Unlike mainland Australia, rabbits and foxes were never introduced,so the local wildlife has less competition for survival. Another thing the island doesn't have is something a Scottish friend once called, “The Way of the Island”. There is no sense of being on the island;in many places, you can climb to a high point and see nothing but bushes in any direction.‎ That catches many visitors out when they arrive with the idea of walking or cycling around the island. It's really too big for that. There is little in the way of public transport, and the most practical ways to get around are to sign up for an organised tour or hire a car.‎ The island's main road, the Playford Highway, heads westward from Nepean Bay until it meets the West End Highway in the middle of nowhere. The West End Highway heads south;the Playford Highway continues westward as a dirt road to Cape Borda, where there is a lighthouse,a few former light keepers' cottages, a National Park Visitor Centre and nothing else. Much of the island is farmland;lamb and beef from Kangaroo Island are especially prized. Fruit is also a major export, but the grapes in the vineyards (葡萄园) are turned into very acceptable wine first.‎ ‎19 National Parks and Conservation Areas cover over 30% of the island's area, and the biggest of them lies to the southwest of the island, where the Finders Chase National Park covers 32, 600 hectares of bush land. Entry is by permit only, which we bought at the park entrance at Rocky River. There,we wondered if the park authorities had the wildlife trained, because we saw a family of kangaroos right in the car park by the park office, but they only appeared after we paid the entrance fee!‎ 语篇解读:本文主要介绍了袋鼠岛的一些基本情况。‎ ‎1.Why is the wildlife on Kangaroo Island more likely to survive?‎ A.Because there are no rabbits or foxes on the island.‎ B.Because rabbits and foxes are less competitive species.‎ C.Because nobody lives on the island.‎ D.Because the island is famous for its bushes.‎ ‎[解析] 细节理解题。 因此选A。‎ ‎[答案] A ‎2.One of the most practical ways to get around on the island is to __________.‎ A.rent a car B.ride a bike C.take public transport D.sign up for a travel lesson ‎[解析] 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“There is little in the way of public transport, and the most practical ways to get around are to sign up for an organised tour or hire a car.” 因此选A。‎ ‎[答案] A ‎3.What can you find at Cape Borda?‎ A.The Playford Highway.‎ B.The West End Highway.‎ C.A few vineyards.‎ D.Some former light keepers' cottages.‎ ‎[解析] 细节理解题。 ‎ ‎[答案] D ‎4.The author and his family saw a family of kangaroos at the Flinders Chase National Park after they __________.‎ A.talked to the park authorities B.paid the entrance fee C.went into the park office D.arrived at Rocky River ‎[解析] 细节理解题。 ‎ ‎[答案] B B ‎(2017·合肥市高三质检一)Many young people these days adore the advertised magazine body and become too focused on attaining this image instead of worrying more about what lasts and even grows over time. But could you imagine being considered beautiful for years, and suddenly being ugly after moving to another continent? It is a sad reality that people don't realize how vacillating the idea of beauty can be from one country to another.‎ Think of the most typical American girl you know. Is she blonde-haired with white skin and light blue eyes, and does she love shopping or sports? Now place this girl in the heart of Africa, where beauty is placed on what you can control. The Maasai tribe in Kenya focuses on how clean people are, and how stylish their piercings (穿孔) are. This tribe's culture is to be a brave fighter, so they will cut their skin with patterns in it to show that they are strong. If you don't look fierce, you are not beautiful.‎ Other countries like North Korea and South Korea have their own unique views on beauty. In an interview, a woman who has lived in both North Korea and South Korea claims that beauty in North Korea is based more on your ability to be a good woman and wife. She says that women in North Korea are less concerned about fashion and beauty in the physical sense. She says they did have a time when big eyes were a big deal and everyone wanted to get double eyelid surgery. This is something extreme and could perhaps be influenced by Western culture. But don't you think the idea of getting surgery done to look more attractive is crazy?‎ 语篇解读:本文主要介绍了不同群体的文化差异使得人们对美的观点不尽相同。‎ ‎5.What does the underlined word “vacillating” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?‎ A.Inconsistent. B.Reasonable.‎ C.Unusual. inconsistent“不一致的”;reasonable“合理的”;unusual“不寻常的”;similar“相似的”。‎ ‎[答案] A ‎6.The Maasai tribe in Kenya is mentioned to show that in their eyes __________.‎ A.getting dirty is stylish B.looking fierce is beautiful C.strong people cut their skin D.American girls love shopping ‎[解析] 细节理解题。根据第二段的“If you don't look fierce, you are not beautiful”可知,肯尼亚的Maasai部落认为看起来凶猛就是美丽的。‎ ‎[答案] B ‎7.According to the woman interviewed, women in North Korea now __________.‎ A.care a lot about their appearance B.put the beauty of eyes in the first place C.pay great attention to their ability D.are crazy about double eyelid surgery ‎[解析] 细节理解题。根据最后一段的“claims that beauty in North Korea is based more on your ability to be a good woman and wife”可知,朝鲜的女性现在更加关注她们成为好女人和好妻子的能力。‎ ‎[答案] C ‎8.What does the text mainly tell us?‎ A.Inner beauty is of great importance.‎ B.Ideas of beauty vary among culture groups.‎ C.Different ways are needed to admire true beauty.‎ D.Fashion magazines easily influence young people.‎ ‎[解析] 主旨大意题。 七选五阅读填空 ‎(2017·石家庄质检二)‎ How to Make Sure You Enjoy Your Trip A trip is a planned destination where one arranges in advance in which the main purpose is to search for adventure and to create a memorable moment.
