and give praise. D. Too much praise might stop kids from seeing their true selves. 7. What is the main idea of the article? A. Tips for getting motivated B. The “lost” generation in China C. Origin of the praising culture in China D. Advantages and disadvantages of Kuakuaqun 【答案】4. A 5. C 6. D 7. 根据第二段 “Kuakuaqun, or praising groups on We Chat, in which people send out compliments and positive messages…” A. praises表扬;B. questions问题; C. advice建议;D. information信息。 故选A。 根据第六段中“As young Chinese seek company and confidence, the praising groups meet a lot of psychological(心理的)needs”可知,很多大学生喜欢夸夸群是因为夸夸群满足了大量心理的需求,即让他们自信点,故选C。 根据倒数第二段 “the biggest risk is the constant(不断的) emphasis(强调) on the ‘false self’, which makes it harder to see ‘the true self’ she said.” D。 C Former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill once said, “The British are the only people who like to be told how bad things are.” This is definitely true of British comedy. Most people think humor is about happy things, but for the British, the opposite is true. We love to use our sense of humor to complain and be negative. British comedy, for example, draws a fine line between comedy and tragedy. BBC’s The Office is a TV show, famous for its dry humor. The main character, David Brent, is a foolish man, and the show's comedy comes from his delusions. For example, he often tells himself that he is loved by everyone but the viewer can see that everyone hates him. Stupid characters for the audience to laugh at are an old tradition in Britain. In Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night, the character Malvolio is an old man whom people play tricks on. The audience will laugh away, although the reality is that this man is a truly tragic individual. This side of British humor is reflected in friendships as well. At university, my friends and I would always laugh at one another. I had an American friend who actually found this sarcasm(挖苦)quite upsetting. She didn't realize that in Britain, the better friends you are with someone, the more you laugh at them. This approach—laughing at everything—may sound rather depressing, but our strange humor played a big part in British history. In the second World War, along with a stiff upper lip, the British got through it by laughing. What else was there to do? There is a saying in English: “Laugh and the world laughs with you; cry and you cry alone.” If you are ever on the receiving end of British sarcasm, you may feel like crying, but it's best to just laugh it off! 8. How is British comedy different from other types? A. It is often surprising and boring . B. It often laughs at human nature. C. It is often about the bad things in life . D. It often makes people feel depressed. 9. What does the underlined word “delusion” in paragraph 2 mean? A. strong abilities B. fun characters C. wrong beliefs D. deep doubt 10. Why is Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night mentioned in the article? A. To show one of the best examples of British comedy. B. To explain how Shakespeare's comedy is different from others'. C. To show how difficult it is to make people accept British comedy. D. To prove Britain has a long tradition of laughing at stupid characters. 11. How does the author advise people to react to British sarcasm? A. Learn from it. B. Don't take it seriously. C. Forget about the upsetting things. D. Be careful not to make stupid mistakes. C 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第一段中“The British are the only people who want to be told how bad things are”和“Most people think humor is about happy things, but for the British, the opposite is true”可知,英国的幽默常常不是关于好事情的,而是关于坏事情的。 根据下文中 “For example, he often tells himself that he is loved by everyone, the viewers can see that everyone hates him”可判断,delusions是错觉、错误的看法。 根据第三段中“Stupid characters for the audience to laugh at are an old tradition in Britain”,然后以 Twelfth Night为例说明英国嘲笑愚蠢的人有很久的传统,故选D。 根据文中最后一句话 its best to just laugh it off可知,作者的建议是一笑置之,不要太当真,故选B。 本文中根据“For example, he often tells himself that he is loved by everyone, the viewers can see that everyone hates him”可判断,delusions是错觉、错误的看法。故选C。 D Parrots have been known to mimic words, but have you ever thought how they communicate? The sounds they make may sound meaningless to us, but new research has found that wild parrots are actually given names by their parents. According to a study led by Karl Berg of Cornell University in the US, nestlings (雏鸟) are given a unique sound of their own, which stays with them for their entire lives. In the study the team placed hidden cameras in the nests of 17 different wild parrots. After studying their sounds, the team found slight differences in the calls parents used to communicate with each chick. And even before the nestlings had learned to communicate properly, the baby birds seemed to recognize and mimic their calls. Sounds very similar to humans, doesn't