Right now she is probably writing an encouraging note to a friend, praising someone she has come across in the hallway, or reading the newspaper to someone in her retirement community(社区). Growing up, my mother thought about becoming a dancer, but she didn't have the chance until retirement. Then she joined her first group, The Hot Flashes. Once she - 27 - put on the tap shoes, "Dancing Grammy” was born. There seems to be no end to her energy as she tap-dances her way into people's hearts, bringing smiles to sad places. But this is nothing new for my mother. Being a lifetime educator, she was recognized in 2015 as her school district's Teacher of the Year. I remember her evening phone calls to her students' homes when she took a break from grading papers. They weren't the typical bad-news calls many parents would expect. Usually she was calling about something positive. I was the youngest of seven children and life wasn't easy for my mother. I remember sitting on the back of her bike as she took me to a daycare center for low-income families on her way to Rosary College, where she was seeking an education degree. At home she was tough as she had to be. She had been strict in my childhood, but I learned from watching her. Her work ethic(道德)and determination passed down to me. I could write a book about my mother, and probably I will someday. Better yet, we may write one together, as her dream to be a writer hasn't yet been realized. But she got one step closer by attending the Erma Bombeek Writers* Workshop in Dayton, Ohio, where she was inspired to write a book. From mother of seven to grandmother of eighteen, my mother continues to inspire everyone she meets. She has many titles, but my favorite is Mother. 4. What does the author's mother tend to do? A. She often helps poor people. B. She changes her aims constantly. C. She joins energetic people. D. She brings happiness to others. 5. Why did the author's mother often make calls to her students, homes? A. To know her students' performance at home. B. To help her students' parents build confidence. C. To tell her students' parents some good news. D. To ask her students to grade their papers fast. 6. How was the author's childhood? A. Dull but smooth, B. Difficult but rewarding. C. Relaxing and enjoyable. D. Rough and meaningless. - 27 - 7. What is the author's main purpose in writing the text? A. To show her love and respect for her mother. B To keep a record of her mother's retirement life. C. To find inspiration to write a book for her mother. D. To praise her mothers professional achievements. 【答案】4. D 5. C 6. B 7. A 【解析】 这是一篇记叙文。作者讲述自己妈妈的故事。作者的妈妈总是给别人带来快乐。 【4题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段My mother spreads joy wherever she goes. Right now she is probably writing an encouraging note to a friend, praising someone she has come across in the hallway, or reading the newspaper to someone in her retirement community(社区).“我母亲无论走到哪里都传播欢乐。现在,她可能正在给朋友写一封鼓励信,赞扬某个她在走廊上遇到的人,或者给某个她所在的退休社区的人读报纸。”由此可知,作者的妈妈给别人带来快乐。故选D。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中I remember her evening phone calls to her students' homes when she took a break from grading papers. They weren't the typical bad-news calls many parents would expect. Usually she was calling about something positive.“我记得她晚上批改作业休息时,给学生家里打了电话。这并不是许多家长所期待的典型的坏消息。通常她打电话是为了一些积极的事情。”由此可知,作者的母亲经常给学生家里打电话是为了告诉她的学生的父母一些好消息。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中I remember sitting on the back of her bike as she took me to a daycare center for low-income families on her way to Rosary College, where she was seeking an education degree.“我记得在她去罗萨里学院(Rosary College)攻读教育学学位的路上,她带我去了一家面向低收入家庭的日托中心,我坐在她的自行车后座上。”和 She had been strict in my childhood, but I learned from watching her. Her work ethic(道德)and determination passed down to me. - 27 - “她在我小时候很严厉,但我从她身上学到了很多。她的职业道德和决心遗传给了我。”由此可知,作者的童年虽然困难但是值得的。故选B。 【7题详解】 目的意图题。根据最后一段From mother of seven to grandmother of eighteen, my mother continues to inspire everyone she meets. She has many titles, but my favorite is Mother.“从7个孩子的母亲到18个孩子的祖母,我的母亲继续激励着她遇到的每一个人。她有很多头衔,但我最喜欢的是Mother。”由此可知作者写这篇文章的目的是来表达她对母亲的爱和尊重。故选A。 