2018-2019学年湖北省荆门市高二(上)期末英语试卷 一、阅读理解(本大题共15小题,共30.0分) A It is well-known that food and fruit are of great importance to our health. Embracing the following food or fruit in your breakfast makes you healthier and full of energy. Grapefruit "Even if you changed nothing else about your diet, eating half a grapefruit before each meal may help you lose up to a pound a week." says Patricia Bannan, author of Eat Right When the Time Is Right. "Researchers found that when obese people ate half a grapefruit before each meal, they dropped an average of 3.5 pounds over 12 weeks." she says. Bell Pepper Green, red or yellow, fresh or frozen, peppers are never a bad companion for your eggs. Thanks to their high vitamin C content, eating them can help burn stored fat. Studies also indicate that vitamin C helps muscles process a fatty acid called carnitine that's essential to muscle growth and recovery. Tart Cherry Tart cherries have been shown to benefit heart health as well as body weight in a study on obese rats. A 12-week study by the University of Michigan found that rats fed tart cherries showed a 9 percent belly fat reduction. Moreover, the researchers noted that the cherry consumption had great ability to alter the expression of fat genes. Enjoy them during breakfast to kick your morning off right. Sweet Potato Sweet potatoes are packed with nutrients and can help you burn fat. They are high in fiber and have a low glycemic index(血糖指数), which means they're absorbed slowly and keep you feeling full longer. Min Chen likes to use them to whip up a sweet potato hash. "I love any kind of this dish because it provides rich vitamins, minerals and fiber. It is very filling, which helps keep appetite and portions under control as the day goes on," she says. 1. "由于维生素C含量高,吃它们可以帮助燃烧储存的脂肪.Tart Cherry中的"A 12-week study by the University of Michigan found that rats fed tart cherries showed a 9 percent belly fat reduction."密歇根大学的一项为期12周的研究发现,食用酸樱桃的老鼠的腹部脂肪减少了9%.Sweet Potato中的"Sweet potatoes are packed with nutrients and can help you burn fat"红薯富含营养物质,可以帮助你燃烧脂肪. B It's widely acknowledged that reading makes you a smarter, better leader. But if you've been following the latest science, you'll also know that studies have shown regularly picking up a book might increase your empathy (共鸣)and protect you from feeling lonely, hopeless or suffering from dementia(痴呆) in later life. But obviously, that's not the end of the list. New research has discovered yet another benefit of being a reader who focuses one's mind on reading. After following those surveys based on more than 3,500 adults over age 50 for 12 years, the team from Yale University behind the research found that those who read books for 3.5 hours a week were 23 percent less likely to die. Reading for less than 3.5 hours a week lowered participants' risk of death by 17 percent. Put another way, picking up an interesting book could earn you about an extra two years. It's worth noticing that the researchers were looking exactly at time spent in reading books, rather than newspapers, magazines, or online media, and that this difference is important for the observed advantages of reading. "We found that reading books provided a greater advantage than reading newspapers or magazines," said Avni Bavishi of the Yale School of Public Health. "This effect is likely because books attract the readers' mind more - providing more cognitive (认知的)advantages, and therefore increasing the lifespan. In short, deep slow reading rather than reading quickly and carelessly is best." So how long should you be reading for, and what sort of titles should you pick up? While more reading seems to be better, the researchers suggest that anything more than 30 minutes a day will be likely to do good to you. As for what exactly to read, the researchers can't yet offer much advice beyond making time for actual books, though they pointed out this was a promising way to future research. 1. What's author's intention of writing the first paragraph? ______ A. To show the advantages of reading. B. To tell the importance of modern science. C. To explain the reasons for forming good habits. D. To list some benefits of reading magazines. 2. What information can you get from the research of Yale University? ______ A. Reading can build one's confidence. B. Reading quickly might make one feel good. C. Reading could help one live longer. D. Reading should be done regularly. 1. Why is it better to read books instead of newspapers or magazines? ______ A. It helps the readers to become more interested in the stories. B. It makes the readers think of their own past experiences. C. It offers the readers different practical skills of reading. D. It promotes the readers' abilities to know about things. 2. As for the future research, what will the author focus on? ______ A. Reading materials. B. Reading methods. C. Reading abilities. D. Reading purposes. 【答案】 【小题1】A 【小题2】C 【小题3】D 【小题4】A 【解析】答案:1-4ACDA 1. A.推理判断题.整个第一自然段都在说明阅读的好处:阅读使你更聪明,成为更好的领导者,使你远离孤独、绝望和痴呆,故选A. 2. C As we all know, many terms have special meanings. For example, The term " boomerang kids" refers to adult children who move back into their parents' house after a period of living on their own. Traditionally, Americans expect to finish their schooling, get a job, and then move out of their parents' home as soon as they become financially independent. Unlike in other countries where it is common for adult children to live with their parents until they marry, or even after they are married, in the U.S., adults living with their parents after graduating and getting a job is not the typical pattern. However, things may be changing. The current generation of young adults are being called the "boomerang generation" because the lack of jobs has driven many of them to move back in with their parents, after having lived on their own while in college or after getting a full-time job. Fewer parents are experiencing what we sometimes call an "empty nest", a home where the adult children leave and only the parents remain. In a study conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2011, about 30% of people ages 25 to 34 reported that they had moved back with their parents at one time or another. While many of these adult children say that this is a satisfactory situation, with over 75% of these young adults saying they like their living arrangement, sometimes it's not easy for the parents. 