A man goes shopping because he needs something. His purpose is settled and decided in advance. He knows what he wants, and his objective is to find it and buy it; the price is a secondary consideration. All men simply walk into a shop and ask the assistant for what they want. If the shop has it in stock, the salesman promptly produces it, and the business of trying it on goes forward at once. All being well, the deal can be and often is completed in less than five minutes, with hardly any chat and to everyone's satisfaction. For a man, slight problems may begin when the shop does not have what he wants, or does not have exactly what he wants. In that case the salesman, as the name implies, tries to sell the customer something else, he offers the nearest he can to the article required. No good salesman brings out such a substitute without least consideration; he does so with skill and polish(完美): “I know this jacket is not the style you want, sir, but would you like to try it for size. It happens to be the color you mentioned." Few men have patience with this treatment, and the usual response is: “This is the right color and may be the right size but I should be wasting my time and yours by trying it on. Now how does a woman go about buying clothes? In almost every respect she does so in the opposite way. Her shopping is not often based on need. She has never fully made up her mind what she wants, and she is only “having a look round". She is always open to persuasion: indeed she sets great store by what the saleswoman tells her, even by what companions tell her. She will try on any number of things. Uppermost in her mind is the thought of finding something that everyone thinks suits her. Contrary to a lot of jokes, most women have an excellent sense of value when they buy clothes. They are always on the lookout for the unexpected bargain. Faced with a roomful of dresses, a woman may easily spend an hour going from one rail to another, to and fro often retracing her steps, before selecting the dresses she wants to try on. It is a tiresome process, but apparently an enjoyable one. Most dress shops provide chairs for the waiting husbands. 4. According to the passage, a man’s shopping is based on _______. A. his money B. his hobbies C. his friends D. his need 5. Why does a lady welcome suggestions from anyone while buying a dress? A.. Because she doesn’t know how to buy a dress. B. Because she wants to buy a dress that everyone thinks suits her C. Because she doesn’t know whether to buy it or not. D. Because she wants to show herself off in public. 6. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A. Most men have patience with trying it on while buying a jacket. B. Most women have a poor sense of value when buying a dress. C. A man doesn’t pay much attention to the price of the clothes he wants to buy. D. A woman’s shopping is based on her need. 7. The passage mainly talks about the ______ between men shoppers and women shoppers for clothes. A. differences B. similarities C. varieties D. intentions C Social networks are a big part of nearly every teenager’s life in this day and age. Many teens have QQ, Wechat or Weibo but little do a lot of teens know that they should be held responsible for everything they post for the rest of their lives. Everything you post online is part of a digital footprint that can always be traced(追踪) back to you. That includes every post, even comment , favorite and forward that you have ever committed. All pictures you have posted or will post have been stored in a digital database, and it is the companies’ right to keep all of these documents that you believe to have been deleted or hidden. With every post comes a consequence, whether it is good or bad, what you post could be seen by anyone. That is why you have to be careful of what you decide to post or comment. If you think you are safe from Servite finding out about one funny comment you have made six month ago on a meaningless picture, you are probably wrong. Recently, a senior, Aaron, at Servite learned this lesson in a hard way this year. He wrote a series of ugly comments towards Connelly girls on a web page, ignoring potential consequences. This student, however, did have to face consequences from Servite as he was removed from all of his leadership roles in the school. Surprisingly enough, he fully agreed with his punishment handed down by the administration and fully understood why he was given such severe punishment. “When you agree to come to Servite, you are agreeing to defend what Servite stands for,” the young man said. “That continues past the hours of 8 a.m and 2 p.m. it’s at all times.” So next time, you are about to post something you think you could be received as offensive or inappropriate, think twice, and don’t press send. 8. What does the author think the teens should do in the first paragraph? A. Avoid using social media B. Remove their own digital documents. C. Be responsible for what they put online D. Learn to balance their online and offline time 9. What mistake did Aaron make online? A. Drawing some meaningless pictures. B. Making some bad comments. C. Failing to take his lesson. D. Breaking down a special web page. 10. What did Servite do with Aaron’s case? A. It reached an agreement with Connelly girls. B. It helped Aaron get rid of ill effects. C. It gave Aaron a severe punishment. D. It stood on Aaron’s side 11. For whom is the text probably intended? A. Teenagers B. Teachers C. Parents D. Network engineers D A new keyboard can tell whether you are its owner. The keyboard records information about the typing pattern and sends it to a computer-program. The program then checks to see if the pattern matches the right user. If not, an alarm sounds, and-the computer locks the typist out. It locks out anyone else, even if that person knows the password. What's more, this device needs no batteries. It harvests all the energy it needs from the action of your typing. Besides, the keyboard is also self-cleaning and the keys are free of damage from water, oil and dirt. The keys of the new keyboard are made of the same inexpensive plastic that might be found on any other standard keyboard. But instead of being smooth, the keys have millions of tiny plastic nanowires (纳米线)on their surface area to every key, increasing the effective contact area between the plastics and fingers. This ensures that there's enough power to run the keyboard as someone types. Liming Dai, a scientist, did not work on the new keyboard, but he thinks the design could be important in getting better performance from a variety of devices. "It could also be applied to a touch screen .for instance.” Dai says. “Then smartphones and notepads could harvest energy from the action of someone typing or drawing.” “Future work might make the keyboard even more useful.” Dai adds. “A later design might build tiny Capacitors(电容器) on to the nanowires,” he suggests. Capacitors are little devices that temporarily store electric charges. Zhonglin Wang is a co-designer of the new keyboard. His team has built a working model of the keyboard. “If company decides to fund(投资)its production, this keyboard could be in stores in as few as two years,” says Wang. 12. How does the new keyboard tell whether you are its owner? A. By checking the right user's passwords. B. By sending alarms to a computer program. C. By matching the typing pattern to the right user. D. By recording information about the typing pattern. 13. Why are there many nanowires on the surface of the keys? A. To make the keys beautiful. B. To help produce power. C. To make the keys smooth. D. To improve the speed of typing. 14. What's Dai's attitude to the new keyboard? A. Unconcerned. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Critical. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. A new keyboard made in Nanowires B. A new keyboard is powered by typing C. A new keyboard’s future D. A new keyboard entirely owned by you 第二节:(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中的两项为多途选项。 (注:选E 涂AB ; 选F涂AC; 选G涂AD) Everyone losses friends.
