And each of us, if we live long enough, experiences the loss of persons we loved. Children ages eight through ten were asked what they thought about death, and these are some of their answers: “When you die,God takes care of you like your mother did. When you were alive, only God doesn’t yell at you all the time.’’(Beth,9) “When you die, they bury you in the ground and your soul goes to heaven, but your body can’t go to heaven because it’s too crowded there already.” (Jimmy, 8) “Only the good people go to heaven. The other people go where it’s hot all the time like in Florida. ” (Judy,9) “Doctors help you so you won’t die until you pay their bills.”(Stephanie,9) I've observed that the loss of a loved one can be one of the most difficult things we humans can face. I’ve known friends of sick and dying people to sit by a bedside or in a hospital room for hours, even days, at a time. I've seen food in homes of people who are dying overflow from kitchen to dining room—food brought by comforting friends from church and con cerned neighbours. And I've observed friends just listen for as long as it takes. But designer Mikhail Belyaev doesn’t think that forgetting to check the weather forecast before heading out should result in you getting wet. That’s why he created Lampbrella, a lamp post with its own rain-sensing umbrella. The designer says he came up with the idea after watching people get wet on streets in Russia. “Once, I was driving on a central Saint Petersburg street and saw the street lamps lighting up people trying to hide from the rain. I thought it would be appropriate to have a canopy(伞蓬) built into a street lamp,” he said. The Lampbrella is a standard-looking street lamp fitted with an umbrella canopy. It has a built-in electric motor which can open or close the umbrella on demand Sensors(传感器) then ensure that the umbrella offers pedestrians shelter whenever it starts raining. In addition to the rain sensor, there’s also a 360°motion sensor on the fiberglass street lamp which detects whether anyone is using the Lampbrella. After three minutes of not being used the canopy is closed. According to the designer, the Lampbrella would move at a relatively low speed, so as not to cause harm to the pedestrians. Besides, it would be grounded to protect from possible lightning strike. Each Lampbrella would offer enough shelter for several people. Being installed(安装) at 2 metres off the ground, it would only be a danger for the tallest of pedestrians. While there are no plans to take the Lampbrella into production, Belyaev says he recently introduced his creation to one Moscow Department, and insists his creation could be installed on any street where a lot of people walk but there are no canopies to provide shelter. 29. What do we know from Belyacv’s words in Paragraph 2? A. His creation was inspired by an experience. B. It rains a lot in the city of Saint Petersburg. C. Street lamps are protected by canopies. D. He enjoyed taking walks in the rain. 30. Which of the following show how the lampbrella works? A. motor→canopy→sensors B. sensors→motor→canopy C. motor→sensors→canopy D. canopy→motor→sensors 31. The designer will open a company to promote his product. B. The lampbrella could be put into immediate production. C. The designer is confident that his creation is practical. D. The lampbrella would be put on show in Moscow. 【答案】29. A 30. B 31. D 32. Comics are now gaining a new respectability at school. That is thanks to an increasingly popular and creative programme, often aimed at struggling readers, that encourages children to plot, write and draw comic books, in many cases using themes from their own lives. The Comic Book Project was started in 2001 by Michael Bitz at an elementary school in Queens. Since its creation, the programme, which is mainly conducted after school, has spread to more than 850 schools across the country. It has gotten a big push from the craze(狂热) among adolescents for comic book clubs and for Manga, a widly popular variety of comic originating in Japan. The point is not to drop a comic book on a child’s desk and say “read this”. Rather, the workshops give groups of students the opportunity to collaborate(合著) on often complex stories and charac-ters that they then revise, publish and share with others in their communities. Teachers are finding it easier to teach writing, grammar and punctuation with material that students are fully invested in(投入). And it turns out that comic books have other built-in advantages. The pairing of visual and written plotlines that they rely on appear to be especially helpful to struggling readers. No one is suggesting that comic books should substitute for traditional books or for standard reading and composition lessons. Teachers who would once have dismissed comics out of hand are learning to exploit(利用) a style that clearly has a powerful hold on young minds. They are using what works. 33. Which of the following is probably the best title of the passage? A. Japanese Comic Books. B. Comic Books in the Classroom. C. Reading Efficiently. D. A Current Craze. 34. The main purpose of the Comic Book Project is to . A. develop the cooperation among adolescents B. make sure that students live a rich and colourful life after school C. help students who have some difficulty in reading D. popularize a new method of teaching 35. She used to holding me on her knees and sing old songs. I was only four when she passes away. She is just a distant memory for me now. I remember my grandfather very much. He was tall, with broad shoulder and a beard that turned from black toward gray over the years. He had a deep voice, which set himself apart from others in our small town, he was strong and powerful. In a fact, he even scared my classmates away during they came over to play or do homework with me. However, he was the gentlest man I have never known. 【答案】第二句 holding改成hold 第三句 passes改成passed 第五句 much改成well/clearly 第六句 shoulder改成shoulders;toward改成to/into 第七句 himself改成him;he was前面加上and 第八句 删除a;during改成when 第九句 never改成ever 【解析】 第一处:句意:我几乎不记得我的祖母。她过去常常抱着我跪在地上,唱老歌。考查固定搭配,used to do sth意为“过去常常做某事”,故将holding改为hold。 第二处:句意:我只有四岁时,她去世了。外婆去世这件事发生在过去,所以应该用过去时,故将passes改为passed。 第三处:句意:我非常深的记得我的祖父。remember只能被well/clearly修饰,表达“记得很深/好”,故将much改为well。 第四处:句意:他个子很高,肩膀宽阔。根据常理,人有两个肩膀,肩膀应该是复数,所以应该用复数形式,故将shoulder改为shoulders。 第五处:句子a beard that turned from black toward gray over the years.句意为“祖父有多年来从黑色变成了灰色的胡子”,由over the years以前主句中用的过去时可知,应该用过去完成时had done,故在此处加上had。 第六处:句意:他的深沉的声音把他和别人区别开来。所以应该用宾格him。故将himself改为him。 第七处:根据句中结构可知He had a deep voice…和he was strong and powerful是并列关系,故用and连接。 第八处:固定短语in fact表示“实际上”,故删去a。 第九处:during为介词,后不能接句子;应用when 这个连词引导时间状语从句。故将during改为when。 第十处:语义错误。句意:他是我认识的最温柔的人。故将never改为ever。 【名师点睛】 during 和when的区别: during为介词,后面接名词,如: I went to visit the Great Wall during the summer vacation. 我暑假里去游览了长城。 when意为“当……时”,引导时间状语从句。when强调时间点,通常译为“当……时”,例如: When she came in, I was cooking. 她进来时,我正在做饭。 例如本文第9题:He even scared my classmates away him during they came over to play or do homework with me. during是介词,后面不能是一个句子,根据语境,应该用when引导时间状语从句,表示“当他们来和我玩或者做作业时”。故将during改为when。 参考词汇: 高考:College Entrance Examination 明确的:definite 正确评价自己:have a correct estimation of oneself Dear Tom, How are you doing?
