I didn't use to have many close friends when I was at school because I was very shy,but now I have several. They are all women. I think it's difficult to have a close friend of the opposite sex(异性). ---Marie I think a close friend is someone who you've known for a long time, and who you still get on with. They have similar hobbies to you so you can do things together. I've got three close friends who I was at middle school with and we often go out together (without our parents of course). We often go camping, play football,or walk outside in the open air. ---David I'm not sure how to answer the question because I don't really have any close friends. I know a lot of people but mainly through work, and the social occasions(场合) when we meet are business dinners, things like that. I think if you come from a really close family, friends are a bit unnecessary. I like spending my free time with my family. ---Richard For me close friends are the people you spend your free time with. I go out at weekends with a group of people, and they are all my close friends. They're also people who live near me. I don't think you can have close friends at a distance because you need to be able to see each other often. But I don't think you need to be doing the same things. I mean I'm at school but none of my friends are. ---Anna 21. Who doesn’t think women and men can be close friends? A. Marie. B. David. C. Richard. D. Anna. 22. What does Richard say about friends? A. They need to have much in common. B. They’re less important than family. C. They must work in the same place. D. They come from social occasions. 23. What do we know about Anna’s friends? A. They are all women. B. They all do the same things. C. They do not live far away. D. They are all college students. B There are some differences between American English and British English. Some differences are quite interesting. When my friend Lily from London used the word “larder”, I didn’t know what it meant. Realizing I didn’t follow her, she used another word. I finally knew she wanted to find something to keep some food. The next word came up when we were planning a lunch date. She jotted down the date and time in her diary, while I marked my calendar. If she called me on the phone, she would ring me up. But if the line was busy, she would say the line was engaged. Most times, I can know what Lily means. Last week, she regretted sending her boys to watch an early morning tennis game without their fleeces. I thought that she meant without their jackets or something like those. Other times, we have to ask each other. She recently told me a funny tale about a woman who was pissed. I wondered what had made the lady angry. It turns out that pissed means drunk. Here is one more example. My British friend Jane was filling out a ticket at the grocery store recently. She asked the young man if he had a rubber. When she noticed he didn’t follow her, she quickly asked for an eraser, which, in England, is often called a rubber. In order to communicate well with the British, we Americans should learn some words that the British use differently. And I think people who learn English as a second language should also realize that there are differences between American English and British English. 24. When Lily used the word “larder”, what was she probably looking for? A. A ladder. B. A cupboard. C. Some food. D. A cook. 25. What does the underlined phrase “jotted down” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Wrote down. B. Settled down. C. Looked for. D. Learned about. 26. According to the text, in British English, ________. A. the word “fleeces” means “tickets” B. the word “pissed” means “angry” C. the word “”engaged” means “broken” D. the word “rubber” means “eraser” 27. How is the text mainly developed? A. By order in time. B. By comparing. C. By listing examples. D. By giving explanations. C 83-year-oldAntonioVicentehas spent the last four decades of his life fighting against the current. Antonio had grown up on a rural farm, and watched his father and the other villagers cut down forests at the owners’ orders, either for charcoal production or to clear land for grazing cattle. He had watched the ancient water sources dry upand people struggling to survive. With only some donkeys and a few hired workers Antonio brought back the forest to his land. What started out as a weekend hobby soon became a permanent way of life. Antonio often recalls spending days and nights in his young jungle, surrounded by rats and foxes, and eating banana for breakfast, lunch and dinner. As the forest grew, the water returned, and Antonio says that there are now over 20 water sources on his land that were no longer there when he bought it. Then the animals started making a home there. Today, the forest is alive with sounds of birds and insects living there, and more species are settling in every year. 28. Antonio has made big profits. C. Antonio’s forest has become a zoo. D. Antonio is living with animals. D A new study, conducted by British company Mindlab International, has found that listening to music at work increases accuracy (精确) and speed, The Telegraph reported. Perhaps, some parents disagree with this idea, saying, "Switch off the music and concentrate!" Well, if that's the case with your parents, you might now be able to convince them that you have science on your side. The company gave 26 participants (参与者)a series of different tasks for five days in a row, including spell checking, mathematical word problems, data entry, and abstract reasoning. The participants completed these tasks while listening to music or no music at all. The results showed that while music was playing, 88% of participants produced their most accurate test results and 81% completed their fastest work. David Lewis, chairman of Mindlab International, told The Telegraph, "Music is a very powerful management tool if you want to increase not only the efficiency of your workforce but also their emotional state... they are going to become more positive about the work." However, you may have a list of your favorite songs, but not all kinds of music match all homework. For maths or other subjects involving numbers or attention to detail, you should listen to classical music, the study found. In the study, pop music enabled participants to complete their tasks 58% faster than when listening to no music at all. If you are reviewing your English writing, pop music is the best choice, as it is the best kind for spell checking. It cut mistakes by 14%, compared to listening to no music. After finishing your homework, do you often take time to check your answers? Maybe, some dance music is suitable for you. 32.What did the participants have to do in the study? A. Persuade their parents to listen to music. B. Do a series of work without rest or pause. C. Complete five tasks in five days without help. D. Finish tasks with music or without music at all. 33.What does the underlined word "they" in Para 4 refer to? A. Results. B. Tools. C. Participants. D. Tests. 34.When you review your English writing, what kind of music should you listen to? A. Classical music. B. Dance music. C. Pop music. D. Rock music. 35.What is the best title for the text? A. Music Helps Us to Learn B. We Can’t Live Without Music C. Not All Music Suits You D. Listen to Different Music 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to calm your teens A major source of teen stress is school exams, and test anxiety is not uncommon. When you recognize your teen is under stress, how can parents help your teen stay calm before an exam? Be involved. Parents need to be involved in their teen's work. 36 What they look for is your presence - to talk, to cry, or simply to sit with them quietly. Communicate openly with your teen. Encourage your teen to express his worries and fears, but don't let them focus on those fears. Help them get organized. 37 Together, you and your teen can work out a time-table in which she can study for what she knows will be on the test. Provide a calm setting. Help your teen set up a quiet place to study and protect his privacy. Give them a nutritious diet. It's important for your teen to eat a healthy, balanced diet during exam times to focus and do her best. 38 If this happens, encourage your teen to eat light meals or sandwiches. A healthy diet, rather than junk food, is best for reducing stress. 39 Persuade your teenager to get some sleep and/or do something active when she needs a real break from studying. Making time for relaxation, fun, and exercise are all important in reducing stress. Help your teen balance her time so that she will feel comfortable taking time out from studying to spend time with friends or rest.
