Many people still come to Homecoming twenty or thirty years after their graduation.‎ The members of school clubs build booths(摊位) and sell lemonade, apples and sandwiches.‎ ‎ Some clubs help to welcome visitors.‎ During the day people like to look for teachers that they remember from long ago. Often they see old friends and they talk together about those happy years in school.‎ Everyone soon comes to watch the football game. When the game is half over, the band comes onto the field and plays school songs. Another important moment is when the Homecoming Queen or King appears. All the students vote a most popular student Homecoming Queen or King. It is a great honor to be chosen.‎ Homecoming is a happy day, but it is not perfect unless the football team wins the game. This is New York style pizza, handmade with care and good ingredients(成分). New branches(分店) of Steve’s Pizza are opening elsewhere in Miami, all in non-tourist areas.‎ Opening hours: 11 a.m. – 3 a. m.‎ Cattleman’s Steakhouse This place in 20 miles east of the city, but local folks would probably drive 200 miles to eat here. Do you look at your glass and see it as half full?Do you believe that every cloud has a silver lining and that generally things turn out for the best? Do you believe that if something is meant to be,it will be? If you reply “yes” to all of these questions, then you are an optimist. You probably are enthusiastic, cheerful and outgoing. You may well be successful at work and in love.‎ But you may be misguided because things don’t turn out for the best. You may believe that when one door closes, another one opens(for example, you may fail to land a new job, another chance will come around soon).Wrong. When one door closes, another door slams in your face. That’s bitter reality.‎ Now a book has been published which confirms what we pessimists(悲观者)have suspected all along. It’s called The Positive Power of Defensive(防御的)Pessimism. Its author argues that defensive pessimism can lead to positive results. Defensive pessimism is a strategy used to manage fear, anxiety and worry. Defensive pessimists prepare for things by setting low outcomes for themselves. They carefully consider everything that may go wrong and plan for ways to handle these problems. And this gives them a sense of control. Lawrence Sanno,a psychology professor, says,“What’s interesting about defensive pessimists is that they tend to be very successful people,so their low opinion of the situation’s outcomes is not realistic. They use it to motivate themselves to perform better.”‎ So far,so good. This is not rocket science. Defensive pessimists prepare carefully and consider what might go wrong, whether at work,on a date or even in a sports game. It makes sense to have a backup plan. There are many sayings in English urging caution. For example,“Don’t put all your eggs in one basket,” and “Don’t count your chickens until they hatch.” To have a confident and optimistic approach to life’s problems is good. But listen to what Woody Alien, the American comedian says ,“Confidence is what you have before you understand the problem.”‎ There are pros and cons to being an optimist and a pessimist. Don’t feel bad if you see the glass half empty. You are a realist. But lighten up and hook up with (交流,沟通)someone who sees the same glass half full.‎ ‎28.What is the passage mainly about?‎ A.The benefits of defensive pessimism.‎ B.How to become successful in life.‎ C.A book that has recently been published.‎ D.The dangers of being too optimistic.‎ ‎29.The underlined sentence “This is not rocket science” in Paragraph 4 means________.‎ A.the cost is not so high B.there is no real proof C.it’s not a dangerous thing to do D.it is quite simple to understand ‎30.The writer would probably describe himself as________.‎ A.a success B.a failure C.a realist D.a scientist ‎31.Which of the following English expressions would a defensive pessimist believe?‎ A.Whatever will be,will be.‎ B.The glass is half full not half empty.‎ C.Every cloud has a silver lining.‎ D.Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.‎ D Instagram is containing so many photos of food—now a pop-up diner in London is taking advantage of this new trend by letting people settle the bill for their meals simply by uploading photos of their dishes to social networks.‎ I always thought people's taking pictures of their food was kind of silly, but at this new pop-up restaurant in the UK, I'd probably do it too. 'The Picture House' is the world's first pay-by-photo restaurant—you order, click a photo of the food, share on Instagram and eat for free!