Some people think that water ices and milk ices may have been made by the Chinese between three thousand and a thousand years ago. In that time, the dish reached India. The Indians, in turn, many have passed on the secret to the Arabs and Persians.‎ Marco Polo, an Italian who travelled widely in the thirteenth century, noted that he found the Chinese had long been making ices out of fruit juices and milk. From the fourteenth century on, ices became popular first in Venice and then throughout Italy.‎ In 1535, when Catherine de Medeicis left Italy to marry the future King Herry II of France, she took her cooks with her. They made desserts the French had never tasted before, which was ice cream.‎ At first ice cream was a luxury in France. Only rich people had the money to buy it. Then, in 1660, a young man from Sicily, Francisco Procopio, arrived in Paris. He opened a shop that sold ice cream at prices people could afford. Usually you don’t know who is phoning or how urgent their business is, so a ringing phone is difficult to ignore. In one experiment, a researcher wrote down the numbers of several public phones in stations ‎ and airports. Then he called the numbers. Someone nearly always answered. When he asked why, people usually said, “Because it rang.”‎ A few years ago in New Jersey, a man with a rifle killed 13 people. Armed police surrounded his house but he refused to come out. A reporter found out the phone number of the house and called. The man put down his rifle and answered the phone. “What do you want?” he said, “I’m really busy right now.”‎ Imagine you’re at work and the phone is ringing in someone else’s office. Do you answer it or not? In one survey on telephone use, 51% of participants told researches that they did. We can’t ignore the phone and for the reason, it forces its way into our lives. It interrupts what we are doing and on top of that, the caller is often someone we don’t really want to talk to. However, in the survey, 58% said they never took the phone off the hook, and 67% didn’t mind if someone called during a television programme. For 44% it wasn’t a problem if someone rang during a meal, while only 28% were annoyed or upset. If someone phoned in the middle of the night, 40% told researchers that they got nervous or frightened, while around 30% got angry.‎ Of course, when someone is really annoying, you can choose to hang up on him/her. This is in fact one of the rudest things you can do on the phone, but 79% said they were prepared to do it in some cases. Only 6% told researchers they never hung up on people.‎ ‎29. In the experiment, people answered the researcher’s phone ________.‎ A. in order to help him gather the data B. to test the function of the phone C. for fear that it was urgent D. to show their interest in the survey ‎30. The gunman answered the phone because ________.‎ A. he decided not to give up his resistance to the police B. he tended to answer a ringing phone C. he wanted to tell the reporter that he was too busy to offer any information D. he intended to be friendly with the media ‎31. What is implied by the sentence “79% said they were prepared to do it in some cases”?‎ A. They were prepared to punish those rude callers.‎ B. They also agreed to hang up on others regardless of rudeness.‎ C. They were annoying rude callers.‎ D. They were going to hang on annoying phones.‎ ‎32. The purpose of the survey is to find out _______.‎ A. how the phone interrupts people’s work B. what role the phone plays in people’s lives C. when the phone communication is more welcome D. why people mind a ringing phone sometimes D A team of engineers at Harvard University has been inspired by Nature to create the first robotic fly. The mechanical fly has become a platform for a series of new high-tech integrated systems. Designed to do what a fly does naturally, the tiny machine is the size of a fat housefly. Its mini wings allow it to stay in the air and perform controlled flight tasks.‎ ‎“It’s extremely important for us to think about this as a whole system and not just the sum of a bunch of individual components (元件),” said Robert Wood, the Harvard engineering professor who has been working on the robotic fly project for over a decade. A few years ago, his team started piecing together the components. “The added difficulty with a project like this is that actually none of those components are off the shelf and so we have to develop them all on our own,” he said.‎ They engineered a series of systems to start and drive the robotic fly. “The seemingly simple system which just moves the wings has a number of inter-dependencies on the individual components, each of which individually has to perform well, but then has to be matched well to everything it’s connected to,” said Wood. The flight device was built into a set of power, computation, sensing and control systems. Wood says the success of the project proves that the flying robot with these tiny components can be built and manufactured.‎ While this first robotic flyer is linked to a small, off-board power source, the goal is eventually to equip it with a built-in power source, so that it might someday perform data-gathering work at rescue sites, in farmers’ fields or on the battlefield. “Basically it is able to take off, land and fly around,” he said.‎ Wood says the design offers a new way to study flight mechanics and control at insect-scale. Yet, the power, sensing and computation technologies on board could have much broader applications. “You can start thinking about using them to answer open scientific questions, you know, to study biology in ways that would be difficult ‎ with the animals, but using these robots instead,” he said. “So there are a lot of technologies and open interesting scientific questions that are really what drives us on a day to day basis.”‎ ‎33. The difficulty the team of engineers met with while making the robotic fly was that __________.‎ A. they had no model in their mind B. they did not have adequate time C. they had no ready-made components D. they could not put the components together ‎34. It can be inferred from paragraphs 3 and 4 that the robotic fly __________.‎ A. consists of a flight device and a control system B. can just fly in limited areas at the present time C. can collect information from many sources D. has been put into wide application ‎35. Which of the following can be learned from the passage?‎ A. The robotic flyer is designed to learn about insects.‎ B. Animals are not allowed in biological experiments.‎ C. There used to be few ways to study how insects fly.‎ D. Wood’s design can replace animals in some experiments 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Tips to Fight Allergies (过敏症)‎ About one in five people suffer from some kind of allergy, according to a new survey. Seasonal allergies are the most common. While not as severe as food and insect allergies, they can interfere with daily life. Here are some tips to fight allergies.‎ ‎● _36_ At least you should wash fruits carefully. When possible, cook fruits and/or avoid eating fruit peels (皮). Symptoms of pollen-food (花粉食品) allergy syndrome typically occur when you eat fruit—including its peel—in its raw form. So by peeling or cooking fruit, you can lessen or completely avoid any reaction.‎ ‎● Keep your hair clean. _37_ Hair gels and pastes cause the hair to become a pollen magnet (磁铁).‎ ‎_38_ Going to bed swaddled in the pollen and mold(霉菌) that your clothing, skin, and hair picked up throughout the day may be the problem. If you can’t bathe at night, make sure you at least wash your face at night, giving your eye area some ‎ special attention.‎ ‎● Stay inside during and directly after thunderstorms and keep house windows shut. _39_ However, thunderstorms actually stir up pollen.‎ ‎● Bath your dog regularly and avoid allowing your pet to lay in bed with you. Just because that you aren’t allergic to your pet doesn’t mean that they won’t make you sneeze and sniffle. _40_‎ A. Wash fruits thoroughly.‎ B. If possible, bathe at night.‎ C. Pollen is the biggest cause of allergies.‎ D. Gentle drizzles (毛毛细雨) can decrease pollen counts.‎ E. Use as few hair products as possible or wash hair every day.‎ F. A long, cold winter has worsened seasonal allergies for many people.‎ G. After being outside, your dog can bring pollen, mold, and other allergens into your home.‎ 第二部分 英语知识运用(共二节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题, 每小题1.5分,共30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。‎ On June 17,2012, my daughter gave me a new wallet as a Father’s Day present.
