For the most part, Chinese people are friendly, easy-going and optimistic. They are curious and unusually patient and they are also the hardest-working people I have ever met. In China, family is everything. In my English classes when the students were asked what they would do if they only had a few hours to live, most students told me how they would spend their last few hours with their families and parents. Many times the subjects in the classes center on families and friends. I teach many students a year, talking to them freely. The cost of living here is very low compared with that of the US. The city of Xiang Fan I live in isn’t large and I live better. Non-imported(非出口的)foods are very cheap, so are clothing and articles of everyday use. The cost of public transportation is very low, too. Chinese value education. However, it is reported that many children can’t afford the expenses of schooling and are forced to leave school in some poor areas in China. But they organized Project Hope many years ago. It creates conditions for the poor children to go back to school. In my opinion, Project Hope is of great importance to the development of the rural education. When we read news of China in the west, rarely, if ever, will we see anything mentioned of the positive changes China has gone through. While it is true that economic miracles have not reached many areas of China, but we also have the same problems. When I am asked which country I consider better. China or the US, my answer has always been the same, “We are not worse or better than each other, we are only different. ” 24. How does the author find Chinese people? A. He thinks most Chinese people hardly work. B. He praises most Chinese people a lot. C. He thinks most Chinese people are proud. D. He dislikes most Chinese people. 25. What are NOT cheap in China in the author’s opinion? A. Imported foods. B. Local foods. C. Public transportation tickets. D. Clothes and shoes made in China. 26. We can infer from the passage that the author thinks______. A. the westerners have got to know China well B. China’s economic miracles have appeared everywhere C. the education in rural areas is never cared about in China D. the progress of China is seldom reported in the US 27. In the author’ eyes, ______. A. China is better than the US B. China is different from the US C. Americans are richer than Chinese D. China bears great similarities to the US C The earliest known copy of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa -- thought to have been painted at the same time as the original masterpiece -- has been discovered at the Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain. The work offers art-lovers an attractive clue to what the model for the world’s most famous painting really looked like. Controllers of the museum found the picture hidden beneath layers of paints during restoration work on a picture initially thought to have been a later replica(复制品) of the Mona Lisa. The restored version shows the same woman that Leonardo depicted (描画), against a landscape similar to that shown in the background of the original, which now hangs in the Louvre in Paris. And while the features of Leonardo’s Mona Lisa have been dulled by centuries of dirt and layers of cracked paints -- which are unlikely ever to be removed -- in the recently-rediscovered copy, she appears fresher-faced and younger than her better-known “twin”. News of the find was revealed at a meeting at London’s National Gallery, linked to its “Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan” exhibition. “This sensational (轰动的) find will transform our understanding of the world’s most famous picture,” the Art Newspaper reported, adding that the clues found on the Madrid version suggest that the original and the copy were begun at the same time and painted next to each other, as the work went on. Miguel Falomir, manager of Italian painting at the Prado, told reporters that expert analysis suggested a strong link between Leonardo and the artist who painted the copy. “The painting was done in the painter’s own workshop,” he said. “It is absolutely consistent with Leonardo’s work, but Leonardo didn’t actually do any work on it himself.” 28. Which of the following is TRUE about the new version of the Mona Lisa? A.It was a restored version by Leonardo. B. It was copied after the original version. C. It looks newer than the original one. D. It has been dulled by layers of cracked paints. 29. We can learn from the third paragraph that ________. A.the new version of the Mona Lisa went on display at a meeting. B.there would be two versions of the Mona Lisa at the exhibition. C.Leonardo was made to paint with another painter meanwhile. D.the new finding affects the understanding of the original version. 30. What can we infer from the text? A.The artist painted the copy in his home. B.The artist who painted the copy had close relation with Leonardo. C.The artist finished painting the copy under Leonardo’s guidance. D.The artist who painted the copy must have been Leonardo’s student. 31. What is the main idea of the text? A.The Prado Museum has discovered the earliest copy of the Mona Lisa. B.The Prado Museum restored the copy of the Mona Lisa. C.The Prado Museum displayed the copy of the Mona Lisa in Spain. D.The Prado Museum offers art-lovers a better understanding of Leonardo. D Your glasses may someday replace your smartphone, and some New Yorkers are ready for the switch. Some in the city can’t wait to try them on and use the maps and GPS that the futuristic eyewear is likely to include. “I’d use it if I were hanging out with friends at 3 a.m. and going to the bar and wanted to see what was open,”said Walter Choo, 40, of Fort Greene. The smartphone-like glasses will likely come out this year and cost between $250 and $600, the Times said, possibly including a variation of augmented (增强的) reality, a technology already available on smartphones and tablets (平板电脑) that overlays information onto the screen about one’s surroundings. So, for example, if you were walking down a street, indicators would pop up showing you the nearest coffee shop or directions could be plotted out and come into view right on the sidewalk in front of you. “As far as a mainstream consumer product, this just isn’t something anybody needs,”said Sam Biddle, who writes for Gizmodo.com. “We’re accustomed to having one thing in our pocket to do all these things,”he added,“and the average consumer isn’t gonna be able to afford another device (装置) that’s hundreds and hundreds of dollars.” 9to5Google publisher Seth Weintraub, who has been reporting on the smartphone-like glasses since late last year, said he is confident that this type of wearable device will eventually be as common as smartphones. “It’s just like smartphones 10 years ago,”Weintraub said.“A few people started getting emails on their phones, and people thought that was crazy. Same kind of thing. We see people bending their heads to look at their smartphones, and it’s unnatural,”he said.“There’s gonna be improvements to that, and this a step there.” 32.One of the possible functions of the smartphone-like glasses is to________. A. program the opening hours of a bar B. supply you with a picture of the future C. update the maps and GPS in your smartphones D. provide information about your surroundings 33.The underlined phrase“pop up”in the third paragraph probably means_________. I’d like to teach you Chinese and learn English from you. I think this can benefit both of us in learning the language. Personally, if you just want to know about the Chinese language, listen to some Chinese songs and watch some Chinese TV shows. At the beginning, you’d better find some books intended for Chinese kids or for foreigners. Then you can find some native speakers to help you. I’ve been teaching a foreign friend Chinese. M: I believe that there is no bigger chance to allow me to move up than this job, but it might be a little boring for me. W: Remember everything in the world has two sides. There is no exception to making a career change. M: Also, the matter of pay is a problem worrying me. W: I think the slight pay decrease might be worth it. The benefits are much better. M: Yes, sometimes giving up a little to move forward is the best choice. W: I think you should definitely apply for the position.