65% parents say that it is difficult to adjust to the return of their children, especially when deciding how much help to give them. How does this living arrangement affect the relationships between parents and adult children? About a quarter of the young adults say that their relationship with their parents has improved, a quarter say it has worsened, and about 50% say it hasn't had any effect either way. 1. What does the underlined phrase "boomerang kids" in the first paragraph mean? ______ A. People who still rely on their parents to live when becoming adults. B. People who care about their parents by living with them. C. People who are adults but quite mentally childish. D. People who can live in harmony with their parents. 2. What's the traditional pattern in America? ______ A. Young adults find a full-time job with their parents' help. B. Young adults live with their parents after graduation. C. Young adults go to college to get a degree. D. Young adults live independently and raise themselves. 3. What may result in the "boomerang generation" phenomenon? ______ A. Parents' good financial condition. B. The tough employment chance. C. Parents' overprotection. D. Parents' fear for the "empty nest". 4. According to the study by the Pew Research Center, how do the majority of the parents feel about the return of their children? ______ A. Excited. B. Unaccustomed. D. Unaffected. C. Acceptable. 【答案】 【小题1】A 【小题2】D 【小题3】B 【小题4】B 【解析】(1)---(4)ADBB (1).A.细节理解题.根据第一段第二句The term " boomerang kids" refers to adult children who move back into their parents' house after a period of living on their own(回巢族指的是长大的独立生活一段时间后又回去和父母同住的孩子们)可知,boomerang kids大约相当于我国的啃老族.故选A. (2).D.推理判断题.根据第二段第一句Traditionally, Americans expect to finish their schooling, get a job, and then move out of their parents' home as soon as they become financially independent(传统上,美国人希望他们完成学业找到工作经济独立后,就会离开父母的家)可知,美国家庭的传统模式是年轻人独立生活养活自己.故选D. (3).B.推理判断题.根据第三段第二句 The current generation of young adults are being called the "boomerang generation" because the lack of jobs has driven many of them to move back in with their parents(这些年轻人之所以被称作"回巢族"是因为缺少工作机会迫使他们搬回家和父母住在一起)可知," 回巢族"现象是由于就业市场很艰难( tough )导致的.故选B. (4).B.细节理解题.根据第四段最后一句65% parents say that it is difficult to adjust to the return of their children,…(65%的家长说很难适应孩子们回来居住…) D It's reported that managers and office busybodies might be keen on a clean desk, but it seems that in terms of productivity, they could have it all wrong. "A messy desk can actually lead people towards clearer thinking," say researchers from Germany. The researchers found in a series of linked studies - using a messy desk and a messy shop front - that people actually thought more clearly when all around was chaos, as they sought to simplify the tasks at hand. That is, visual and mental clutter (杂乱) forces human beings to focus and think more clearly. For instance, famous thinkers and writers such as Albert Einstein and Roald Dahl have been notorious (臭名昭著的) for their untidy desks. "Messy desks may not be as detrimental as they appear to be, as the problem-solving approaches they seem to promote work efficiency or enhance employees' creativity in problem solving," say the authors. "Business and government managers often promote ‘clean desk' policies to avoid disorganized offices and messy desks, for the purpose of boosting work efficiency and productivity," writes a researcher, Jia Liu of the University of Groningen. "This practice is based on the conventional wisdom that a disorganized and messy environment can clutter one's mind and complicate one's judgments." "However, not all evidence supports this conventional link between a messy environment and a messy mind". The scientists tested people's response in various messy environments, including a messy shop front, a disorganized desk, and even a work environment where a language task reminded people of messiness. The authors found in the series of six studies that people tended towards simplicity in their thinking."They classified products in a simpler manner, were willing to pay more for a T-shirt that has a simple-looking picture, and sought less variety in their choices", said the researchers. 1. Why Albert Einstein and Ronald Dahl are mentioned in Para.2? ______ A. To tell readers untidy desks can make you as famous as them. B. To attract readers and show the author's wide range of knowledge. C. To convince readers that untidiness is not all that bad. D. To inform readers of one way to success-untidy desks. 1. The underlined word "detrimental" probably mean ______ . A. common B. accessible C. beneficial D. unfavorable 2. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? ______ A. All people are not in favor of "clean desk" in the office. B. A messy environment will certainly result in a messy mind. C. A clean environment will do great harm to work efficiency. D. A messy environment has nothing to do with judgment. 3. What is the main idea of this passage? ______ A. The messier the desks are, the more efficient the employees are. B. Messy desks in the office can actually have a positive influence on employees. C. We should make our office messy to improve our work efficiency. D. Clean desks can promote the employees' productivity and creativity. 【答案】 【小题1】C 【小题2】D 【小题3】A 【小题4】B 【解析】1---4 CDAB 1.C.细节题.第二段倒数第二句That is, visual and mental clutter (杂乱) forces human beings to focus and think more clearly." 根据下句as the problem-solving approaches they seem to promote work efficiency or enhance employees' creativity in problem solving," say the authors. However, not all evidence supports this conventional link between a messy environment and a messy mind". 可知"然而,并非所有证据都支持这种混乱环境与凌乱心灵之间的传统联系".说明"并不是所有人都赞成办公室里清洁的桌子".故选A. 4.B.主旨大意题.第一段最后一句A messy desk can actually lead people towards clearer thinking," say researchers from Germany. 二、阅读七选五(本大题共5小题,共10.0分) Saving money while traveling There are a lot of matters to think on before going out on a trip.
