I had in my hand a sheet of paper with handwritten instructions on it for some sort of editorial task.It occurred at first that I did not recognize the handwriting, and then I realized whose it must be. I finally became aware of the fact that I had been working with this colleague for at least a year, maybe two,and yet I did not recognize her handwriting at that point. It was a very important event in the computerization of life - a sign that the informal friendly communication of people working together in an office had changed from notes in pen to instant messages and emails. There was a time when our workdays were filled with little letters, and we recognized one another's handwriting the way we knew voices or faces. As a child visiting my father’s office, I was pleased to recognize, in little notes on the desks of his staff, the same handwriting I would see at home in the notes he would leave on the fridge -except that those notes were signed “dad” instead of “RFW”. All this has been on my mind because of the talk about The Rise and Fall of Handwriting, a book by Florey. She shows in her book a deep concern about the fall of handwriting and the failure of schools to teach children to write well, but many others argue that people in a digital age can’t be expected to learn to hold a pen. I don’t buy it. I don’t want to see anyone cut off from the expressive, personal associations that a pen still promotes better than a digital keyboard does. For many a biographer, part of really getting to know their subjects is learning to read their handwriting.[] What some people advocate is teaching one of the many attractive handwritings based on the handwriting of 16th century Italy. That may sound impossibly grand—as if they want kids to learn to draw by copying classical paintings. However, they have worked in many school systems. 21. Why was the author surprised at not recognizing his colleague’s handwriting? A. He had worked with his colleague long enough. B. His colleague’s handwriting was so beautiful. C. His colleague’s handwriting was so terrible. D. He still had a lot of work to do. 22. People working together in an office used to _________. A. talk more about handwriting B. know better one another's handwriting C. take more notes on workdays D. communicate better with one another 23. The author’s father wrote notes in pen _________. A. to his staff on the desk B. to his family in small letters C. to his family on the fridge D. to both his family and his staff 24. According to the author, handwritten notes _________. A. carry more message B. attract more attention C. are used only between friends D. are harder to teach in schools 25. We can learn from the passage that the author _________. A. thinks it impossible to teach handwriting B. puts the blame on the computer C. does not want to lose handwriting D. does not agree with Florey 【B】 Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t love others until you love yourself. Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t expect someone else to love you until you love yourself. Either way, you’ve got to love yourself first and this can be tricky. Sure we all know that we’re the apple of our parents’ eyes, and that our Grandmas think we’re great talents and our Uncle Roberts think that we will go to the Olympics, but sometimes it’s a lot harder to think such nice thoughts about ourselves. If you find that believing in yourself is a challenge, it is time you build a positive self-image and learn to love yourself. Self-image is your own mind’s picture of yourself. This image includes the way you look, the way you act, the way you talk and the way you think. Interestingly, our self-images are often quite different from the images others hold about us. Unfortunately, most of these images are more negative than they should be. Thus changing the way you think about yourself is the key to changing your self-image and your whole world. The best way to defeat a passive self-image is to step back and decide to stress your successes. That is, make a list if you need to, but write down all of the great things you do every day. Don’t allow doubts to occur in it. It very well might be that you are experiencing a negative self-image because you can’t move past one flaw or weakness that you see about yourself. Well, roll up your sleeves and make a change of it as your primary task. If you think you’re silly because you aren’t good at math, find a tutor. If you think you’re weak because you can’t run a mile, get to the track and practice. If you think you’re dull because you don’t wear the latest trends, buy a few new clothes. But remember, just because you think it doesn’t mean it’s true. The best way to get rid of a negative self-image is to realize that your image is far from objective, and to actively convince yourself of your positive qualities. Changing the way you think and working on those you need to improve will go a long way towards promoting a positive self-image. When you can pat yourself on the back, you’ll know you’re well on your way. Good luck! 26. You need to build a positive self-image when you __________. A. dare to challenge yourself B. feel it hard to change yourself C. have a high opinion of yourself D. are unconfident about yourself 27. According to the passage, our self-images ___________. A. are often changeable B. are probably untrue C. have positive effects D. have different functions 28. How should you change your self-image according to the passage? A. To change the way you think. B. To make your life successful. C. To understand your own world. D. To keep a different image of others. 29. What is the passage mainly about? A. How to prepare for your success. B. How to build a positive self-image. C. How to face challenges in you life. D. How to develop your good qualities. 30. Who are the intended readers of the passage? A. Parents. B. Adolescents C. People in general. D. Educators.