After all, I was a teenage girl, and I couldn’t bear people to look at me and think I was not like them. I must have been a terrible danger on the roads. Coming across me wandering through the traffic, motorists probably would have to stop rapidly on their brakes. Apart from that, there were all sorts of disasters that used to occur on the way to and from work.‎ One evening, I got off the bus about half way home where I had to change buses, and as usual I ran into something. “I’m awfully sorry,” I said and stepped forward only to run into it again. When it happened a third time, I realized I had been apologizing to a lamppost. This was just one of the stupid things that constantly happened to me. So I carried on and found the bus stop, which was a request stop, where the bus wouldn’t stop unless passengers wanted to get on or off. No one else was there and I had to guess if the bus had arrived.‎ Generally in this situation, because I hated showing I was blind by asking for help, I tried to guess at the sound. Sometimes I would stop a big lorry and stand there feeling stupid as it drew away. In the end, I usually managed to swallow my pride and ask someone at the stop for help.‎ But at this particular evening no one joined me at the stop; it seemed that everyone had suddenly decided not to travel by bus. Of course I heard plenty of buses pass, or I thought I did. But because I had given up stopping them for fear of making a fool of myself, I let them all go by. I ‎ stood there alone for half an hour without stopping one. Then I gave up. I decided to walk on to the next stop.‎ ‎24. After the girl got off the bus that evening, she_________.‎ A. hit a person as usual B. began to walk home C. hit a lamppost by accident D. was caught by something ‎ ‎26. What was the problem with guessing at the sound to stop a bus?‎ A. Other vehicles also stopped there.‎ B. It was unreliable for making judgments ‎ C. More lorries than buses responded to the girl.‎ D. It took too much time for the girl to catch the bus.‎ ‎27. Finally the girl decided to walk to the next stop, hoping__________.‎ A. to find people there B. to find more buses there C. to find the bus by herself there D. to find people more helpful there C When Jeff Sparkman draws his cartoon superheroes with colored pencils, he often has to ask other people to tell him what color his masked men turned out to be because he's color-blind. Now, a new smart phone application (app) can help him figure out what colors he's using and how the picture looks to most everyone else. ‎ The DanKam app, available for iPhone and Android for $2.99, is an application that turns the vague colors that one percent of the population with color-blindness sees into the "true" colors as everyone else sees them. In America, an estimated 32 million color-blind Americans---95% are males---can soon have their life improved.‎ ‎"DanKam takes the stream of data coming in through the phone's camera and changes the colors slightly so they fall within the range that people who are color-blind see," developer Dan Kaminsky told CNET. He came up with the idea after watching the 2009 film Star Trek with a ‎ color-blind friend. ‎ It was then that he got to know more about colorblindness like its varying types and degrees. A vast majority, for instance, have trouble seeing red or green due to a genetic defect(遗传缺陷). Blue-yellow colorblindness, however, is rarer and develops later in life because of aging, illness or head injuries, etc. He started experimenting with one of the most common representations of points in the RGB color model. What the DanKam app attempts to do is to clean up the color space of the image or video signal so that colors can be visible to those suffering from viewing problems. “You can adjust the app to fit your needs. There is a range and not everyone who is color-blind sees things the same.” Says Kaminsky.‎ Sparkman, a copy editor at CNET, tried out the app and was pleased with the results. "It would be useful for dressing for a job interview," he said. But using it for his art is “the most practical application." It worked well on LED and other lights on electronic gadgets, which means Sparkman can now identify the power light on his computer display as green. ‎ ‎28. According to the first two paragraphs, we can know that DanKam ___________. ‎ A. is designed to help people with colorblindness ‎ B. is a phone used to help drawing pictures ‎ C. can turn vague colors into real ones D. appeared in the movie Star Trek ‎ ‎29. How does DanKam’s app work? ‎ ‎ A. It puts LED and other lights on electronic gadgets.‎ ‎ B. It changes the colors so that color-blind people can see them.‎ ‎ C. It checks color-blind people’s types of degrees of colorblindness. ‎ ‎ D. It shows common representations of points in the RGB color model ‎ ‎30. It can be inferred from the passage that colorblindness __________. ‎ ‎ A. cannot be cured by any methods B. is more commonly seen in women ‎ C. is not necessarily inborn disease D. makes people unable to tell any colors ‎ ‎31. The underlined word "visible" in Paragraph 4 is closest in meaning to _________. ‎ A. comfortable B. recognizable C. adjustable D. enjoyable ‎ D Shopping in the United States changes a lot. About ninety years ago most people shopped in small stores that were owned by one person or a family. Women went from the bakery to the butcher's to the grocer and on to the fruit and vegetable seller in order to get their food for the week.‎ Then about sixty years ago, supermarkets were born. In a supermarket, people could get all the different kinds of food they needed without going to different stores.‎ The next big change in shopping in the United States was the shopping mall. A shopping mall is a group of stores under one roof. Because malls allowed people to shop without worrying about the weather, they soon became very popular. The mall became a place for people to socialize in addition to shopping. If you walk through a mall, you will see older people sitting, chatting and drinking coffee. Malls are places for teenagers to hang out. Many teens will often just "go to the mall" and spend time with their friends.‎ The recent change in American shopping was the superstore. Large chain stores such as Wal-Mart, Office Depot and Toys "R" Us have been built all across the United States. Because they are so large, they can buy goods at a great discount and sell them much cheaper than smaller stores.‎ Sometimes, when they are built near small towns, many of the small town stores have to close. They just cannot compete with their giant neighbors.‎ And now, online shopping is becoming more and more popular all over the States. People are too busy to go to the physical stores, so they go shopping over the Internet. Online shopping has lots of advantages. For instance, online stores are usually available 24 hours a day. Searching or browsing online shops can be faster than browsing the physical stores. While, online shopping also has its disadvantages. People are at higher risk of being cheated on the part of the merchant than in a physical store. And privacy of personal information may be let out.‎ ‎32. Which of the following shows the right order of shopping development in the United States? ‎ ‎①small stores ②superstores ③shopping malls ④shopping online ⑤supermarkets A. ①②③④⑤ B. ①⑤②③④ C. ②③④①⑤ D. ①⑤③②④‎ ‎33. Which is the place for people to spend time with others according to the passage?‎ ‎ A. Shopping malls. B. Small stores. C. Supermarkets. D. Superstores.‎ ‎34. Why can the superstores sell products at much lower prices?‎ A. Because they are built near small towns.‎ ‎ B. Because they are across the United States.‎ ‎ C. Because they can buy goods at a reduction in the price.‎ ‎ D. Because they sell all kinds of products people need.‎ ‎35. What's the disadvantage of online shopping according to the passage?‎ A. Wasting time. B. Leaking personal information.‎ ‎ C. Fixed prices. D. No chance to do physical activities 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ We all know that reading to our children is important. Scientists have studied earthquakes and made maps that show the “earthquake belts”. ⑳In areas in these belts, it’s possible for earthquakes to happen. In these areas we should build strong houses to fight against earthquakes.‎ In the future, scientists will be able to tell when and where an earthquake will be before they happen.‎
