‎¡¡¡¡Book Report of Black Beauty ‎¡¡¡¡Black Beauty was the only book written by Anna Sewell. Anna Sewell was born in Norfolk in 1820. She wrote this book out of anger about human¡¯s cruel treatment to animal. Anna spent 6 years to write this book when she was sick seriously. Black Beauty waked up the consciousness of ‎¡¡¡¡generations after generations to understand the animals. Anna was disabled and unable to walk when she was young, she by nature had sympathy on the poor animals.‎ ‎¡¡¡¡Anna started the story by Black Beauty describing his memory about his happy childhood, when he was taken care of by his mother and taught to be a good horse. At the age of 2, Black Beauty witnessed an accident, which caused the rider falling from the horse and dying. Later, the horse was killed. And at age of 4, Black Beauty was strong enough to work. Then he was sent to Birtwick Park. It became his first pleasant home for 3 years. He also met many friends with ‎¡¡¡¡different characteristics and experiences. One of his friends was Ginger, who was bad-tempered because of a hard life before. As a result, Ginger always got wild and bit others. Oliver got a shortened tail because his previous owner thought it was fashionable. Black Beauty, who was changed his name for several times during different periods of lifetime, is a handsome horse with a life of both happiness and suffering. He has been well trained. But life let him down and he once was tired of behaving well. He was sold from one owner to another. He began to realize how tragic his fate was. He came across different kinds of owner. Among them, some treated him kindly but some treated him badly. As time went by, Black Beauty was old and weak. He was no longer that strong and handsome horse. He was treated worse by his owner. However, he met Joe Green. From then on, Black Beauty began a happy life at his last home.‎ ‎¡¡¡¡After reading this book, one may admire Black Beauty¡¯s strong will, persistence and loyalty. Or one may feel sympathetic on his ‎ miserable experiences or feel delighted on his happy ending. However, Anna didn¡¯t focus on showing the horse¡¯s great characteristics. By telling the horse¡¯s whole life story, she aimed at revealing the hard life of animals at that time and altering the situation which human abuse animals and treated them cruelly just for beauty. At that time, animals were not protected. Humans ran after the so-called fashion blindly. In order to satisfy their own vanity, they ignored the pain of animals. Some people knew nothing about how to keep animals and make them working all day long. They abused animals to make as much money as possible until the animals died.‎ ‎¡¡¡¡What Anna realized years before, many people didn¡¯t realize it at all. On the road, we can see many abandoned cats and dogs. It has been very common. Although some organizations aiming at protecting animals have been set up, the phenomenon of abandoning animals or abusing them cannot be prevented.‎