it? The study also proved that these signature calls are acquired socially not genetically. To do this, scientists switched the eggs in nine of the 17 nests, so that half of the parrots were raising nestlings that were not theirs. Using the recordings, the scientists concluded the nestlings all used names similar to those the parents (whether biological or nonbiological) called them for the first weeks of their lives. Lucie McNeil, from National Geographic, said, “this would be the first proven example of a non- human species teaching acoustical(声学的)communication.” Lead scientist for the study, Karl Berg told National Public Radio of the US, “Most people say, ‘Well, all those calls are just noise’, but I think they're having conversations.” When asked what else the parrots might be saying, Berg replied, “The theory is that these birds are deciding where the food is.” “Do we want to go 3 km North-northwest?” “Do we want to go to that field?’ They are sort of arguing or discussing.” Natural science author, Virginia Morell wrote: “Very gradually, scientists are learning to understand the conversations of very different animals that live lives rich with plans, quarrels and romance.” You never know, if the science of animal translation keeps advancing, we might one day be watching a reality series about parrots. 12. What did the new research find about wild parrots? A. They can talk by learning from people. B. The sounds they make are meaningless. C. They have names given by their parents. D. They have a unique way of making sounds. 13. Which of the following may the scientists agree with? A. Different parrots are called differently by their parents. B. Baby parrots can tell who their biological parents are. C. Baby parrots can mimic their biological parents' calls better. D. Parrots are the most skilled animals in acoustical communication. 14. Why did the scientists switch the eggs in the study? A. To see whether the parents could recognize their own babies. B. To see whether the parrots made the same sounds all their lives. C. To see whether the signature calls were acquired socially or genetically. D. To see whether biological and nonbiological parents named babies differently. 15. Which of the following is the best title of the passage? A. A new research in the US B. Parrots can really talk C. Conversations of animals D. Parrots make meaningless sounds 【答案】12. C 13. A 14. C 15. 根据第一段中 “The sounds they make may sound meaningless to us,but new research has found that wild parrots are actually given names by their parents.” 根据第三段中“After studying their sounds, the team found slight differences in the calls parents used to communicate with each chick.” 根据文中第五段“The study also proved that these signature calls are acquired socially not genetically(基因上地). To do this, scientists switched the eggs in nine of the 17 nests”可知,科学家们把鹦鹉蛋换了巢穴是想证明这些标志性的叫声是社会性的,而不是遗传性的。“to do this”这里是用不定式短语表目的。 In the networked world, it's very difficult to talk to Chinese people without using emojis(表情符号). However, did you know that people in different age groups have totally different preferences for choosing their emojis? The result is based on a report released by Tencent's WeChat, on its official weibo account on Wednesday. According to the report, for users who were born in the 2000s, their favorite WeChat emoji would probably be the widely used “facepalm”. ____16____They also may be a night owl without much sleep, while iced beverages and desserts are their cup of tea. For China's post-90s WeChat users, ____17____, and the emoji “face with tears of joy” may rule their online social life. And if you were born in the 1980s, your tastes have remained the same. ____18____ And “grin” is your emoji of the year. ___19___They like to use the emoji “chuckle(咯咯笑)” and go through their moments frequently every day. Users over 55 are the early-bird group with rich entertainment activities in WeChat, such as looking through moments, reading and shopping. ___20___ Since the release of the report, some online users believe that their chat data has been used for big-data analysis. But others are asking where they can attain their own personalized WeChat usage reports. A. WeChat is China's most popular messaging app. B. You are still fond of reading news on national affairs. C. They like to cheer up others, so their favorite emoji is “giving a thumbs-up”. D. they are likely to get up later in the morning compared with other groups E. It is well known that most people tend to use emojis when chatting. F. It’s said that the “facepalm” emoji is based on the famous movie star Stephen Chow. G. WeChat users born in the 1970s are called the optimistic group. F 17. D 18. B 19. G 20. 选项B中的“You”与空格前的your前后呼应,且选项B中的still与空格前的remained the same意义一致。 所以选项G中的“WeChat users born in the 1970s”与上下文篇章结构一致。 选项C中so their favorite emoji is “giving a thumbs-up”符合语境。 My husband and I only have one car.
