Text 3 M:Excuse me. Is there a bank near here? W:Sure. Walk along this road, Park Road, turn left at the end and look for the bank on the right side of Walnut Street just before Cherry Lane. Text 4 W:That is really something! I've never seen colors like that before. I wonder what kind of camera he used. M: I think it has to do with something sort of like the types of paint a painter would use. Text 5 W:Jack, is that really you? What are you doing here? M:I'm here picking up a friend. Do you still remember James? His flight will land soon. W:James? The guy with long black hair? M:Yes. But he wears short hair now. And he's changed its color to blonde. Text 6 W:Excuse me. I'm sorry, but there's something wrong with my meal. M:What seems to be the problem, ma'am? W:Well, first of all, the soup is cold and the fish has a strange taste. M:I'm sorry about that. I'll take it back to the kitchen. W:The beans are undercooked too. M:Would you like to order something else? This time I will ask the cook to do your food. W:Yes, please. Could I see the menu? M:Certainly. Text 7 W:Adam, I heard you're taking a trip to Australia. Are you going there to visit some friends? M:No. I'm going there to take a holiday with my family. W:In this case, why not go to the Woodford Folk Festival with your son? It'll take place from December 27 to January 1. It's one of the oldest festivals in Australia, and it's also one of the most kidfriendly festivals in the country. M:That sounds like a good idea. So have you ever been to the festival? W:Yes. I went there with Jim last year. He had a great time there. M:Then I'll go there with my family during our stay there. Thanks, Lisa. Text 8 W:Do you like reading Chinese Tang poems when you were little? M:Yes, When I was young, I liked reading Chinese Tang poems very much. W:So what Chinese Tang poem did you learn first? M:It was Spring Morning by Meng Haoran. I learned it when I was just five years old. It was almost twentyfive years ago. W:Did you like the poem when you first read it? M:Yes. Though I didn't really understand the poem, I liked it because it was short and sounded good. Do you like Chinese Tang poems? W:Well, I'm very interested in Chinese culture. I want to learn some Tang poems, but they're too hard for me. My Chinese isn't that good, you know. I can't remember them well. M:Well, I can tell you what they mean, if you like. I can also send you a book about poems. W:Oh, that'd be great. Thanks. Text 9 W:Happy birthday, Steve. Did you get lots of presents? M:Thanks, Olga! Yes, I did. Mary gave me this brown jacket. It's lovely, isn't it? W:Yes, it is. Did Harry buy you anything? M:Something very expensive, a camera. I must get film for it. W:Oh, wow — that's very nice! And that purple sweater you're wearing. That's new. M:Yes, Nancy gave it to me. I love this color. W:It looks really good on you. M:And look at this — Thomas knows I love travel films, so he bought me a video about Africa. Now I want to go and get a book on Africa, too. W:What about Victoria? I saw her looking at some big boxes of chocolates yesterday. M:Oh, she just gave me a black pen. I wish she'd given me the chocolates — I've already got lots of pens. W:I suppose James gave you a book, as usual. M:Well, not this year. He bought me some purple socks. They actually match my new white sweater. W:Ha ha! That was a lucky choice! Text 10 Now, listen, everyone. Before we get started on our lesson today I've got an announcement. It's run by a young people's Internet magazine and they're inviting you to design something for their magazine. Some of you took part last year, didn't you? I remember some of you designed a poster or a pen. Well, this time they're asking you for something different — a Tshirt. It can be in color or black and white. You can put some words on it. The only thing is, it must have a picture somewhere on it. You must include that in your design. Now, if you want to enter the competition, you need to get organized. They will be announcing who's won on May 27th, so your designs must get to them by the 12th. That gives them two weeks to look through all your work. If you are one of the winners, you'll get a drawing book. If we have five prizewinning designs, as an art school, we'll get a DVD player. Here are books on design for you to turn to. On June 25, 2018, he took home the top prize at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (全美高中生音乐剧奖) at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre. Also known as the Jimmy Awards, the awards were named to remember James M. Nederlander, a theater owner and Broadway producer who died in 2016. Feldman won the award for Best Performance by an Actor for playing Frank Abagnale Jr. in LWA's production of “Catch Me If You Can.” He and Reneé Rapp each received a $10,000 scholarship. Rapp from Charlotte, North Carolina, is the winner of the Best Performance by an Actress award. The other remaining seventyeight finalists received $3,000 scholarships. The finalists received a week of training at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts (TSOA) before the awards event. Instructors from Broadway taught them basic skills of performing arts. Feldman also won the Carnegie Mellon PreCollege Scholarship. Carnegie Mellon University, based in Pittsburgh, was founded in 1900 by Andrew Carnegie. Feldman received an additional $7,500 to attend the university's sixweek summer play program. He has been a Broadway lover since seeing “Beauty and the Beast” when he was young. And then he performed in his first play, a production of “Annie,” at eight. The shock of winning has still not disappeared. “Winning the Jimmy Award is not something I even imagined,” Feldman said. “I didn't think it could actually happen! It's now been about a week and a half and I still don't believe it.” In 2014, Feldman created a theater company called Zneefrock Productions. The company is run totally by teens. It was set up to raise money for NEXT for Autism, an organization helping to support autism programs. 【语篇解读】 本文是记叙文。Andrew Feldman获得了2018年度全美高中生音乐剧奖的最佳表演奖。 24.What did Feldman do during the week before June 25? In fact, she wasn't even awake when it happened. No, this isn't the beginning of a ghost (鬼) story and Casey, 31, wasn't mad. She was sleeptexting, and she's not alone, according to researchers. There are a growing number of sleeptexters who send text messages while asleep. They are usually teens and young people. Dr. Michael Gelb, who is studying why people sleeptext at New York University, says that stress (压力) level, quality of sleep, or something else all might result in sending a sleeptext. Alex Thielen, 22, is one of many sleeptexters who regret sending private messages to wrong people. She reports what happened before she sleeptexted one night. “It happened about one month into starting my first fulltime job, so you could say I was very stressed out. I was still getting used to my sleep schedule because I wasn't used to getting up early every day for work. That night, I was very stressed out and had friends over to give me advice,” she says. “So, I was really worried when I sleeptexted.” For most sleeptexters, treatment is a matter of lifestyle choices. Gelb suggests shutting down all electronic devices (设备) at least 30 minutes before bed. And it also helps if you don't fall asleep with your phone close by, he says. That's easier said than done, however, for most young sleeptexters. “The phone is influencing young people. They grew up with texting and with Facebook and they're checking their phones every two minutes during the day,” Gelb explains. “It's a part of their lives.” The friend Casey mistakenly texted happens to be a doctor. She also suggested the treatment for Casey. “The person I texted did advise me to maybe not keep my phone that close when I slept, for fear that a more harmful sleeptext might be sent,” Casey explains. 【语篇解读】 本文是说明文。文章介绍了越来越常见的睡觉发信息的现象,这在年轻一代中最容易出现。 28.What can we learn about the message that Casey sent? A.It was the beginning of a ghost story. B.It was received by her relative. C.It was sent in her sleep. D.It was about sleeptexting. 答案与解析:C 细节理解题。由第一段中的she wasn't even awake when it happened可知,信息是Casey睡着的时候发的。 29.What may be the cause of Alex's sleeptexting? A.Deep sadness. B.Wrong medicine. C.Health problems. D.Too much worry. 答案与解析:D 推理判断题。由第五段Alex描述她误发短信的经过starting my first fulltime job... I was very stressed out... really worried when I sleeptexted可知,压力大使她非常焦虑,因而睡觉时发了短信。 30.What can we infer from Gelb's words in Paragraph 6? A.The phone encourages young people's growth. B.The phone changes the way young people think. C.It's difficult for young people to get into bed early. D.It's hard for sleeptexters to stay away from the phone. 答案与解析:D 推理判断题。倒数第二段提及了Gelb提出的解决睡觉发短信的治疗办法——至少在睡觉前三十分钟关闭一切电子设备或者睡觉时离手机远点。但由Gelb的进一步解释They grew up with texting and with Facebook and they're checking their phones every two minutes during the day可知,他认为让那些睡觉时发短信的人离手机远点说起来容易做起来难,因为手机已成为了他们生活的一部分。 31.What might be Gelb's attitude to that doctor's advice? A.He supports it. B.He disagrees with it. C.He is uninterested in it. D.He is doubtful about it. 答案与解析:A 推理判断题。结合倒数第二段Gelb给出针对睡觉发短信的治疗办法it also helps if you don't fall asleep with your phone close by和最后一段中医生朋友给Casey的建议maybe not keep my phone that close when I slept可知,Gelb应该会支持那位医生的建议。 D One afternoon about six years ago, I was entering my new school (Beaver Country Day School) and passing some middle school classrooms. I asked myself, “Every adult in the school sits in a chair that is on wheels. Why aren't student chairs on wheels?” If chairs on wheels are more comfortable for adults and make them more productive, it seems reasonable they would have the same influence on students. So, we ordered some for the middle school and the results were immediately satisfying. Teachers and students alike loved the new chairs. To increase flexibility (灵活性) in the room, we put all classroom furniture (家具) on wheels and made all the walls writeable with long whiteboards. All of this was easy to do, and not very expensive. The next question I asked myself was: if it's this easy, why don't schools pay more attention to learning environments? When new office buildings open, it is common for newspapers to review them and describe how they meet the needs of today's workers. However, classrooms are still the same as they were more than 100 years ago. Organizations like Steelcase and Gensler Architects have done indepth research on workspaces, and Steelcase has paid special attention to schools; they find that workspace and classroom design send powerful messages. When students enter a room with desks or tables in a row and a board at the front, the message is that today we will be on the receiving end of instruction. While with all chairs and tables on wheels and all walls writeable, the message is that today we are going to create something. As we build schools, let's think in fresh ways about the student experience. Let's give the same amount of researchdriven thought to the school environment as we do to our best work environments. Let's put thoughtful studentcentered design at the forefront of school design. Maybe then it will be worth the time to write reviews of exciting, new classroom environments. 【语篇解读】 本文是议论文。建造办公楼时,职员的需求会被考虑在内。作者认为建学校时,也应该将学生的需求考虑在内,改善学生的学习体验。 32.What happened to Beaver Country Day School about six years ago?