[] 【C】 The World Health Organization, the WHO, says the disease Ebola is spreading in West Africa. The situation frightens both local citizens and travelers. There is no vaccine(疫苗) or special treatment. And the fatality(致命) rate is very high. That rate represents the number of people who get sick from Ebola and then die. Ebola can kill up to 90 percent of those infected. It is difficult to stop Ebola from spreading. It moves easily from person to person. The disease strikes its victims through direct contact with the blood or other liquid from the body of an infected person. For that reason Ebola patients must be kept away from other people. The bodies of victims still contain the virus days after they die. Local traditions and burial customs also make the sickness hard to control. Doctors say it is important to identify an Ebola case early to prevent others from becoming infected. Patients suffer from high body temperature, bleeding and so on. Only a few prevention measures exist. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US, the CDC, and the WHO suggest staying away from countries with confirmed(被证实的) Ebola cases. People at increased threat include those working in animal research, health care workers and others caring for patients in the community. As of July 15, 2014, the WHO says Ebola killed 68 people in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, the three countries where the disease has been confirmed. A patient in Ghana was suspected of having Ebola, but tests did not show the sickness. Ghanaian observers say the man has since died from unknown causes. The victim was an American citizen. In the past, cases of Ebola have been confirmed in the Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Sudan, and Uganda. Doctors advise careful protective measures if you must go to an area where Ebola exists. Wash your hands often. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer(消毒杀菌剂)—or cleaner —containing at least 60 percent alcohol. Avoid eating monkeys or other wild meat. Stay away from mines and places where bats and other rodents may live. If Ebola has been identified directly around you, the CDC and WHO strongly suggest wearing protective clothing. Cover your face and hands. Goggles(护目镜) can help protect the eyes. Try to remove Ebola germs (细菌) with cleaners that fight infection. 31. Ebola spreads through _________. A. the air that infected people breathe out B. body touch with infected people C. the blood or other liquid from infected people D. objects that infected people have touched 32. According to the passage, Ebola is difficult to control partly because of _________. A. the lack of medical equipment B. local burial tradition C. difficult processes of confirming D. local people’s poor living conditions 33. In countries with confirmed Ebola cases, people should keep away from people ________. A. living in the community B. working in research centers C. traveling in Africa D. providing health care 34. The last paragraph talks about ________. A. measures to protect against Ebola B. cleaners used to test Ebola virus C. processes of confirming Ebola D. ways to research Ebola germs in animals 35. What might be the best title for the passage? A. The Origin of Ebola Virus B. The Vaccine Against Ebola Is on the Way C. Ebola’s Influence Is Increasing D. But has the world changed? Maybe what was morally right in the old days, 29 one knew exactly who in the village had suffered misfortune and needed help, is no longer the best idea. Quite a few people will not give money to beggars. Let us look at their 30 . First, some believe that many city beggars dress up 31 to look pitiable and actually make a good 32 from begging. Giving money to beggars only encourages this sort of evil. 33 , there is the worry that the money you give will be spent on beer, wine or drugs. Thirdly, there is the opinion 34 there is no real excuse for begging. One might be poor, but that is no reason for losing one’s sense of 35 and self-dependence. Related to this is the opinion that the problem should be handled by the government 36 ordinary people. Some people think beggars should go to the local government department and 37 help. It was fantastic! The exhibition displayed a variety of art collections from many parts of the world, ranging from ancient times to modern times. And there were all kinds of masterpieces, which were different in style, such as realistic paintings, abstract paintings and impressionist painting. But I found some of them difficult to understand. Also, the museum itself is so delicate that I felt as if I were inside a white seashell. Though the admission price was high, I think the exhibition was well worth a visit. Wish you could come and have a look. Yours, Li Hua 附:听力录音稿 Text 1 W: Why does Mary have such a long face today? I thought she would have been happy over her promotion. W: Sure, go ahead. Text 4 M: I’d like to cash this check, please. Here is my identification card. W: All right. How would you like it? M: 10 hundreds, 20 tens and the rest in small change please. Have a pleasant day! M: Thank you. Bye. Text 7 W: You look tired. Didn’t you get enough sleep last night? M: No. I had a bunch of friends over and we partied until midnight. But I don’t think I can keep my eyes open long enough to drive home. W: Don’t worry. I’ll give you a ride home. Text 8 W: 889-3447. Dr. Carter’s office. M: Good morning. I am Ronald Brown. Let’s try looking at the advertisements in the newspapers first. Text 10 M: The national park we will visit is located in the desert just north of our city. Like any hike of this nature, you should be prepared for the adventure in the desert. First, hike with a partner for safety and have word where you will be travelling in case of an emergency. Second, carry a cell phone with you. However, keep in mind that you might not get any signal, so don’t depend on it. Third, be sure to have the right clothing and shoes or boots for the hike. Light, breathable clothing is best during the summer, along with a hat and strong hiking shoes. Fourth, carry plenty of water. Having a few snacks can give you energy, too. Fifth, take a set of tools and equipment for first aid with you, particularly on longer hikes in case you get injured. Sixth, pack a detailed map of the area you are hiking, along with a compass or a GPS to locate your position. You might need them to navigate through unfamiliar places. And finally, take nothing home with you except pictures and memories. You can protect these areas by leaving all rocks, flowers, and other objects for future visitors.查看更多