‎ The restaurant belongs to frozen food giant (巨人) Birds Eye, who came up with the idea to cash in on people's addiction with photographing food and sharing the pictures online. They conducted a survey and found out that more than half of the British population regularly took pictures of their meals. So they realized it was a better way to advertise their new dining range.‎ The pop-up diner was open in Soho, London for three days in May, and is now moving to other major UK cities. They serve two-course meals that customers don't have to pay for, if they photo and Instagram it.‎ The restaurant is a part of Birds Eye's 'Food for Life' campaign, a new marketing project that aims at changing the way people look at frozen food. "Taking photos of food enables people to show off and to share their mealtime moments—from the everyday to the special," said marketing director Margaret Jobling.‎ The reaction to The Picture House has been great so far. And the pay-by-picture concept has proven to be an effective way. Alternative payment methods are actually gaining popularity among a lot of businesses. Last year, in a cafe in Germany customers pay by how much time they spend there, not by what they eat.‎ ‎32.Instagram probably is ____.‎ A. a restaurant free of charge B. a campaign of "Food for Life"‎ C. a program used to share photos D. a new marketing project ‎ ‎33.What's the author's attitude to this new trend?‎ A. Deadlines, and lots of them, start to pile up. At college, the pressure sometimes leads to last -minute rush and unsatisfactory work. At work, failing to meet deadlines can easily get you Bred. 36 Here are a few best practices.‎ ‎●Assign deadlines to what matters.‎ If the task isn’t of high importance, don’t set a specific deadline. In this way,you are able to keep it on your radar for a while without feeling pressured. 37 This will provide just enough pressure to ensure you get it done.‎ ‎● 38 ‎ Set a personal deadline for yourself a day or two before the actual deadline 39 If you’re working with a group of people, add in even more time to account for potential follow-ups and the need for approvals.‎ ‎●Keep communicating. ‎ ‎ 40 This means letting others know when something is taking longer than expected, when a delivery didn’t come in,when a client is not providing the necessary information, etc.‎ Although it may feel embarrassing to admit that something is not on schedule, being honest is much better for relieving your stress.‎ A. Plan for flexible hours.‎ B. Finish your project as early as possible.‎ C. But if an activity is urgent, set a deadline immediately.‎ D. In this way,you’11 never have to stay up late and feel stressed.‎ E. But handled properly, deadlines can actually improve productivity.‎ F. Whenever you feel challenged to finish work on time, communicate.‎ G. So if anything takes longer than expected, you can still wrap it up and submit it on time.‎ ‎ ‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节:完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) ‎ 阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,然后从各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。‎ This was my grandmother’s first Christmas without grandfather. I can still remember the days we spent together when you taught in China. When you went back to America last month, you mentioned to get a Chinese name stamp made for you, as it is a symbol of traditional Chinese culture. Now I’m so glad to tell you that I’ve already found a stamp craftsman who’s experienced and skilled at making Chinese traditional name stamps. ‎ To make a stamp that suits you best, I attach some pictures of various types of characters, designs and materials in the email. You can choose whichever of them you prefer. ‎ Look forward to your reply. Best wishes. ‎ ‎                                                                      Yours, ‎ Li Hua ‎ 附:听力材料 ‎ 听力原文: ‎ ‎(Text 1) ‎ W: Could you tell me how I get to Dupont Station from here? ‎ M: Certainly. Take the Beltway and get off at exit 40B. Half an hour is enough. ‎ W: It’s closer than I thought. I thought it would take an hour. Thanks. ‎ ‎(Text 2) ‎ W: Shall we sit here? It’s nice to look out of the window. ‎ M: It might be a bit cold by the door. Let’s find a table in that corner. ‎ W: OK. At least it’s quiet there. ‎ ‎(Text 3) ‎ M: Where are you? ‎ W: I’m still at the train station. I’ve just arrived. ‎ M: Well, I can’t go to pick you up because people are arriving at the party. You’d better