A.however B.whichever C.whatever D.wherever 答案: C 4.(辽宁高考)________hungry I am,I never seem to be able to finish off this loaf of bread. A.what B.how C.which D.why 解析: 考查宾语从句。take great trouble to do something表示“不辞辛劳地做某事”。在此,what引导的宾语从句同时是一个感叹句,what修饰名词trouble。而how在感叹句中修饰形容词或副词。 答案: A 4.(2010·成都毕业班诊断性检测)Professor Backman took up scientific research for decades, and this is________he devoted all his life to. Trying to help injured, displaced or sick creatures can be heartbreaking, survival is never certain. However, when it works, it is simply beautiful. I got a rescue call from a woman in Muttontown. She had found a young owl(猫头鹰) on the ground. When I arrived, I saw a 2-to 3-week-old owl. It had already been placed in a carrier for safety. I examined the chick(雏鸟) and it seemed fine. If I could locate the nest, I might have been able to put it back, but no luck. My next work was to construct a nest and anchor it in a tree. The homeowner was very helpful. A wire basket was found. I put some pine branches into the basket to make this nest safe and comfortable. I placed the chick in the nest, and it quickly calmed down. Now all that was needed were the parents, but they were absent. I gave the homeowner a recording of the hunger screams of owl chicks. These advertise the presence of chicks to adults, they might also encourage our chick to start calling as well. I gave the owner as much information as possible and headed home to see what news the night might bring. A nervous night to be sure, but sometimes the spirits of nature smile on us all! The homeowner called to say that the parents had responded to the recordings. I drove over and saw the chick in the nest looking healthy and active. And it was accompanied in the nest by the greatest sight of all — LUNCH!The parents had done their duty and would probably continue to do so. 4. What is unavoidable in the author’s rescue work according to paragraph 1? A. Efforts made in vain. B. Getting injured in his work. C. Feeling uncertain about his future. D. Creatures forced out of their homes. 5. Why was the author called to Muttontown? A. To rescue a woman. B. To take care of a woman. C. To look at a baby owl. D. To cure a young owl. 6. What made the chick calm down? A. A new nest. B. Some food. C. A recording. D. Its parents. 7. How would the author feel about the outcome of the event? A. It’s unexpected. B. It’s beautiful. C. It’s humorous. D. It’s discouraging. C For anyone who doubts whether the texting revolution is upon us, consider this: The average 13- to 17-year-old sends and receives 3,339 texts a month—more than 100 per day, according to the Nielsen Co., the media research firm. Adults are catching up. People from ages 45 to 54 sent and received 323 texts a month in the second quarter of 2010, up 75% from a year ago, Nielsen says. Part of what's driving the texting increase among adults is the popularity of social media. Sites like Twitter, with postings of no more than 140 characters, are creating and strengthening the habit of communicating in micro-bursts. Economics has much to do with texting’s popularity. Text messages cost carriers less than traditional mobile voice transmissions, and so they cost users less. Sprint Nextel has changed its Virgin Mobile brand to satisfy heavy texters’ needs. For $25 per month, users get unlimited texting, email, social networking and 300 talk minutes; for another $15, they get an additional 900 talk minutes. The name of the brand's new wireless plan: “Beyond Talk.” Texting’s rise over conversation is changing the way we communicate, social scientists and researchers say. We tend to text to deliver difficult information. We stare at our phone when we want to avoid eye contact. Rather than make plans in advance, we are occupied by what researchers have named “micro-coordination”— “I’ll txt u in 10mins when I know wh/ restrnt.” Texting saves us time, but it steals from quiet reflection. “When people have a mobile device and have even a little extra time, they will communicate with someone in their life,” says Lee Rainie, director of the Pew Internet and American Life Project. And the phone conversation will never be completely outdated. Deal makers and other professionals still spend much of the day on the phone. Researchers say people are more likely to use text-based communications at the beginning stages of projects. The phone comes into play when there are multiple choices to consider or important decisions to be made. 8. At the beginning of the passage, what is the author’s purpose of using figures? A. Introduction. B. Comparison. C. Explanation. D. Transition. 9. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a cause for texting’s popularity? A. Promotion of cheaper wireless packages. B. Increase in the number of adult texters. C. Redesign of mobile devices. D. Rise of social media. 10. According to the passage, what can texting help people? A. face difficult situations B. make appointments in advance C. communicate with strangers D. avoid awkward situations 11. What is the passage mainly about? A. Texting’s popularity and effect. B. Role of texting in business. C. Preference to texting over thinking. D. Innovation of mobile devices. D Life often requires people to participate in unpleasant situations. Rather often, these unpleasant situations do not occur on their own, but rather happen because of other people’s actions and words. Fortunately, there are useful ways to deal with conflicts. The best way to solve a conflict is not to let it happen. Nothing beneficial comes out of a conflict. It is a total waste of time and energy for both sides and thus every individual should try his best to prevent conflict. You should take a conscious position, seeking out areas of potential conflicts. To do this, you will need to learn the points of view your potential opponents (对手) share and the benefits of understanding people around you. If the conflict has already arisen, one of the best methods to settle disagreements is to treat the situation with humor. It does not mean, however, that you must ignore your opponent’s arguments and make jokes about them; it means that you should preserve a friendly atmosphere, saying serious and difficult-to-express things with a bit of humor. Humor will help you discharge anger, reduce tension, re-think problems to make them look easier to settle, and set you opponent’s mind to working on a problem with you, not against you. Just remember that you should laugh with your opponent, not at them. This way, a conflict can become an opportunity for building a greater connection between you and your opponent. If the situation turns verbally abusive, put a stop to it. Firmly but calmly state: “You’re very angry right now and you’re saying things you don’t mean (give them the benefit of the doubt). I’m going to excuse myself. We can talk again after you calm down.” Then leave the room or ask them to leave. 12. What can we learn about conflict prevention? A. It does good to both sides. B. It provides a better solution. C. It results in verbal arguments. D. It causes some misunderstandings. 13. How can you deal with your opponent with humor? A. Play a trick on him. B. Laugh at him seriously. C. Overlook his angry words. D. Explain to him amusingly. 14. What will you do when you are under verbal attack from a man? A. Say sorry and leave him. B. Make an excuse to end it. C. Put the man beneath his dignity. D. Deal with him as he deals with you. 15. What may be the best title of the passage? A. Humor and Conflicts. B. Conflicts and Compromise. C. Ways to settle Conflicts. D. How to prevent Conflicts. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How Can I Fight Laziness? Lazy people will never gain anything in life. However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind. 16 Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things. By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day. Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from task to task. Others take a more positive approach, viewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone. __17 Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations(诱惑) that surround them. A television in the living room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness. 18 Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film. Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home. Couples and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not dealt with immediately. __19 Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task. It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated people. 20 Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you to have more energy and help lift your spirits. A. To fight family laziness, set an example. B. Knowing how to fight laziness is important. C. One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep. D. Finally, taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness. E. With strong determination, you will be able to achieve your goal. F. Laziness appears when you no longer feel in charge of your own mind. G. Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child. My brother and I slipped out of the bed.