C More often than not, we think the taste of food is largely to do with the way it's cooked. However, according to a new study published in the Journal of Consumer Research, sitting and standing also affect the taste. Lead author Dipayan Biswas, a professor from the University of South Florida in the US, looked specifically at how the vestibular(前庭的)sense, which is responsible for balance, posture(姿势)and location awareness, works with our sense of taste. He found that standing for even a few minutes causes people to feel physical stress. Gravity pushes blood to the lower parts of the body, causing the heart to work harder. This increases the heart rate and leads to increased stress hormones(荷尔蒙).All of these reduce sensory sensitivity, which affects taste. Our mouths fail to taste or feel temperature as well when this happens. When people experience discomfort, foods that normally taste good aren't as pleasing, says Science Daily. Biswas gave 350 participants each a piece of biscuit and had them rate its tastiness. Those who stood while eating gave it a lower rating than those who sat in comfortable chairs. Next, Biswas and his team gave participants bite-sized cookies from a well-known local restaurant. These cookies are widely considered to be very tasty. Those who sat down to eat rated them highly. However, when the baker added extra salt, the results were opposite. Participants who stood up to eat the cookies didn't notice that the cookies tasted saltier, while those who were seated found the cookies weren't so tasty. - 27 - So if you really want to enjoy your meal, try to find yourself a comfortable seat. But if you're trying to lose weight, eating while standing could be helpful because people tend to eat less while standing. 8. What's the common belief about the taste of the food in the text? A. It seems associated with people's preferences. B. It is largely to do with how people sit or stand. C. It has little to do with the way people eat food. D. It is mainly determined by how food is cooked. 9. Why do people who stand less enjoy food? A. Their mental health declines. B. Their hearts work more slowly. C. They are less sensitive to taste. D. They have no sensory sensitivity. 10. How did Dipayan Biswas get his conclusions in paragraph 4? A. By classifying examples. B. By doing experiments. C. By studying previous theories. D. By analyzing abundant data. 11. What's the best title for the text? A. Sitting Has Various Effects on Eating B. Posture Affects How People Enjoy Food C. Eating While Standing Helps to Lose Weight D. Sitting and Standing Are Common Postures 【答案】8. D 9. C 10. B 11. B 【解析】 【分析】 这是一篇说明文。文章通过实例介绍姿势影响人们如何享受食物。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段More often than not, we think the taste of food is largely to do with the way it's cooked. “通常情况下,我们认为食物的味道很大程度上与烹饪方法有关。”由此可知,人们关于食物味道的普遍看法是这主要取决于食物是如何烹饪的。故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中He found that standing for even a few minutes causes people - 27 - to feel physical stress. Gravity pushes blood to the lower parts of the body, causing the heart to work harder. This increases the heart rate and leads to increased stress hormones(荷尔蒙).All of these reduce sensory sensitivity, which affects taste.“他发现,站立哪怕几分钟都会让人感到身体压力。重力将血液推到身体的下部,导致心脏工作更困难。这会增加心率,导致应激激素增加。所有这些都会降低感官敏感度,从而影响味觉。”由此可知,人站着吃东西少是因为他们对味道不太敏感。故选C。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中Biswas gave 350 participants each a piece of biscuit and had them rate its tastiness. Those who stood while eating gave it a lower rating than those who sat in comfortable chairs. Next, Biswas and his team gave participants bite-sized cookies from a well-known local restaurant.“Biswas给了350名参与者每人一块饼干,并让他们评价饼干的味道。那些站着吃饭的人比那些坐在舒适椅子上的人给出的评价要低。接下来,Biswas和他的团队给参与者吃当地一家著名餐馆的一口大小的饼干。”由此可知,Dipayan Biswas在第4段通过做实验得出结论。故选B。 【11题详解】 标题判断题。根据第1段More often than not, we think the taste of food is largely to do with the way it's cooked. However, according to a new study published in the Journal of Consumer Research, sitting and standing also affect the taste.“通常情况下,我们认为食物的味道很大程度上与烹饪方法有关。然而,根据发表在《消费者研究杂志》上的一项新研究,坐着和站着也会影响口感。”由此可知,B项Posture Affects How People Enjoy Food“姿势影响人们如何享受食物。” More often than not, we think the taste of food is largely to do with the way it's cooked. “通常情况下,我们认为食物的味道很大程度上与烹饪方法有关。”由此可知,文章中关于食物味道的普遍看法是这主要取决于食物是如何烹饪的。故选D。 D - 27 - In the old days, when you had to drive to a movie theater to get some entertainment, it was easy to see how your actions could have an impact(影响)on the environment. After all, you were jumping into your car, driving across town, coughing out emissions(产生排放)and using gas all the way. But now that we're used to staying at home and streaming movies, we might get a little proud. After all, we're just picking up our phones and maybe turning on the TV. You're welcome. Mother Nature. Not so fast, says a recent report from the French-based Shift Project. According to "Climate Crisis: The Unsustainable Use of Online Video", digital technologies are responsible for 4% of greenhouse gas emissions, and that energy use is increasing by 9% a year. Watching a half-hour show would cause 1. 