take a taxi instead of a bus. It takes less time. ‎ W: OK. ‎ ‎(Text 4) ‎ W: This is delicious. Did you make it yourself? It is better than any juice I can have in a café. ‎ M: Yes, I did. It’s very simple. It tastes much nicer with a cake. The most important thing is to use really fresh fruits. ‎ ‎(Text 5) ‎ M: Can I still check out these books? ‎ W: Sorry, you can’t check out after 5:00 p.m. But you can read them here and check them out tomorrow. ‎ M: Thank you very much. ‎ ‎(Text 6) ‎ W: Have you started your art classes yet? ‎ M: Yeah, we’ve had four now with the new teacher. Every week we have 2 classes. ‎ W: How’s that going? ‎ M: Good actually. She’s very different from Mr. Jones. He always wanted us to do things his way, you know, use the same techniques, work in a particular range of colours. Mrs. Boyd is very different. She lets us do things our way, and then comes and helps us improve. It’s a good way of doing things. Then she shows us what well-known artists have done after we’ve done our own work … so we can compare ideas I suppose. ‎ W: Great. ‎ ‎(Text 7) ‎ W: Can you tell me which one of these files contains the sales figures? I need them for the meeting tomorrow afternoon. ‎ M: Susan and David have them, but I recommend looking at Susan’s files. I heard she always comes out with a very good analysis of the figures. ‎ W: Great, I’ll go with Susan’s then. Thanks for the help. ‎ M: No problem. By the way, what time does the meeting start? I guess I’ll have to attend, too. ‎ ‎(Text 8) ‎ W: Good afternoon. What can I do for you? ‎ M: I am afraid that the rice cooker I have bought in your store doesn’t work well. I bought it two days ago. When I used it to cook this morning, lots of steam escaped from it, and the hot steam nearly burnt me. ‎ W: Would you like to exchange it? ‎ M: No, I would like to return it. ‎ W: Let me check the sales record. Oh, you bought it on Wednesday. Well, do you have a credit card? We will take down your number and return the money to you. ‎ M: I’ve actually got one, but I don’t take it with me. Well, I’ll phone my wife and ask her about that. ‎ ‎ (Text 9) ‎ W: Where are you from, Corey? ‎ M: I’m from Canada. I’ve just moved here. ‎ W: Canada! Are you good at winter sports then? ‎ M: Yeah, I love winter sports very much, such as skiing and snowboarding. I also like ice diving. ‎ W: Wow! That sounds quite exciting! ‎ M: Yeah. I’ve been doing that for 7 years, since I was 9. What do you do in your free time? ‎ W: Well, swimming used to be my favorite hobby. But now I spend most of my spare time in the acting club I joined last year and I really love the theater — I really want to be an actress one day. Have you got any other hobbies? ‎ M: Um, I guess I enjoy playing online computer games. I feel quite relaxed when playing the games and it helps me make new friends. How about you? Do you spend much time online? ‎ W: Well, I’m not interested in computer games. I think it makes no sense spending time playing something with strangers. I prefer chatting face to face with my friends. ‎ M: I like chatting with friends too. ‎ W: Oh, it’s time for class. Our English teacher is coming. After class I’ll introduce you to some of my friends. ‎ ‎ (Text 10) ‎ M: Hello everyone. My name’s Sandy Duffy and I’m here to tell you about my job as a video game writer. I work with game developers and designers to think of good stories, and I write all the dialogue in the game by myself. When I was in secondary school, I never imagined that I would do this job! I played the violin and that was what I planned to do as my job. But I had an accident when I was playing basketball and hurt my hand, so I had to think of doing something else. My mother wanted me to be a journalist, but I didn’t think it was for me. ‎ ‎   I didn’t know what to study at university. I was good at lots of science subjects, including Physics and Maths, but I also loved entertaining people and I was good at Art. In the end, I went to a film school where I studied lighting, special effects, how to use a camera ... all that! It was there that I started to think about working in the video game industry. ‎ People also ask me what I like best about being a video game writer. Well, the money is good and it’s quite exciting. Just last night, for example, I was at a big dinner where they were giving prizes for new games. But what I love most is the fact that I get on so well with everyone in the company. That’s what makes my job so much fun. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎
