Do you like to be treated with kindness? Why should you be kind? ‎ What if I told you that showing kindness is good for your heart, slows aging, improves relationships and enhances the joy of your life, and is a lot easier than exercising or changing your diet?‎ Thirty years ago when I began my business speaking career, writing an article on the benefits of kindness would have been dismissed as a soft topic. The hard questions would have been--how is being kind going to make our managers or sales team more motivated, efficient, creative and productive? How is being kind going to increase our bottom line?‎ In the past, the value of kindness was seriously overlooked. Now, advancements in recent research have revealed how the mind functions and what moves us to action. So the relevant question is: What really motivates, satisfies and fulfills? What tools can be used to help reduce the ever-increasing stress experienced by those who work in a group?‎ I’m glad to report with absolute certainty that “kindness” does have a major impact on health and productivity All that is required is a fundamental shift in our thinking Research suggests that giving to others makes us happy, even happier than spending on ourselves. Better yet, our kindness often creates a cycle that promotes lasting happiness and selflessness.‎ ‎ It's not just that happier people are kinder, or kinder people are happier. Studies show that engaging in a random act of kindness--even if you’re told by a researcher to do so--improves your happiness level.‎ I am strongly suggesting that--given the constant connectivity of our “plugged in” society and the overwhelming fear and uncertainty that exists in the world today,we should make people become aware that embracing soft issues, such as kindness and compassion, will have a positive influence on wellness and creativity and profits.‎ ‎24. What does the underlined word “dismissed” most probably mean?‎ A. Refused. B Recorded C. Discussed D. Admired ‎25. According to the author, in the past people cared about how kindness benefits_______.‎ A. happiness B. physical health ‎ C. efficiency in the workplace D. family and social harmony ‎26. Which of the following does the author agree with?‎ A. Kind people have greater success. ‎ B. Being kind can improve one’s wellbeing. ‎ C. Happier people are more likely to give to others. ‎ D. Showing kindness is better for ones health than exercising ‎27. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?‎ A. To report a new research. ‎ B. To share his personal experience. ‎ C. To encourage people to extend kindness. ‎ D. To introduce several ways to stay healthy.‎ C Want to see 16 sunrises in one day? Float in zero gravity? Be one of the few to have gazed upon our home planet from space? In just four years’ time, and for an astronomical $9.5 million dollars, it’s claimed you can.‎ What’s being billed as the world’s first luxury space hotel, Aurora Station, was announced Thursday at the Space 2.0 Summit in San Jose, California. Developed by US-based space technology start-up Orion Span, the fully modular space station will ‎ host six people at a time, including two crew members, for 12-day trips of space travel. It plans to welcome its first guests in 2022.‎ ‎“Our goal is to make space accessible to all,” Frank Bunger, CEO and founder of Orion Span, said in a statement. “Upon launch, Aurora Station goes into service immediately, bringing travelers into space quickly and at a lower price point than ever seen before.” While a $10 million trip is outside the budget of most people’s two-week vacations, Orion Span claims to offer a real astronaut experience.‎ During their 12-day adventure, the super-rich travelers will fly at a height of 200 miles above the Earth’s surface in Low Earth Orbit, or LEP, where they will see incredible views of the blue planet. The hotel will orbit Earth every 90 minutes, which means guests will see around 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours.‎ Activities on board include taking part in research experiments such as growing food while in orbit--which guests can take home for a super-smug souvenir—and soaring over their hometown. Guests can have live video chats with their less-fortunate loved ones back home via high-speed wireless Internet access and, upon return to Earth, will be greeted with a specially arranged hero’s welcome. While enjoying the thrills of zero gravity, the travelers will be able to float freely through the hotel, taking in views of the northern and southern Aurora from the station’s windows.