So how do young people manage to express their individual (个人的) style? We interviewed some Brits in different parts of the country.‎ ‎“Young creative people in the UK have always come up with ways to express their individuality through clothes. Punks added zips (拉链) and safety pins (别针), and skaters buy chains (链条) from hardware shops to hang from their trousers. You don’t need money – you need imagination,” said Alexi, art student, Aldershot.‎ Printing your own T-shirt is the easiest and most common way to customise (定制) clothes. You don’t have to actually make a T-shirt. You can buy a cheap one and add an image (图像) of your choice.‎ ‎“I used to make customised, multicoloured T-shirts for my friends using fabric (织物) paints. They looked a bit messy but sort of cool. A couple of years ago, my mate Simon made one with a picture of Obama dressed as Che Guevara. He still wears it in fact. It looks great,” said John, 25, Cheshire.‎ Everyone knows that students don’t have a lot of money. That doesn’t have to be a problem if you’ve got a bit of imagination.‎ ‎“I used to make clothes sometimes when I was a student. Once I found a pair of trousers in a shop that I really liked, but I couldn’t afford them. I did a little sketch (素描) in a notebook, bought some fabric in the same colour and copied the trousers using my mum’s sewing machine (缝纫机). I loved it when people didn’t believe I had made them myself,” said Corrine, 31, Dundee.‎ Buying second-hand or “vintage (复古的)” clothes is a fashion option for many young Brits.‎ ‎“I like to make or adapt (改造) my own clothes because I know that they will fit and that they’ll look good. I buy stuff like jackets, trousers and dresses in second-hand shops. You can be sure you will always have something original as well as cheap,” said Helen, 26, Nottingham.‎ ‎24. According to Alexi, which of the following things best allows young people to express their individual style?‎ A. Money. B. Creativity.‎ C. Taste. D. Courage.‎ ‎25. What does John think is a good way to express one’s individuality?‎ A. Adapting vintage T-shirts. B. Buying multicolored T-shirts.‎ C. Printing images on T-shirts. D. Adding zips and safety pins to T-shirts.‎ ‎26. What makes Corrine proud of herself?‎ A. Learning sewing skills from her mother.‎ B. Making trousers by herself.‎ C. Being able to afford expensive trousers.‎ D. Wearing fashionable second-hand trousers.‎ ‎27. What is the article mainly about?‎ A. Why young people like to look different.‎ B. The trend of customizing clothes in the UK.‎ C. Popular clothes among young Brits.‎ D. How young Brits show their personality through clothes.‎ C Have you ever thought of getting away from the present life and doing something completely different? Well, here are some people who have done just that.‎ Back to the land In his early forties, Peter Van Der Groot was a successful salesman. He had a large beautiful home. But Peter worked long hours, and he saw little of his home and family. He enjoyed his job, but he was never there to see his children growing up. Then last year, the firm (公司) he worked for closed down, and, unexpectedly, Peter had the chance to do something different.‎ So Peter and his family sold their house in London and moved to the countryside. They bought a smaller house with some land. Today, Peter is more relaxed. He spends time with his children, and he has seen them change into healthy, happy kids. He’s started working on his land, growing fruit and vegetables. Now he and his family have a common, but comfortable life.‎ Life in the sun Husband and wife Rob and Manda Brent used to be teachers, but they have both given up their jobs, and neither of them plans to return to the school where they worked inBirmingham’s city centre. Now they live in Italy, where they’ve bought a farmhouse in Tuscan Hills. “We’re going to offer bed and breakfast,” said Rob. “We’ve never had our own business before, so it’ll be quite a challenge (挑战). And we’ve borrowed a lot of money from the bank to get started.”‎ ‎“In this first three-month period, we’re settling in and repairing the farmhouse,” said Manda. “Then we’ll open our doors to guests.” Bed and breakfast will not be the only way for them to get money, though. “The farm has got olive (橄榄) trees and the equipment (设备) for producing olive oil.”‎ ‎28. What caused Peter to change his life?‎ A. He lost his job.‎ B. He led a hard life.‎ C. He had to care for his kids.‎ D. He wasn’t satisfied with his job.‎ ‎29. What change has taken place since Peter moved to the countryside?