A. its unique cover B. the characters in it C. its interesting content D. its high manufacturing cost C Regarded as one of the English language’s most gifted poets, John Keats wrote poetry that concentrated on imagery, human nature, and philosophy. Although Keats didn’t receive much formal literary education, his own studies and passion brought him much success. Additionally, his own life situation influenced his poetry greatly. Growing up as a young boy in London in a lower middle-class family, the young John didn’t attend a private school, but went to a public one. His teachers and his family’s friends regarded him as an optimistic boy who favored playing and fighting much more than minding his studies. After his father’s death in the early 1800s, followed by his mother’s passing due to tuberculosis (肺结核), he began viewing life differently. He wanted to escape the world and did so by reading anything he could get his hands on. At around the age of 16, the teenage John Keats began studying under a surgeon so that he too might become a doctor. However, his literary appetite had taken too much of his fancy, especially with his addiction to the poetry of Ehmund Spenser. He was able to have his first full poem published in the Examiner in 1816, entitled O Solitude! If I Must With Thee Dwell. Within two months in 1817, Keats had written an entire volume of poetry, but was sharply criticized by a magazine. However, the negative response didn’t stop his pursuit of rhythm (韵律). John Keats’ next work was Endymion, which was published in May 1818. The story involves a shepherd who falls in love with the moon goddess and leads him on an adventure of one boy’s hope to overcome the limitations of being human. Following Endymion, however, he tried something more narrative-based and wrote Isabella. During this time, John Keats began seeing his limitations in poetry due to his own limit in life experiences. He would have to have the “knowledge” associated with his poems. His next work was Hyperion that would attempt to combine all that he learned. However, a bout (发作) with tuberculosis while visiting Italy would keep him from his work and eventually take his life in 1821. 28. John Keats’ attitude towards life changed because of _________. A. his early education from school B. the criticism of a magazine C. Edmund Spenser’s poetry D. the deaths of his parents 29. What is the common thing between John Keats and his mother? A. They died of the same disease. B. They had a bad childhood C. They read many books. D. They showed strong interest in poetry 30. While pursuing his dream of becoming a poet at first, John Keats was _________. A. knowledgeable B. experienced C. determined D. impatient 31. What do we know from the passage? A. Keats received little education at school. B. Keats once had a chance of becoming a doctor. C. In 1816 Keats spent two months writing a poem. D. Endymion was about a real love story. D You don’t have to be a scientist to solve big environmental problems. One Dutch designer is finding creative ways to make a change - and he’s inviting cyclists to join him. Daan Roosegaarde, 38, is a designer from the Netherlands. He uses creative ideas to improve city life. He launched the Smog Free Project to reduce urban smog and give people the “gift” of fresh air. His latest idea is to work with engineers at Chinese bike-sharing company Ofo to create a new product for public use - an air-cleaning device attached to a bicycle in smoggy weather, the device would suck up the air in front of the bike and blow out clean air toward the cyclist’s face. Another part of the project is the Smog Free Tower. In 2014, Daan saw Beijing’s famous CCTV building covered in smog. He was inspired to do something about it. So he designed a 7-meter-high tower that could purify polluted air outside. Both of them use a process called positive ionizaton(正电离), which collects harmful particles from the air, such as PM2. 5, according to Daan. For example, the tower, which is similar to a big vacuum cleaner(真空吸尘器), purifies the air by giving out positive ions, which stick themselves to pollutants, according to Forbes. Then, a screen inside the tower, which is negatively charged, will draw the positive ions along with the pollutants. “Take a balloon and polish it with your hand to produce static(静电)- it’s the same principle,” Daan told China Daily. It’s no secret that air pollution is a big problem for Chinese cities. During the winter months, it’s common for thick clouds of hazardous haze(有害雾霾) caused largely by the burning of coal and car emissions(排放物) to cover large areas of China. In 2016, only one quarter of China’s cities met the country’s air quality standards, according to a survey of 338 cities nationwide by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. “Of course, one tower and a few bikes won’t solve China’s air pollution problem,” Daan told the Guardian, “But smog-free bikes are an exciting idea that will hopefully help toward creating greener cities.” 32.Which of the following is TRUE about Daan’s air-cleaning device? A. It would be installed on the back of a bicycle. B. It could completely clear the air of pollution. C. It would mainly clean the air in front of cyclists. D. Bikes with this device would cost cyclists more. 33.How does the Smog Free Tower work according to the article? A. Its screens can break down harmful particles. B. It gives out negative ions to collect pollutants. C. It has many layers of screens that gather pollutants. D. It draws in pollution similar to how static works. 34. According to the article, Daan __________________________. A. thinks Chinese cities should stop burning coal B. believes in the positive influence of smog-free bikes C. is going to try his air-cleaning device on cars D. thinks his work has greatly improved China's air quality 35. The author wrote this article mainly to _____________________. A. tell how shared bikes can help protect the environment B. offer a good solution to China’s air pollution problem C. introduce Daan Roosegaarde’s creative Smog Free Project D. discuss the problems of Daan Roosegaarde’s latest invention 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Empathy(情感共鸣) Last year, researchers from the University of Michigan reported that empathy, the ability to understand other people, among college students had dropped sharply over the past 10 years. That could be because so many people have replaced face time with screen time, the researchers said. 36 . Jennifer Freed,a codirector of a teen program, has another explanation. Turn on the TV,and you're showered with news and reality shows full of people fighting, competing, and generally treating one another with no respect. 37 There are good reasons not to follow those bad examples. Humans are socially related by nature. Having relationships with other people is an important part of being human — and having empathy is decisive to those relationships. Researchers have also found that empathetic teenagers are more likely to have high selfrespect. 38 Empathy is also an indication of a good leader. In fact,Freed says, many top companies report that empathy is one of the most important things they look for in new managers. 39 “Academics are important. But if you don't have emotional intelligence, you won't be as successful in work or in your love life,” she says. What's the best way to up your EQ ? For starters, let down your guard and really listen to others. 40 To really develop empathy, you'd better volunteer at a nursing home or a hospital, join a club or a team that has a diverse membership, have a “sharing circle” with your family,or spend time caring for pets at an animal shelter. A. Today, people spend more time alone and are less likely to join groups and clubs. B. “One doesn't develop empathy by doing a lot of talking,” Freed says. C. Humans learn by example and most of the examples on it are anything but empathetic. D. Empathy is a matter of learning how to understand someone else — both what they think and how they feel. E. Good social skills, including empathy, are a kind of “emotional intelligence” that will help you succeed in many areas of life. F. Besides, empathy can be a cure for loneliness, sadness, anxiety, and fear. G. Everyone is different, and levels of empathy differ from person to person. 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 For years I took the bus to school and back from where we live in Pennsylvania.
