A:What else do they 8.　　　　　?  B:Oh,my mother likes soap 9.　　　　　,but my father can’t 10.　　　　　 them.He loves World News.  think　 don’t　 it　 too　 think　 of　 about　 like　 operas　 stand Because I hope to find out what’s going on around the world. 因为我希望弄清楚全球正在发生的事情。 剖析 (1)hope在句中是动词,意为“希望”。hope to do sth.意为“希 望做某事”。如: I hope to go to Central Park again. 我希望再次去中央公园。 拓展 hope也可以用作名词,意为“希望”。如: Don’t give up hope.不要放弃希望。 辨析 hope与wish 两者均可用作动词,但具体用法不同: ①hope后面可接不定式或 that从句,但不能接“宾语+不定式”。 如: I hope (that) you can help me with my English. 我希望你能帮助我学英语。 (不能说:I hope you to help me with my English.) ②在简略句中,如要表示希望某事不会发生时,应说 I hope not, 而通常不说I don’t hope so。表示希望某事会发生时,说 I hope so。 ③wish后面接不定式或“宾语+不定式”都可以,其意义相当于“想 要”“希望”(=would like或 want)。wish接that从句时一般表示某种 强烈而又难以实现的“愿望”,而hope表示的是可以实现或能达到的 “希望”。如: I wish to get the ticket at once.我想马上得到票。 I wish you to get a good job. 我希望你能够得到一份好工作。 I wish I could fly like a bird. 但愿我能像鸟儿一样飞。 温馨提示:此句中的could表示fly这一动作是不可能实现的,是一 种虚拟语气,故不能用can。 ④wish还可表示良好的“祝愿”,后面接“宾语+宾语补足语(形容词 或名词)”。如: I wish you a pleasant journey.我祝你旅途愉快。 (2)find out意为“查明,弄清”。如: You have to find out who broke the door. 你必须查明谁弄坏了门。 辨析 find out,find与look for 三者都有“寻找”之意,但其含义和用法却不同: ①find out意为“查明,弄清”,指通过调查、询问、打听、研究等 一番努力或曲折之后才搞清楚、弄明白。如: Please find out when the plane takes off. 请查一下飞机什么时间起飞。 ②find意为“找到,发现”,通常指找到或发现具体的东西,也可指偶 然发现某物或某种情况,强调的是找的结果。如: Where did you find my key? 你在哪儿找到我的钥匙的? ③look for意为“寻找”,是有目的地找,强调“寻找”这一动作。如: I can’t find my pen.I’m looking for it everywhere. 我找不到我的钢笔了,我正到处寻找。
