A One of the most famous buildings in the United States is Carnegie Hall, the home of classical and popular music concerts in New York.Carnegie Hall is known not just for its beauty and history, but also for its amazing sound.Carnegie Hall is named after Andrew Carnegie, who paid for its construction.Construction of Carnegie Hall began in 1890 and the official opening night was on May 5,1891. The hall was owned by the Carnegie family until 1924 when it was sold to Robert E.Simon.The building became very old and in 1960,the new owner made plans to destroy it and build an office block.Isaac Stem led a group of people who fought to save Carnegie Hall and finally, the city of New York bought it for $5 million. It was then fixed up between 1983 and 1995. Advertisements and stories in newspapers about how Carnegie Hall needed help to recover its history led people to send in old concert programmes and information from all over the world.Over 12,000 concert programmes were received and with these it was possible to make a proper record of Carnegie Hall's concert history. Carnegie Hall is actually made up of several different halls, but the Main Hall, now called the Isaac Stem Auditorium,is the most famous. The hall itself can hold an audience of 2,804 in five levels of seating. Because the best and most famous musicians of all time have played at Carnegie Hall,it is the dream of most musicians who want to be great to play there. This has led to a very old joke which is now part of Carnegie Hall's history.Question:“How do I get to Carnegie Hall?” Answer:“Practise, practise, practise.” 6 1.It can be inferred that people wanted to save Carnegie Hall mainly because . B.Because Carnegie Hall is a place where musicians practise a lot. C.Because it is difficult to find your way to Carnegie Hall. D.Because you don't expect the answer to repeat the same word three times. 4.Which of the following would be the best title for the text? A.The History of Carnegie Hall B.The Best Musician Having Played in Carnegie Hall C.A Joke about Carnegie Hall D.The Dream of Most Musicians A [标题归纳题。 B Three years ago when I was just a freshman in the high school, the busy spring season was coming quickly. When I was preparing to play the saxophone (萨克斯管) in my school's music group for the Music Year, players who prepared for the softball tryouts (选拔赛) were just around the corner. 6 It was only the second day of our training,a Tuesday. The players were hitting balls as training. The field of training was poorly set up.However, two lines were formed in both the right and the left field as the players hit the ball from the line towards the center field. And then the only thing that I could remember when I woke up was that I was hit by the ball. And I had lost my front tooth. As one could imagine,I was scared. With the Music Year only four days away,it was vexatious. I felt so disappointed on the way home and planned to give up for I didn't know whether I could play the saxophone well without my front tooth. Then I met my lovely neighbor,Kathy. She was a kind girl. After she knew what I was worrying, she encouraged me to go on my way to the Music Year. And she said I needed to go to the dentist and she would go along with me. After going to the dentist and getting my tooth fixed,I went home and went to bed after taking the medicine. The following days,I practised the saxophone with other members.I could also do well as before, and I expected I would perform well in the Music Year.By the way,Kathy was the one I needed to say two words for her encouragement. 5.According to the passage,we know that . A.moving B.interesting C.puzzling D.annoying D 根据第二段中的“And I had lost my front tooth. As one could imagine,I was scared. With the Music Year only four days away...” 7.Why did the author plan to give up taking part in the Music Year? Violent games cause reallife violence. The American Psychological Association did find a connection between violent video games and shortterm increases in aggression (好斗). 4 Frustration (挫败) or competition, rather than violent pictures, might be leading to the feelings of aggression, these researchers say. They're bigger than movies. It was reported that PacMan had made about U.S.$ 1.2 billion—three times as much as Star Wars.True, but that doesn't include how much is spent on DVDs or TV channels that show movies.Plus, when Grand Theft Auto V made U.S.$1 billion, only 20 million people bought the game. When The Force Awakens made U.S.$1 billion,100 million tickets were sold. 5 A.They're for men. B.People cannot stop playing them. C.Now,let's put an end to some of them. 6 D.But many scholars don't agree with these findings. E.So,movies are still more popular and come out ahead. F.They were too violent and taught children not to value life. G.Studies have found that “action games” improve handeye movement. 2.G [根据该空后一句中的these games can increase attention可知,G项中improve handeye movement与之相呼应,并共同构成下文中的these effects。] 3.A [根据该段中的tend to be marketed to men和40 percent of players are women以及more adult women players可知,该段主要介绍女性游戏玩家也不在少数。 后一句中的these researchers即指代D项中的many scholars。] Hershey Park is full of fantastic rides, shows and 1.
