But it was not a valuable book, and a poor man got it.‎ The book wasn't very interesting, but between its pages there was something very interesting indeed. It was a thin strip of vellum(羊皮纸) on which was written the secret of the “Touchstone”. The touchstone was a small pebble(鹅卵石) that could turn any common metal into pure gold.‎ The writing explained that it was lying among thousands and thousands of other pebbles that looked exactly like it. But the secret was this: The real stone would feel warm, while ordinary pebbles are cold.‎ So the man sold his house, bought a tent, camped on the seashore, and began testing pebbles. He knew that if he picked up normal pebbles and threw them down again because they were cold, he might pick up the same pebbles hundreds of times. So, when he felt one that was cold, he threw it into the sea. He spent a whole day doing this but none of them was the touchstone. Yet he went on and on this way. Pick up a pebble. Cold—throw it into the sea. Pick up another. Throw it into the sea. The days stretched into months and the months into years.‎ One day, however, about midafternoon, he picked up a pebble and it was warm. He threw it into the sea before he realized what he had done. He was used to throwing each pebble into the sea as soon as he picked it up. So when the one he wanted came along, he still threw it away.‎ So it is with opportunity(机会). Unless we are vigilant, it's easy to fail to realize an opportunity when it is in hand and it's just as easy to throw it away. ‎ ‎1.According to the passage, the touchstone is a stone . ( )‎ A.Opportunity knocks but once.‎ B.Use it or lose it.‎ C.Where there is a will, there is a way.‎ D.Practice makes perfect.‎ Ⅲ.任务型阅读 ‎ 阅读短文,并按要求完成1~5题。‎ Studying is important to students. But it is always difficult to find enough time to study every subject you need. So a good plan helps you to make sure of your success in study.‎ ‎ Then, how to make a study plan? Well, you can begin with listing all the subjects you need to study and make sure what you need to do for each subject. Next, you should decide how much time you should spend on different subjects. In this way, you have a plan you can remember easily. While arranging(安排)time for each subject, you also need to make sure that you still have time for family, friends and rest. This is because you won't be able to succeed in your studies unless you balance your personal life and your study. ‎ ‎ Follow your plan. One of the biggest challenges in following your study plan is that you will be tempted(诱惑) to avoid it and do something relaxing, or fun instead. Luckily, you can fight this temptation by taking breaks. But be sure not to take extra breaks or too long breaks as it can affect your plan. Also, you need to use your break wisely. For example, go for a short walk, eat a small snack, or listen to some music.‎ ‎ To avoid forgetting to follow your plan, try to get into the habit of looking at your calendar every day. Sometimes our plans are hard to follow because some important people in our lives distract(使分心) us from our goals. In order to avoid this, tell people in your life about your plan. ‎ 6‎ Put up a copy of your study guide at home so you and your family can see it, and e-mail a copy to your friends so they know when you have spare time.‎ ‎ 1题完成句子;2、3题简略回答问题;4题找出并写下全文的主题句;5题将文中画线句子译成汉语。‎ ‎1.You can fight all kinds of temptation by . ‎ ‎2.What should you do while arranging time for each subject?‎ ‎   ‎ ‎3.Why are sometimes our plans hard to follow?‎ ‎   ‎ ‎4.   ‎ ‎5.   ‎ Ⅳ.词语运用 ‎ 根据短文内容及所给提示,在文中的横线上填写一个正确的单词。‎ The topic of this program is environmental protection.
