A The last thing Caitlin Hipp would have expected as she prepared to turn 28 years old was to be living at home with her parents. All she’s ever wanted to do is to become an elementary school teacher. However, Hipp has racked up(累计) $100,000 (about 0.67 million yuan) in student loan debt and isn’t able to earn enough through working as a part-time skating instructor and restaurant server to live anywhere other than home.‎ To some degree, multigenerational households have always been a part of American life. However, the number of adults who have been moving back in with their parents or never leaving home in the first place has been growing steadily.‎ The Pew Research Center recently reported that 2016 was a milestone in the evolving living arrangements of young adults in the US. Until 2016, the most common living arrangement for young adults was to be living in their own property as part of a couple. UBS Financial Services, a Swiss global financial services company, released a report that even suggests one reason for the growing number of young adults still living at home could be that their family doesn’t want them to leave. The report shows that 74 percent of millennials(千禧一代) get some kind of financial support from their parents after college. Millennials see their parents as peers, friends and mentors(导师). In return, their parents happily provide financial support well into adulthood, helping fund everything for them. Stuart Hoffman, chief economist for the PNC Financial Group in the US, said “Although job growth for millennials since 2014 has improved, that doesn’t necessarily mean that millennials are starting to fly the nest, he said. “They may like living at home and being able to save money.”‎ He added, “While it has held back household formation and purchases on things, they are probably traveling more and eating out more. I don’t know if it represents a change in moral values, it’s much more common for adult children to live in their parent’s homes because it’s becoming part of the culture.”‎ ‎1.What’s the purpose of Caitlin Hipp’s story?‎ 8‎ A. in with their parents or never leaving home in the first place has been growing steadily.” 根据最后一段中的“it’s much more common for adult 主旨大意题。通过阅读第一段以及每一段的主题句可知此文主要介绍如何在团队合作中提高工作效率,所以B项正确。‎ C When was the last time you did something really fun with one of your parents—just the two of you?‎ Parents who take their young children to music, swimming and art classes often stop arranging such activities once their kids are older and in school all day.But it doesn’t have to be that way.Doing something enjoyable with your kids just might make you look at each other in a whole new way, especially if you do it through a class or an event. When parent and child become students together,it puts them on the same level,at least for a while.‎ ‎“I really like parents to come to class with their kids—they start sharing things and talking about what they’re doing and what they like,” said art teacher Pyper Dixon.‎ However, finding something new in common is a big choice for them, especially when kids get involved in sports and other afterschool activities. But it’s possible to learn a new skill or hobby together.‎ That’s certainly true of Lauren,11,from Silver Spring, who is in Dixon’s class with her father,Dennis.“I was just going to drop her off,” Dennis said,“but Dixon persuaded me to stay.”‎ Now Lauren gets to nag her father about doing his art homework.“He always leaves it to the last minute,” she said.“But then he’ll turn around to do amazing drawings,” she added.“We have different styles of drawing,so it’s interesting to talk it over with him.”‎ Without the Saturday morning art class,Dennis said,he would be reading the paper, and Lauren would be on her own in her room or on the computer. But they talk more now.“I can’t think of an experience where you communicate with your kid so closely,” he said.‎ ‎1.The author raises the question at the beginning to________.‎ A.expect an answer B.criticize some parents C.introduce the topic D.support his argument ‎2.What does Dixon think is the benefit of parent and child studying art together?‎ A.They will become equal.‎ 8‎ B.They will communicate more.‎ C.The child will learn art much better.‎ D.The parent will learn something new.‎ ‎3.The underlined word “nag” in the text probably means________.‎ A.urge B.help C.ignore D.teach ‎4.We can learn from the text that________.‎ A.Lauren used to talk a lot with her father B.Dennis enjoys studying art with Lauren C.Lauren dislikes her father’s drawings D.Dennis likes playing computer games meet them every day.A few days ago,my car was not running well.I pulled it into a garage and the young mechanic had it fixed in just a few minutes. He knew what was wrong by simply listening to the engine.I was amazed. The sad truth is,great talent is not enough.‎ 8‎ I am constantly shocked at how little talented people earn.I heard the other day that less than 5 percent of Americans earn more than $‎100,000 a year.A business consultant who specializes in the medical trade was telling me how many doctors and dentists struggle financially. It was this business consultant who gave me the phrase,“They are one skill away from great wealth.”‎ There is an old saying that goes,“Job means ‘just over broke(破产)’”.And unfortunately,I would say that the saying applies to millions of people.Because school does not think financial intelligence is intelligence, most workers “live within their means”.They work and they pay the bills.Instead I recommend to young people to seek work for what they will learn, more than what they will earn. ‎ When I ask the classes I teach,“How many of you can cook a better hamburger than McDonald’s?” almost all the students raise their hands.I then ask,“So if most of you can cook a better hamburger, how come McDonald’s makes more money than you?”The answer is obvious:McDonald’s is excellent at business systems. The reason that so many talented people are poor is because they focus on building a better hamburger and know little or nothing about business systems. The world is filled with talented poor people. They focus on perfecting their skills at building a better hamburger rather than the skills of selling and delivering the hamburger.‎ ‎1.The author mentions the mechanic in the first paragraph to show that . ‎ A.he has a sharp sense of hearing B.he is ready to help others C.he is just one of the talented people D.he knows little about car repairing ‎2.The underlined part in the third paragraph can be best replaced by “ ”. ‎ A.spend more than they can afford B.do in their own way C.live in their own circle D.live within what they earn ‎3.Why do talented people earn so little according to the author?‎ A.They lack financial intelligence.‎ 8‎ B.They don’t work hard enough.‎ C.They don’t make full use of their talents.‎ D.They have no specialized skills.‎ ‎4.The main purpose of the author is to tell us . ‎ A.how young people can find a satisfactory job B.what schools should teach students C.how McDonald’s makes so much money D.why so many talented people are poor ‎1.C 推理判断题。根据文章前两句“The world is filled with smart, talented, educated and gifted people. We meet them every day.”可知,第一段举的例子是为了证明第一句话。所以这位技工是作者遇到的有才能的人之一。故选C项。‎ ‎2.D 句意猜测题。根据文章第三段第一句话“工作意味着仅比破产高一点”以及此段中的“They work and they pay the bills.”可知,画线句子表达的意思是用自己赚的钱维持生计。‎ ‎3.A 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段中的“The reason that so many talented people are poor is because they focus on building a better hamburger and know little or nothing about business systems.”可知,有才能的人仍然很穷的原因是他们没有考虑商业体系,也就是他们缺乏理财方面的知识或智慧。‎ ‎4.D 推理判断题。通读整篇文章,根据文章第一段最后一句以及最后一段的陈述可知,作者的写作意图是为了告诉我们为什么那么多有才能的人都很穷。‎ E 8‎