‎ A. He lives a busier life.‎ B. He has set up his own firm.‎ C. He has built a large beautiful house.‎ D. He spends more time with his family.‎ ‎30. What experience have Rob and Manda had?‎ A. Selling farm produce.‎ B. Running a school in Italy.‎ C. Serving breakfast for months.‎ D. Teaching in a Birmingham school.‎ ‎31. What will Rob and Manda’s farmhouse be mainly used as?‎ A. A farm.‎ B. A hotel.‎ C. A school.‎ D. A restaurant.‎ D Susan couldn’t help it. She and her friends began lunch with cheese. Then they ate cheeseburgers and drank milk. Things seemed fine, but then suddenly Susan’s stomach started making noise. Her stomach hurt, and, racing to the restroom, she had terrible gas! She was so ashamed. She had been so excited to go to lunch with her friends that she totally forgot to watch ‎ how many dairy products (奶制品) she ate! Susan is lactose intolerant (乳糖不耐受的), and eating too many dairy foods can make her feel really sick.‎ Lactose intolerance means that the body can’t easily digest (消化) a special sugar called lactose. Unfortunately for Susan and millions of other people with this problem, lactose is found in almost all dairy products — cheese, milk and ice cream.‎ Our body uses lactase (乳糖酵素) to break lactose into a simpler form of sugar. Once lactose is broken down, it’s easy to digest and it provides great energy for the body. But people like Susan don’t have enough lactase to break down all the lactose they take in. So, about half an hour to two hours after eating dairy-rich foods, their stomachs begin to hurt and they have gas, making their stomachs get bigger. Sometimes they even get diarrhea (腹泻) when they eat too many dairy foods.‎ So how can someone living with this problem still eat out with his or her friends? Here are some tips. If you’re going to eat a dairy-rich food like ice cream, eat something that doesn’t have any dairy with it, like a salad or a sandwich without cheese. This will help slow digestion, and your body will have time to create more lactase.‎ ‎32. What can cause lactose intolerance?‎ A. A shortage of lactose.‎ B. Eating too little sugar.‎ C. Slow digestion of dairy products.‎ D. Poor digestion of any food you eat.‎ ‎33. What do we know about lactose?‎ A. It is found in almost all foods.‎ B. It is very necessary for the body.‎ C. It is hard for some people to break down.‎ D. It changes its form once it is in the body.‎ ‎34. What is a result of lactose intolerance?‎ A. The headache.‎ B. The stomachache.‎ C. The feeling of hunger.‎ D. The feeling of tiredness.‎ ‎35. What would be the best advice for Susan?‎ A. Enjoy eating dairy-rich foods.‎ B. Avoid eating out with her friends.‎ C. Take digestion pills to speed up digestion.‎ D. Eat dairy-free and diary-rich foods together.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ A long and healthy life Everyone wants to be healthy and live a long time. 36 Some years ago, a 90-year-old American writer gave some advice for a long and healthy life:‎ ‎• Believe in yourself.‎ ‎• Keep your mind active.‎ ‎• Be positive (乐观的).‎ ‎• Love people and enjoy helping others.‎ The women of Okinawa, in Japan, are another great example. 37 Their secret? They exercise every day, they don’t have much stress in their lives, and, in general, they are positive and active.‎ But of course, diet is important, too. 38 They eat some meat, but they don’t eat any fat from the meat. And they eat seaweed (海藻). This is good for your heart.‎ The Mediterranean diet is very healthy, too. It includes vegetables, tomatoes, fish, beans, cheese and rice. 39 It comes from olive oil and from fish.‎ So, what do these two diets tell us?‎ ‎• Don’t eat any bad fats — like fats in sweets, fried food and meat.‎ ‎• Eat healthy vegetables, fruit, potatoes and rice.‎ ‎• 40 If you use oil, use a good one like olive oil. And avoid deep-fried food!‎ ‎• If you’re a little hungry, eat an apple or a carrot — not a bag of potato chips!‎ Eat well, live an active and stress-free life, and you’ll live a long time.‎ A. But how can we do it?‎ B. The fat in this diet is “good fat”.‎ C. Be active and do exercise every day.‎ D. Don’t use too much oil when cooking.‎ E. Why do the Japanese women live the longest?‎ F. The Okinawa women eat fish, green vegetables, carrots, fruit and sweet potatoes.‎ G. They live a long time, they are very healthy and they don’t have many diseases or heart problems.‎ 第三部分: 语言知识运用 (共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。‎ I used to be a radio broadcaster.
