Housing has become a major obstacle(障碍)for Chinese young men hoping to start a family.‎ ‎ China may breed a new group of bachelors, men caught in the trap of unaffordable houses. Since early 2009, the housing market has once again become a hot pot at boiling point. Even with allowance(津贴)and special government policies, home prices in China's first-tier cities such as Beijing and Shanghai are riding the crest(波峰)of a rising wave. According to the "2010 China Marital Status Report" released on Dec 15, 2010, about 70 percent of women interviewed said that housing, a stable income and some savings were the main requirements for marriage. From the report, we can see that housing is given top priority(优先权)and that women see an apartment as essential to show that the man is responsible and can provide for his family. Personality and morals lay outside the top three matrimonial(婚姻的)requirements. Some women and their families hold the traditional position and take it for granted that the home issue should be the man's responsibility, which doesn’t agree with the contemporary independent spirit of women and gender equality. ‎ These marriage values reflect the fact that many women consider marriage another form of "social welfare". Things may be different overseas. Social housing, provided by European authorities, offer the less wealthy people their own piece of real estate. Such housing is usually apartments in tall buildings with 10 or more floors on the outskirts of town, whose main advantage is the low rents. For many Americans, houses don't pose an obstacle to getting married. They often buy a house after the wedding, because more and more people are reconsidering their real estate worship, and going back to a more rational(理性的) mode of consumption. In Japan, renting is the custom for newly married young couples. Few young couples can afford to purchase property. Up to 67.1 percent of young couples choose to rent. Generally speaking, renters account for most people younger than ‎40 in Japan. Young people should be free to enjoy being young, without the huge pressure of trying to buy property. Society should help create an environment for them to grow up. Don't let the poor bachelor group become a suffering layer of our society. 24. Which of the following is Not True according to the text?‎ A.Home prices have been extremely high since early 2009.‎ B. Lots of Chinese young men couldn’t get married because of their economic ability.‎ C. In the modern society, women don’t want to be independent.[]‎ D. Chinese government has already done something to control home prices.‎ ‎25. What does the underlined word “outskirts” probably mean?‎ A.suburbs B.rural areas(乡下)‎ C.urban areas D.downtown areas ‎26. Why do many women take housing as one of the main requirements for marriage?‎ A.Because they can’t afford a house.‎ B.Because they enjoy their social welfare.‎ C.Because their families want them to marry men with houses.‎ D.Because they think it’s a symbol of the men’s sense of responsibility.‎ ‎27. The author uses the examples of European countries, America and Japan to show that ‎ ‎__________?‎ A.new couples in those countries like to rent houses B.It’s better to live in those countries than live in China.‎ C.the situation is different in some foreign countries D.their governments have done more than Chinese government C China is now sending more college students to study in the United States than any other country. A new report shows a 23 percent increase in the number of Chinese students coming to the U.S.‎ The latest edition of the annual Institute of International Education(IIE)and another US institute found a 5 percent rise in the number of international university students in the US compared to one year ago. There are now over 157, 000 Chinese students at U.S. colleges and universities.‎ Asia accounted for four of the top five countries and regions to take advantage of the US higher education system. “Increased numbers of students from China, particularly at the undergraduate level, largely accounts for the growth this past year,” the report stated. “They really enroll in a full range of US higher education,” said Peggy Blumenthal, senior counselor to the president of IIE, the group that made the report. “20 years ago, students from China only knew of ‎ a handful of US institutions, but now, they are enrolling in our community colleges, in our small liberal arts institutions, in the research universities. Really spread across the country,” she said.‎ Chinese mainland was in the number one spot, while India was the number two country of origin. South Korea was third and Canada was number four. China’s Taiwan held the number five spot. Saudi Arabia was in sixth with a 44-percent increase, while Japan was seventh, down 14 percent.‎ Blumenthal attributes(把…… 归因于) the increase in the number of Chinese students heading to US colleges to limited university places in China, as well as a feeling from students and their parents than they want a “unique” educational experience. China’s family planning policy, says Blumenthal, has also meant that families can concentrated resources on a single child.‎ The University of California at Los Angeles has one of the largest Asian student populations of any college in the United States.‎ ‎28. Which ranked the third place sharing US higher education?‎ A.Saudi Arabia B.Canada C. South Korea D.India ‎29. Why is the number of Chinese students going to the US increasing?‎ A.The US colleges are better than those in China.‎ B.China lacks enough educational resources.‎ C. Each family in China has only one child..‎ D.Chinese students can enter varieties of US colleges.‎ ‎30. Which of the following is right according to Peggy Blumenthal?‎ A.The number of Chinese students going to the US has increased by 23%.‎ B.The University of California has contributed to Asian education greatly.‎ C.Chinese student populations in the US mainly consist of undergraduates.‎ D.Chinese students know more about US higher education than before.‎ ‎31. He had to walk with the support of his hands. A long time back,a few friends took a walk on the street with the inspiration to do a small act of kindness. One of his kind behavior is the Tulsi Project. Whenever he learns of a family with some arguments or even violent abuse(辱骂),Raghu courageously walks in to spread good cheer and gifts them a tulsi plant. Most of these are complete strangers. Sometimes he’ll recite a prayer;sometimes he’ll share stories. To start 2011,Raghu gave birth to one of his dreams. When he lived out on the streets,he often felt deeply moved by others on the streets who had even less than him.‎ He made a vow to himself that he would return to serve them one day,and that day had arrived for him. He put together a team of five everyday folks (one of whom is blind),who would make small sacrifices(牺牲)in their own lives to support delivery of handcooked meals for some of the absolutely neglected people on the streets. They appropriately named it “Tyaag Nu Tiffin”(Food of Sacrifice).Every day at 12∶30 PM and at 7∶30 PM,Raghu starts off on his hand tricycle to deliver the food. It’s the same food he himself eats, but he won’t eat it until he has finished his round of offerings. In a recent feature in The Times of India,Raghu notes:“I’m not doing anything great. I’m not on a mission to change the world. God has been very kind to me in my struggle to survive. Now it is my turn to repay the kindness by helping other needy human beings.”‎ ‎32.What thing made Raghu first have a dream of helping others?‎ A.Seeing some people showing kindness to others.‎ B.Learning of a family with arguments.‎ C.Losing his legs for a serious disease.‎ D.Seeing some people have less than him.‎ ‎33.We can learn from the passage that Raghu__________ .‎ A.delivered three meals one day B.delivered food only to the disabled C.ate food himself after delivering all the food ‎ D.delivered different food from what he ate ‎34.It can be inferred from what Raghu said that__________.‎ A.Raghu is not satisfied with society at present B.Raghu knows the meaning of repaying and appreciation ‎ C.Raghu wants to be a great person in the future D.Raghu sees himself as a hero to change the world ‎35.Which is the best title of the passage?‎ A.Love Fighter on a Tricycle B.A Disabled but Great Person C.Many People in Poverty D.The Tulsi Project 第二节:任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ It is well-known that there are two biggest wealth in life: your talent and your time.