6 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions. That's like driving 6. 28 kilometers. And in the European Union, the Eureca project found that data centers (where videos are stored) there used 25% more energy in 2017 compared to just three years earlier, reports the BBC. Streaming is only expected to increase as we become more enamored of our digital devices (设备)and the possibility of enjoying entertainment where and when we want it increases. Online video use is expected to increase by four times from 2017 to 2022 and account for 80% of all Internet traffic by 2022. By then, about 60% of the world's population will be online. You're probably not going to give up your streaming services, but there're things you can do to help lessen the impact of your online use, experts say. For example, according to Lutz Stobbe, a researcher from the Fraunhofer Institute in Berlin, we have no need to upload 25 pictures of the same thing to the cloud because it consumes energy every time. If instead you delete a few things here and there, you can save energy. Moreover, it's also a good idea to stream over Wi-Fi, watch on the smallest screen you can, and turn off your Wi-Fi in your home if you're not using your devices. 12. What topic is the first paragraph intended to lead in? A. The environmental effects of driving private cars. B. The improvements on environmental awareness. C. The change in the way people seek entertainment. D. The environmental impacts of screaming services. - 27 - 13. What does the underlined phrase become more enamored of" in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Get more skeptical of. B. Become more aware of. C. Feel much crazier about. D. Get more worried about. 14. What can we infer about the use of streaming services? A. It is being reduced to protect the planet. B. Its environmental effects are worsening. C. It is easily available to almost everyone. D. Its side effects have drawn global attention. 15. Which of the following is the most environmentally-friendly? A. Watching downloaded movies on a mobile phone. B. Downloading music on a personal computer. C. Uploading a lot of images of the same thing. D. Playing online games over mobile networks. D 13. C 14. B 15. In the old days, when you had to drive to a movie theater to get some entertainment, it was easy to see how your actions could have an impact(影响)on the environment.“在过去,当你开车去电影院看电影的时候,很容易就能看到你的行为对环境的影响。” Online video use is expected to increase by four times from 2017 to 2022 and account for 80% of all Internet traffic by 2022. By then, about 60% of the world's population will be - 27 - online.“从2017年到2022年,在线视频的使用预计将增加4倍,到2022年占所有互联网流量的80%。 Streaming is only expected to increase as we become more enamored of our digital devices (设备)and the possibility of enjoying entertainment where and when we want it increases.“流媒体只会随着我们越来越迷恋我们的数字设备和随时随地享受娱乐的可能性的增加而增加。” The Unsustainable Use of Online Video", digital technologies are responsible for 4% of greenhouse gas emissions, and that energy use is increasing by 9% a year. Watching a half-hour show would cause 1. 6 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions.“数字技术造成了4%的温室气体排放,而能源消耗每年以9%的速度增长。看半小时的节目会导致6千克的二氧化碳排放。”第三段中Online video use is expected to increase by four times from 2017 to 2022 and account for 80% of all Internet traffic by 2022.“从2017年到2022年,在线视频的使用预计将增加4倍,到2022年占所有互联网流量的80%。”关于流媒体服务的使用,我们可以推断出它对环境的影响正在恶化。故选B。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中If instead you delete a few things here and there, you can save energy. Moreover, it's also a good idea to stream over Wi-Fi, watch on the smallest screen you can, and turn off your Wi-Fi in your home if you're not using your devices.“相反,如果你删除一些东西,你可以节省能源。此外,通过Wi-Fi上网也是个不错的主意,你可以在最小的屏幕上观看,如果你不使用设备,可以关掉家里的Wi-Fi。”由此可知,“用手机看下载的电影”是最环保的。故选A。 【点睛】做推理判断题时,要求考生在阅读时,要抓住文章的主题和细节,分析文章结构,根据上下文内在联系,挖掘文章的深层含义。在进行推理时,考生一定要仔细阅读短文,千万不可脱离原文而仅凭个人的看法,主观臆断。本题第3小题,根据最后一段中You're probably not going to give up your streaming services, but there're things you can do to help lessen the impact of your online use, experts say.“你可能不会放弃你的流媒体服务,但你可以做一些事情来帮助减少你的在线使用的影响。” 关于流媒体服务的使用,我们可以推断出它对环境的影响正在恶化。故选B。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 - 27 - We've all been there, staring at a blank screen, throwing endless drafts in the trash can, pulling out hair, looking through Facebook photos, re-ordering music libraries and even wiping the computer clean.
