A new study suggests that listening to music in the office improves the speed and accuracy of tasks such as data entry, proof reading and problem solving. In an office-based experiment,88 percent of participants were found to produce their most accurate work when listening to music. The study also found that 81 percent completed their fastest work when music was played. And it matters what type of music you listen to. For instance, if you' re doing your tax returns, then classical music is the most effective as it improves maths skills. Listening to Jessie J or Justin Bieber could also improve your speed, with 58 percent of participants completing data entry tasks faster while listening to pop songs. During proof-reading, dance music, such as David Guetta, had the biggest positive impact with participants increasing their speed by 20 percent compared to tests undertaken with no music at all. Dance music also had a positive effect on spell-checking with a 75 percent pass rate compared to 68 percent when no music was played at all. The research, undertaken by Brighton-based Mindlab International, suggests that silent offices may be the least productive. “The music experiment showed that when listening to music, 9 out of 10 people performed better,” said Dr. David Lewis, Chairman of Mindlab International. “Proper music enables people to quickly process and keep information, regulate their behaviors, make good choices, solve problems, plan and adjust to changing mental demands,” a senior investigator of Mindlab International explains. “While many schools are cutting music programs and spending more and more time on test preparation, our findings suggest that musical training may actually help to set up children for a getter academic future,” added Dr. David Lewis. 语篇解读:本文介绍了音乐对工作效率的影响,合适的音乐能使人提高工作效率。 1.What does the passage mainly talk about? Although Adele is a very successful singer now, music_wasn't _always_what_she_saw_herself_doing. At age 10, when she saw her grandmother's pain over the death of Adele's grandfather, she pictured herself as a heart surgeon. “I wanted to fix people's hearts,” she told the UK music website i-D, remembering the childhood interest she'd had in biology classes until she found out that her real talent was for singing. Adele didn't go to medical school, but many would agree that she still has healing (治愈) powers. “Her songs find the kind of memory every listener holds somewhere in their heart. This kind of feeling is what people have always liked in Adele,” said The Telegraph. “She writes a pop diary, sharing the simple secrets of her heart.” Most successful pop stars make albums at a fast pace, but not Adele. After her second album 21 won the 2012 Grammy Award for Album of the Year, she made it clear with her label that she would spend “four or five years” making her next album. She told Vogue magazine, “I won't come out with new music until it's better than 21.” Instead of seeking fame, Adele remained silent and moved to the countryside. In her free time, she loved to watch TV series Teen Morn, American Horror Story, and The Walking Dead. Living life as normally as possible is important to the singer's art. “Nobody wants to listen to a record from someone who's not living in the real world,” Adele told i-D. “So I live a low-key life for my fans.” 语篇解读:本文主要讲述了英国著名歌手阿黛尔在音乐上成功的秘密。 4.What does the text mainly tell us?