‎ Deposits(定金) can be received through the website: https://www.orionspan.com/aurora-station-reservations. The $80,000 is fully returnable, should applicants find themselves unable to rise to the full $9.5 million. Travelers will complete a three-month Orion Span Astronaut Certification (OSAC) program before takeoff. Orion Span has a team of space industry experienced people who together have more than 140 years of human space experience.‎ ‎28. What’s the purpose of questions in Paragraph 1?‎ A. To ask questions about space travel.‎ B. To describe what you can do in space.‎ C. To arouse interest and introduce the topic.‎ D. To tell us scientific facts about space and planet.‎ ‎29. Which of the following is true according to the passage?‎ A. The luxury space hotel is designed specially for super-rich travelers.‎ B. A 3-month training program is unnecessary before space travel.‎ C. The space hotel will orbit the earth 16 times in total.‎ D. The space hotel can only host 4 guests at a time.‎ ‎30. You can do many activities in space such as ________.‎ A. taking incredible photos of the earth.‎ B. receiving warm greetings from people back on earth.‎ C .buying a souvenir for loved ones from the space store.‎ D. participating in research experiments and appreciating Aurora.‎ ‎31. Travelers can have their deposits back if ________.‎ A. they can not finish the Orion Span Astronaut Certification.‎ B. they are physically unfit for space travel.‎ C. they cannot hand in the full payment.‎ D. the space hotel is not ready in 2022.‎ D From July to October every year, about a quarter of the world’s blue whales feed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. But the whales currently face a major threat in their favorite feeding area. Ships carrying cargo (货物)sail in the same area at the same time. All too often, the whales’ paths and the ships’ travel lines overlap (重叠), and a ship will hit a whale.‎ According to a new study, these ship strikes have become a serious threat to the overall population of the world’s blue whales. Only about 10,000 of the creatures still exist worldwide. Blue whales are the largest known animals ever to live on Earth. Even so, if hit by a container ship, a blue whale will likely die from its injuries.‎ In 2007 alone, large ships killed five blue whales in the waters off San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says that because there are so few whales already, losing three to five from the California whale population every year is a significant loss. “The estimated population of blue whales in this part of the Pacific is 2,500”, says Sean Hastings, a NOAA analyst.‎ ‎ “So every whale counts toward this species moving off the endangered-species list.”‎ Now, marine scientists must figure out how to protect the whales from the giant container ships. One very simple program is already under way in the Santa Barbara Channel, a waterway that separates mainland California from the nearby Channel Islands.‎ The Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary has asked large container ships passing through the area to voluntarily slow down. Sailing slower will allow the ships‟ crew (船员)more time to change course before hitting a whale.‎ Several of the world’s largest shipping lines are set to participate in the new program. For every ship that passes through the Santa Barbara Channel at or below the reduced speed of 12 knots (海里/小时), the company that owns the ship will be paid $2,500.‎ ‎32. From Paragraph 1, we can know that_____.‎ A. people intend to illegally hunt blue whales for money B. large ships often carrying goods may pollute the sea C. the container ships may hit the blue whales frequently D. there is fewer fish in blue whales‟ favorite feeding area ‎33. Why is the death of several whales regarded as significant loss to the world's blue whales?‎ A. Because the number of the blue whales is so small.‎ B. Because other blue whales will be scared away.‎ C. Because blue whales are the largest animals in the world.‎ D. Because many blue whales get killed throughout the year.‎ ‎34. According to Sean Hastings, it’s inferred that .‎ A. the number of the blue whales is decreasing sharply.‎ B. the blue whales are still on the endangered-species list.‎ C. most of the world’s blue whales live in the Pacific Ocean.‎ D. blue whales are often disturbed by other endangered creatures.‎ ‎35. What are the last three paragraphs mainly about?‎ A. The basic responsibility of a sailor.‎ B. Measures to protect the blue whales.‎ C. The world’s largest shipping lines.‎ D. Ways to slow down the speed of the ships.‎ 第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Your children are watching you. 36 According to the Health Program, developing healthy habits is an important part for your children.
